It was rainy. The dreary day had not yet even begun and yet a devastating tragedy had struck the small village. The darkened sun rose to greet the even darker moon. Neither paused for even a second to meet, they merely trudged onward. The birds, hidden far in the outskirts of the woods, were singing a sad melody, it seemed as though they even knew something was amiss. The elderly priestess walked the blood covered grounds, in search of any survivors.
Sango and Miroku had been immediately sent to the hut for emergency care. Shippoe and Kilala soared in the blood colored skies seeking for any survivors not visible from ground level. Kagome sat in a pool of blood, hovering over the body in front of her. All was silent until the forest held its breath for a blood curdling, pained scream.

“NO, INUYASHAAAA!!!!!!...NOOOOO” she cried as she cradled his head in her cut arms.

His long, once, silvery hair was now drenched in blood. His eyes were wrenched shut, hiding his beautiful golden orbs from the rest of the world. There was not a section of his body that was broken and bloody. She clung to his limp, lifeless body and sobbed.Keada walked over to the sobbing girl, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

“Calm ye self child, sobbing shan’t bring InuYasha back. Ye must carry onward” the elder priestess stated
“I can’t ... I won’t ... I refuse to leave him” she sobbed harder.
“Kagome, I know it hurts to watch the one ye love suffer so greatly but for his sake, ye must go on.” She said more firmly

Kagome sobbed a moment longer before realizing there maybe a second chance.

“Keada what happened to the jewel?”
“Destroyed, along with Naraku, I'm sorry child” Keada said patting the sobbing girl on the shoulder trying to calm her. Kagome stayed there crying, Keada said she must leave to aid the other villagers, Kagome nodded and stayed. She clutched him tightly, praying for this to be a dream or some sort of cruel prank. Fate was against her and it was not.

“INUYASHAAAAA.... PLEASE WAKE UP.....PLEASE.... INUYASHAAAAA!!!!!” She cried.

Shippoe and Kilala landed on the ground next to the sobbing form.

“Kagome...” Shippoe said carefully not to scare her.
She looked so fragile, he was afraid for her.
“Kagome, it’ll be ok. Kagome please...come to the hut, we’ll get you cleaned up and then we can...well ...burry InuYasha”
“I won’t leave him” she said calmly
“Kagome please “Shippoe said once more.
“No” she said a little stronger.
“Kagome you need to rest. That was a vicious fight. In the morning I promise everything will...”
“I WONT LEAVE HIM!!!” She screamed louder.

The usually Shippoe would have left the first time, but over the past two years, he was forced to grow up. He was taller and more mature. He looked to Kagome, more the ever, as a mother, he saw the hardships she went through. Like last year, her mother died, forcing her to take care of Souta until gramps got home. Then Souta turned twelve and told Kagome he could take care of the shrine and himself so she could go back to the warring states. Then a few months later her gramps died, leaving Souta to take care of himself. Kagome struggled through allot but she never allowed the others to see. Shippoe looked up to her for strength.

“Kagome please, I wont leave you either.” He said firmly sitting himself next to her.
“Shippoe you don’t have to, you need to go and rest.”
“So do you and I refuse to leave with out my mom” he said gaining a smile from the depressed girl
“Thank you.”

They sat there, Kagome holding InuYasha and crying, and Shippoe trying to console her.
Miroku walked out of the hut.
“Kagome, go inside” he said forcefully. He had heard the fight between the two.
“I refuse to leave him” she said as forcefully.
Miroku wasn’t one to argue, or use force when not necessary, but this time it was needed.
He grasped her arms and yanked her up.
“Come with me, Kagome” he snapped pulling her along.
“NOOOO I WONT LEAVE “She screamed
“Sorry Kagome but this for your own good and it isn’t the time to argue with me”
“Miroku.” She said shocked that he was angry.

Kagome reluctantly walked into the hut. She changed out of her torn clothing and Keada cleaned her wounds, afterward allowing her to re-dress and leave.

She left the small hut and walked to the Goshinbuku the place of InuYasha’s burial. The trees were an eerie still; nothing was heard for miles around. It was odd, but she didn’t care. She sat down next to the grave and sobbed. The rain poured down on her like bullets. She ignored the stinging pain and the cold wind.
‘Wind, wait that meant...’ she was struck out of thoughts
“Kagome, there you are.....what’s wrong?” a voice called to her
‘Yes, of course, it’s only like him to show up at the wrong time’ she continued with her thought
She looked up into his icy blue eyes.
“Kouga not now, I need to be alone” she cried harder.
She shunned him, so he left her. She sat there for hours. The rain finally let up and she decided to leave. She walked away; her head faced the ground, refusing to look at all the happy people around her. She once again reached the small village. Sango ran out hugging her tightly.

“Kagome, I'm so glad to see you’re ok”
“You too Sango, how’s the others?”
“There well” she said letting her out of the death grip.
“It’s getting late, we need to rest, and tomorrow will be busy”
“Yea cleaning an entire village won’t be easy” Kagome sighed

They walked back to the hut. It was dark out by this time. The birds had stopped singing; now all that could be heard was the chirping of crickets. Kagome laid out her lavender sleeping bag down on the floor of the hut and sat down on it.

“Kagome you need to get some sleep.” Sango said motioning to her to sleep.
“I can’t, I keep seeing his face” she cried
“Here ...I saved this for you” she said.
“InuYasha’s Hamaka” she whispered holding the red shirt.
“I knew you would want it, so I saved it for you” she smiled
“Arigotu Sango” she said hugging her dear friend.

Kagome put on the red Hamaka and snuggled into her sleeping bag. She closed her eyes and drifted into a deep sleep.
All she could see was his face, smiling down on her.

I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on>

The next morning she awoke to hear the singing of the birds on her windowsill. They were singing a more happy song; it was somewhat melancholy in a way. She yawned and folded her bag. She stood up and walked out of the small hut.

“Morning Kagome”
“Hey, good morning.” She replied

Sango and Miroku had already cleaned up the entire village on their own. The temples and huts had been rebuilt somewhat, the blood and been cleansed from the ground and the bodies had been laid to rest. Tears formed in Kagome’s eyes. She would miss this village but she needed to return home, to her era. She could no longer stay here if her love was dead. Her friends would learn to live with out her, I mean they had each other and would be happy. They could raise Shippoe and he would be happy.

“I have to leave” she sighed.
“When will you return?” Sango asked hopefully.
There was a long pause before she whispered. “Never”
Sango teared slightly and ran over to her friend.
“But why?”
“I can’t stay. I don’t belong.”
“It’s because InuYasha died?”
“Yes” she sighed and continued “I’m sorry Sango but you know I can’t continue to live her and pretend I don’t care, pretend I'm happy, I'm not and it’s not because of you...it’s ...”
“I know .... The memories left behind.”
“I understand, it’s the best, we’ll miss you” Sango cried, hugging her best friend.
“I’ll miss you too, I’ll never forget you guys” she said hugging her friends and then heading on her way.

She was heading towards the bone eaters well, the devastating portal that crossed the two era’s. Over the two years she had been there, the well had brought her more pain then ever, yet then again, it had brought her so much happiness as well. She was deep in her thoughts, well until she felt someone watching her. She ran slightly and then faster. She only stopped when she saw what looked like InuYasha. She walked up to the figure. She slowly stretched out her arm and held her hand up to touch the apparition’s face, only to have it disappear when she got to close. She stayed that way for a short while. Tears formed in her eyes and slowly slid down her cheek.
‘I miss you, Koi.’ She cried silently as she ran the rest of the way to the well.

And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on>

She reached the well and slowly looked over it. She sat on the edge of it, contemplating what she was about to do. She tossed her yellow book bag over the edge and then dove in, herself. She reached the 500 year limit to her time. Light shot through the cracked doors of the Higurashi Shrine. She climbed up the rickety ladder to the top of the well. The breeze was blowing slightly and the school bell was ringing off somewhere in the background. She opened the cracked door and walked out. Her little brother was kicking the soccer ball outside in the yard.

“Hey, Kagome, where’s InuYasha?” he said unknowingly of what happened
“He’s... Souta he’s dead” she said as fast as she could. Tears slipped out again as she fell to the hard concrete.
“KAGOME” he screamed running over to aid his sister.
He helped her up, well to her knees.
“Kagome what happened?” he asked worriedly
“There was a battle...Naraku caught us off guard...it was the middle of the night... “She managed between tears
“Yes and go on” he persuaded
“InuYasha and I had returned after finding the final shard... Naraku knew... he snuck up on us and attacked. After fighting for three hours ....he....he ....HE KILLED INUYASHA” she spat out in tears.
Souta sat there in shock. He couldn’t say a single word.
After a few moments she stood up and they walked into the house.

Kagome walked straight to her room after entering.
She rummaged through her drawers and found a few select pictures of her and InuYasha.
She lay on the bed facing the ceiling. She held the picture in her palm, smashing it against her heart and she sobbed. Tears soaked her pillow as they ran off her cheeks.
“WHY.....INUYASHAAAAAA!!!!!!” she screamed to the heavens.
She fell to her side and scrunched her knees to her chest as tight as she could, hoping to relieve her pain. He pillow was now completely drenched from her constant crying.

Almost two years later and the pain had not gotten any better. She still lay in her room on her bed and cried. Her brother had tried to force her to eat but it didn’t work, her weight dropped thirty pounds with in the first two weeks, so he checked her into a hospital for three weeks. Her weight then regained a healthy level but soon dropped when she was home. Still she stayed in her room and sobbed. Her nightstand held every picture she had ever taken of them, even the crappy ones.
Each day she held one and cried as she wore his Hamaka Yet she still sobbed every night it was her only means of getting to sleep.

She lay on her bed again, right before going to bed. She felt a cool breeze go through her window. She figured she had left it opened but it wasn’t. Se crawled back in bed with an eerie calm. She lay her head on her pillow and felt a cool hand on her forehead. It pushed away her bangs and kissed her cheek and whispered ‘I love you, I’m always with you’. She swore she saw a pair of golden eyes staring at her before she fell asleep. “I love you too” she whispered knowing it was him.

And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we’re gone

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we’ll always go on>

Eight more years later and Kagome was now twenty-eight. She was top lawyer in Tokyo, Japan and yet she wasn’t happy. The only friends that had been alive when InuYasha died were already dead and had been dead for well near five centuries. Her friends in this era weren’t as good of friends but they would do for the time being. Yuka had been had went on to a college for interior design and Erie had gone on to be a writer. Yuka, Erie and Kagome had been friends since she could remember, but she never allowed them to know the secret of the bone eaters well, all she told them was that there was a boy she fell in love with and he died in an accident, never specifying who or how.

“Hey Kagome, how’s it goin?” Yuka yelled in the distance.
“Oh hey there Yuka... umm it’s goin I guess” she sighed,
There was a silent pause before Yuka began digging around in her purse.
She handed Kagome a slip of pink paper, Kagome studied the parchment for a second.
“Right uh there’s this party my boss is throwing, Erie’s coming so I thought you’d wanna come, it could be like a reunion ya know?” she said gesturing for her to come.
Kagome was silent for a moment, and then nodded
“Yea, sure ...sounds fun.”
“Great! Its in three weeks at the Comet Complex out side Nagoya.”
“Ok, I’ll see ya then”
“Ok bye” she said waving off as she left.

Kagome unlocked the door to the shrine; she had inherited it from her mother a few years back.
She removed her shoes and stepped into the kitchen.
“SOUTA WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR DINNER?” she screamed at the top of her lungs.
There was no answer from upstairs.
“SOUTA WHAT DO YOU .....? Oh never mind” she mumbled walking up the winding stairwell.
She walked down the hallway and turned right at the third door on the left.
The door was adorned with the typical pictures of famous athletes and rock stars.
She knocked on the door then shoved it opened.
“Souta what do you want to eat?” she asked
“Uhh whatever’s fine””Ohh gee thanks you’re a lot of help” she snapped sarcastically
She stumbled back down stairs and to the phone.
She dialed the local pizza place and ordered.
“Ok miss it’ll be there in half and hour.” The lady told her.

An hour later and the door bell rang.
“You’re late” she snapped irritably as she opened the door to see a pair of golden eyes.
A memory flashed in the back of her head of InuYasha, in his red robe of the fire rat, on his knees crying out “WAIT ...I LOVE YOU... Kagome...!” in the pouring rain as she left. Then she snapped back
“Miss...” the pizza man said getting her attention.
“Oh...gomosen um how much was it again?” she blushed
“$17”
“Oh...ok” she said handing him the money plus a tip.
She closed the door and lingered there for a moment.

‘InuYasha’ she thought as she laid the pizza on the table. She sat on the couch and called Souta down to eat as she gathered her thoughts. ‘InuYasha I miss you...why did you have to go?’ she thought beginning to cry.

< Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on>

She found herself lying on her bed scrunched over as she had in the past. She lay on her hip and her knees were scrunched to her sides as she poured her heart out in tears.
“INUYASHAAA” her mind screamed his name as she sobbed.

Kagome stayed cooped up in her room like this for the majority of the three week time period.
Erie and Yuka had tried to call her several times but she never picked up the phone.
The day before the party, Yuka had come over to get her out of bed and take her shopping for the perfect dress, which they found in the first store they went to.
The dress was a black silk-like fabric that swayed at the ends, the top was low v-neck cut and outlined in lavender lace and the same color but in silk underneath the neck for a sort of undershirt type thing. It had the same outlining around the layered ends; the ends almost gave off a fairy like appearance. She had a pair of two-inch black heels that matched perfectly.

The night of the big party came and Kagome couldn’t be less enthused if she tried. She hated going knowing that InuYasha wouldn’t be with her, and everyone there had a date. She arrived an hour late and stayed by the wall. The room was lit by black light and the music blared as she traced the edges of the walls with her finger tips. She imagined what it would be like if he was there. He would call her stupid for wanting to go and then would apologize and ask her to dance. She missed it. A tear drop fell from her eye. It almost reached her cheek when someone whipped it away.
“What's wrong?” a calm voice asked
“Just remembering someone special.”
The man looked at her for a moment. She looked up at him and saw golden eyes and short silvery white hair.
She hadn’t noticed it when he first talked to her, but now he looked familiar.
“Wanna dance?”
“Yea sure” she said calmly
He clasped her hand and led her onto the dance floor.
A slow song had come on and it was one of her person favorites. Celine Dion: My heart will go on.
He held her close to him as they danced. Another tear fled from her cheek.
“Now, why is pretty young woman like you, crying?” he asked concerned
“I lost someone I loved a while ago and I haven’t gotten over him.”
“I’m sorry” he said comforting her.
There was a long silence.
“so why are you here alone?” she asked
“oh um some reason as you, not that she died but she doesn’t know who I am, well not anymore. And we wont see each other again. that doesn’t make much sense does it?”
“not really, but I think I do” she said reassuringly.

The music played softly in the background as the couple danced. Yuka looked over from her current dancing to see Kagome dancing with someone; she couldn’t see his face though.
“Erie... over here...” she whispered
“Yea...what?”
“Look, I think Kagome’s .....I mean she actually looks...” Yuka gaped at her loss of words as she pointed to the odd pair.
“Happy.” Erie said in astonishment
“Yea” Yuka sighed as she watched her friend dance happily.

The two danced along silently as they stared in an awkward silence. The man suddenly looked towards her and stopped dancing. “Wanna go outside on the balcony?” he asked
She stood silent for a moment.
“Yea” she sighed as he took her hand and led her out.

They stood near the edge underneath the odd harvest moon. The light shone down on them as the crickets played in the background. The two stood in each others arms enjoying each others company and the warmth of the summer night. He held her close to him as they exchanged a silent conversation. Kagome looked away from the beautiful scenery to look up into his golden gaze.
“Enjoying the evening?” he asked breaking the silence.
“Yea” she sighed. Truth be told, this was the only truthfully happy evening since the accident occurred.
“Good” he said as she took a breath. She let out a soft giggle as she looked at the infinite amount of stars.
“Kagome, what's so funny?”
“This just all seems like a dream or a memory...that’s it...dejavu.” she says as a recollection of InuYasha and her laying under the stars with her head resting on his chest, She walked over and leaned on the balcony about 4 feet away from the man.
“See there, you’re remembering the good times, rather then the bad.”
She was silent for a moment the realized...
“How did you know there was....how did you know my name?” she asks frantically remembering she never told him. She turned to face him and he cupped her chin and leaned in to kiss her.
The song played louder in the background.

< You’re here, there’s nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We’ll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on>

They broke apart and she looked into his eyes.
She looked into his eyes hopefully, searching for an answer to a pain-stricken question.
He didn’t give her time to ask before answering for himself.
“I love you” he said kissing her once more.
She opened her eyes to find he had vanished.
“I love you too, InuYasha”

Epilogue:
Yuka and Erie walked out to the balcony after showing everyone out of the house.
“Kagome who was that guy?” they echoed hopeful for an answer
Kagome sat there and pondered over what to say for a second and then looked at the two girls.
“Just a... unexpected ...encounter with my past.” She said smiling.
