Coming back home.

“The death does not discriminate between its prey. It takes men and women, young and elderly, healthy and ill, sinned and those who lived their lives righteously. But we, we can look it in the eyes, because we concurred our fears long ago! Our mistakes; we leaned from them. Our failures; we tried again and became victors. Our pain; we came to terms with, and we moved on! So lets…” Kagome sighted.

Any more books like this one and she would have to start working on her self esteem. Traveling with Inu Yasha has proven to be quite a difficult task, but she knew that it was her fault breaking up the jewel and as she was its guardian. So it was only right that she was the one to collect all the shards. Though it was an old shred now. Kagome didn't mind much traveling back to the past, but if only she could do something about the pain. This pain, it was like a poison that made its way to her heart and now was slowly corroding it.

Kagome knew that she was not weak; at least she was not as weak as she was three year ago when she first embarked on this perilous journey of hers. Since then she has proven her strength numerous times during their travel in search of the jewel shards. She even managed to develop some immunity towards Inu Yasha's habit of calling her various inappropriate names, at least they were inappropriate from hers, Sango's, Miroku's and Shippou's points of view, and of course an occasional “sit” would come in handy. Still something was not right, her heart was aching.

Beep…beep…beep Kagome shifted and with a loud thud fell of the chair.
“Oh joy. What a way to start a new day” she mumbled while getting up and turning off the alarm clock. Must have fallen asleep while reading that book she though looking at the table to where the Fall and rise of twelve empires lay motionlessly in a think black cover. Another one of the school books that she had to read for her English class.

AH! Look at the time, 7:00 am I have to be in school in an hour! She quickly opened the tall red wood closet looking for her school uniform. Hoping to find at least one, as she had so many of them but most got ruined during her trips to the Feudal era. As she hectically went through a couple of outfits she finally found the uniform peacefully hanging in the back row of her closet. It was clean, mended, and ironed. Smiling Kagome took it from the hanger and went to the bathroom to take a quick shower and to change. She was actually hoping to take a bath, but the time was pressing.

7:20..7:20.. 7:21.. 7..7..7 What?! I wonder if I have any tests today. Now let's see, the math midterm was on a Monday two week ago and chemistry quiz was coming up the following week…Mrs. Higurashi walked in to the kitchen and found her daughter sitting at the table munching on some cereal, with a very serious look on her face.

Mrs. Higurashi smiled. She always encourage Kagome to go on her trips to the past, even if she dread it each time that Kagome left, was it the last time that she saw her daughter? But she knew that Kagome's friends would never let anything happen to her daughter. Nevertheless she was happy to see Kagome come back home, maybe this time she would stay home longer and take her school work more seriously. Kagome missed lots of school and her future was questionable. Optimist as she was, Mrs. Higurashi believed that if her daughter would pull up her grades even a little bit, maybe then she would be able to attend a City College.

“Morning mom” Kagome greeted her mother. Finally coming back from her musing, Tests or no tests school is still important she thought. Then she noticed a small smile on her mother's lips.

“What is it mom?” she asked innocently, her own thoughts running wild. Do I have something on my face? My uniform? My hair? Why am I so agitated? Kagome was genuinely confused.

“Kagome, my dear. Today is Saturday but by the way you look I presume you where getting ready to go to school?”

A wild look crossed Kagome's face. She could not believe it. Did she loose the track of time again? She sighted.

“I hate when this happens.” She stated simply, stuffing the last spoon of cereal in her mouth and getting up. After all it was Inu Yasha's fault. He was the one who ripped up her calendar or at least damage it so that it was no longer useful.

She was just marking the last day of her period, when he came up to her and curiously stared at the piece of paper which she held in her hands.
“What is this?” he asked her, but before she could respond, he yanked it from her hands.
“Give it back Inu Yasha!” Kagome was not in the best of her moods, as Miroku noticed smiling to himself. Inu Yasha was asking for it.

“I do not have to explain everything to you. So please…” She could not finish the sentence, as she saw him jump up the closest tree and make himself comfortable on the branch.
“Now this maybe edible” he stated, as he sniffed the unfortunate calendar and started turning pages with the strange markings on them.
“Inu Yasha I will count to ten and you will come down from there and give me back what mine!” Kagome was getting angrier by the second.
“Feh, wench if you think that I will…”
“SIT” her voice rang through the night. As Inu Yasha fell face down into the mud. That was the last that she had seen of her calendar.

“At least I hope that its April?” asked Kagome, as she washed and put away her bowl.
“Yes, dear.” Mrs. Higurashi always wanted to help her daughter but now seeing her like this, disoriented, nervous, even sad?
“What happened? We thought that you would not be coming back for another week or so?” Kagome halted. What was she going to tell her mother? She could not lie to her, after all she knew that her mother loved her and wanted only what was best for her daughter, but she could not tell her the truth. Did she know it herself? What was she doing here? Or was this all just a dream?
