Till Forever Ends

Summary: the jewel was complete, all was left was the wish.

But Kagome has left the Sengoku Jidai forever. And InuYasha finds out that things will never be the same. So he is left to make a wish.

The battle was finally over. Naraku had once and for all been defeated. The jewel had finally become whole and all that was needed was to make a wish. The battle itself had not been bad- it was the aftershock of losing your friends. Shippoe had been killed when he jumped in the way of an attack meant for Rin. I think he loved her. Keada died the second Naraku was defeated. I believe she was only holding on to see his death. Kouga finally gave up chasing after me when he agreed to mate with Ayame. I have a feeling he knew it was pointless to continue.

What of Miroku and Sango, you ask?

They survived the battle, but barely. After nearly losing each other they realized how much they loved each other and finally got married. A few weeks later she found out she was pregnant, I was thrilled for her. She said if it was a boy his name would be Kohaku, and if a girl, she would be named after me. I was honored.

But I was shocked when they said they were moving to the nearby town. Sango said it was easier to raise a child there, so I was left alone.

Now all that was left was InuYasha. InuYasha, my mind floods to him and our imminent end. I know I cannot stay here, he won't let me. Now all I can do is stare at him as he stares into the embers of our campfire. He moved slightly, here it comes the `time to go home, Kagome' thing.

“Ready?”

“Hmm?”

“Are you ready to go?”

“Oh” I sighed “InuYasha do I have ...”

“Yes” he said bluntly “Kagome you know it will be easier if you just go”

“But what if I wanna stay?”

“Kagome you have to trust me, remember when I promised you forever?”

“Yes” I say almost in tears.

“I meant it, there is just something I have to do first”

“InuYasha “

“No Kags it's just better if you go now” he said with what looked like tears in his eyes.

“You're going to hell with Kikyo” I said flatly

“Kagome...”

“No InuYasha I understand. Just promise me one thing ok?”

“Kagome I'm not going to hell with Kikyo ...”

“InuYasha just make me the damned promise ok?” I beg softly

“Ok what?”

”When I leave, we can't look back. We have to move on and forget each other, and if we must think of each other, let it be in the best possible way.” With tears in my eyes I finished my sentence “I wish the best for you, InuYasha”

Tears gleamed in my eyes as I saw tears falling from his eyes.

“Kagome.....”

“I'm sorry InuYasha “

“Why ... never mind just promise me this”

“Ok”

“Wait for me”

“Forever” I say as I turn to walk away.

I reach the well and take one look back, only to see InuYasha looking back at me. We make eye contact and I jump in.

Years later

It is mind spring, sakura blossoms flowed over the black asphalt giving it a somewhat mourning essence.

A young man, with short silver hair and piercing ember eyes, walked up the long stairway to the shrine house. His hands were buried in his front pockets as she shrugged staring down at the ground.

He looks around the small shrine, noticing a few changes.

An old man was sweeping the front porch; he was instantly recognized as Takeda Higurashi, Kagome's grandfather, and the old man who constantly tried his sutras on him.

`Crazy old man' he thought as he passed by.

No sign of the little brother was found. He inwardly smiled, one less thing to distract me.

He walked up to the screen door and tapped on it.

Mrs. Higurashi answered- she had on her signature apron and smile.

“Hi Higurashi-san, is Kagome here?”

“Inu—InuYasha?” she asked in shock

“Hai, is she here?”

“No.” she said flatly lowering her head.

“When will she return?”

She never answered, she just pointed to the back yard and handed InuYasha a piece of parchment.

“Read this, Kagome wrote it shortly after returning home.” She said with faux cheeriness.

“Ok then” `that was odd' he thought as he walked towards the back yard, completely oblivious to what Higurashi-san had said.

He opened the piece of parchment and read it as he walked.

He stared at the paper for a minute before reading it.

 

“End of Forever

By Kagome Higurashi

 

In the unknown tomorrow

And in the pouring rain

Blood pours from the heavens

As they cry out in pain

Night is among us

As we are no longer able to see the day

Your silence says everything

As we go our own way

We promised not to look back

But promises always break

I turn to look into your eyes

And my heart begins to ache

You looked so sad

Angry maybe even hurt

But I know that one day you'll be happy

You'll be happier with her

Now I can only give you a fake smile

And say I wish you both the best

Even though I am crying on the inside

As I leave, and finally put my broken soul to rest.”

 

InuYasha looked at the paper with a funny looked etched onto his features. Before he could decipher it any further, a small piece of pink paper fell from the poem.

He reached down and picked up the paper

`It's addressed to me'

 

“InuYasha, if you read the poem, I am pretty sure my mother gave it to you, I know you didn't understand. The day I left the feudal era, was the day my heart died. I know you asked me to wait for you, but I waited my entire life and I couldn't any longer. I am sorry InuYasha.

I loved you, I really did, and that is why it killed me to be away from you. It killed me to know that you and Kikyo would be together in hell and that she would win you over. Maybe in another life, InuYasha, maybe we can have a chance then. Remember, I love you and I always have and always will.

Kagome.”

 

`In another life? Why not now?” he thought as his body connected with a hard concrete object.

“What the hell?” he swore as he took a step back to examine it.

“Kagome Higurashi - 1989- 2006- “He read slowly.

It apparently didn't click until he read it again.

“KAGOME HIGURASHI!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!”

“She killed herself a few weeks after she returned.” A small voice came from behind him, almost scaring the hell out of him “She would have died soon any way. She wouldn't eat, barely slept; she even dropped out of school.”

“Souta.... when.... why.....but how could she just??” he stuttered

“She couldn't take it anymore- the waking up in the middle of the night crying that is”

InuYasha was speechless.

“You killed her InuYasha” he said bluntly.

“You used to be my hero InuYasha, and then “He shook his head and continued “then you killed her” tears brimmed in his eyes but he refused to let them fall.

“Souta I...”

“I blame you for everything!! All of Kagome's friends tried to warn her about you, but all we saw was the good and faithful friend, they didn't even MEET you and they knew you'd destroy her!! I don't understand how we didn't see it” he whispered

“Souta, I loved her, you cannot blame me for all of this”

“Oh I can't can I? Let's recollect for a moment. Who always broke her heart? Who sent her home in tears? Who accused her of having relations with Kouga, when you yourself had one with Kikyo?

Certainly wasn't us! It was you”

“She was supposed to wait for me, she promised me forever”

“Well InuYasha, forever ends now” he said blankly as he walked back into the house.

`I killed her.... me, I did it..... I tried so hard to protect her and ...I killed her' his mind crashed as he himself crashed onto the hard ground.

He placed his head on the top of the stone and sobbed.

Sobbed for the loss of his love, sobbed for being the one who killed her, and sobbed for not seeing it.

Then he noticed something, it was the jewel.

`I can use the jewel and wish her back'

He clutched the jewel to his chest a prayed for her soul back

The jewel turned an eerie black and refused the wish.

“You can not wish someone's soul back, I am sorry.” A voice called from the jewel.

“Fine then, I wish this had never happened and Kagome had never fallen down the well”

“Your wish is granted”

Inside the Higurashi house, four friends sat on the couch making up jokes and laughing at each other.

“'C'mon Sango, spill were you and Miroku making out behind the stairwell?” Kagome laughed

InuYasha walked into the kitchen with a bowl of ramen.

“InuYasha I would laugh if one day you became violently allergic to ramen” Sango laughed out.

“Ha ha ha not funny Sango” InuYasha sarcastically laughed

“So any way, Sango previous question?”

“Oh uh yea we were why?”

“Wondering that's all”

“What so you and Yash can make out with out getting caught?”

“Hell yea”

InuYasha nearly choked on his ramen

“WHAT?”

“Chill Yash I was just playin”

“Ohh ok”

“Awe what Yash? Ya upset cuz Kagome doesn't like you?”

“Yea ya know” he said placing an arm around Kagome “But I'm too good for her any way”

“Love you too Yash” she said giving him a small kiss and making him blush.

“Yea, till forever ends” he said as they turned on the TV.
