Chapter 7~Competition?
~~~Inyasha was feeling alot better, now that he had been secretly working out at nights, but he was still not fully healed. But he knew it would time to leave soon, already his keen senses were coming back, his sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch. All of it was becoming stronger everyday and soon his body would turn back to that of a hanyou. He had to get back to his brother and back to the Western Lands before he was captured. The funny thing about it though. He wasnt quite ready to leave his angel in disquise just yet, even though it was the major reason he truelly needed to leave. The temptation to take her and make love to her was getting stronger and stronger everyday. His loins ached to feel himself buried deep inside of her and hear her sigh and moan, to writh beneath him and have her call his name. But it wouldnt truelly be his rightfull name would it? Noooo. He was decieving her and she deserved better, but he was definitly sure it was not the chiefs arrogant and egotistical son Hojo.
~~~Hojo had been coming round lately, while Kagome tended to the herb gardens and did her chores. Did he offer to help her with said chores? NO! But he followed her around as she did them and talked on and on about one day being chief of the village and how he would be looking for a bride to be by his side and have many children to carry on the family name. It didnt take a keen nose or sight to know that he was hinting to Kagome that he wanted her to be his wife. But to her credit Kagome would smile at him and tell him that some day he would find the perfect wife for him that would make him happy. She pretended not to realize that he was flirting with her, hinting that he wanted HER to be his bride. But the boy was just dense or something because he could not take a hint. He came over daily now and didnt seem to give up hope that Kagome would understand him soon and then they could be together.
~~~Inuyasha wasnt sure why this bothered him so much. He had no claim to Kagome and being a chiefs wife would be a good thing for her. She would be able to leave this horrible place, with her ass of an uncle and a bitch for a cousin. He hated the way they treated her and used her little brother against her, threatening to throw them both on the street if she didnt BEHAVE as they put it. Seriously, what kind of priest was this man? What kind of family was he? And forget the cousin. In Inu's opinion and from what he coul see and gather for himself, Kagome's cousin Kikyo was jealous of Kagome. Niether Kagome or Hojo ever seemed to notice that when Hojo was around, Kikyo would pretend to sweep the shrine steps or grounds, things she would NEVER ever do. It was like she wanted to be noticed. Inuyasha had a feeling she had the hots for this Hojo guy, that or she was just a lusty wentch who hid behind her so called innocent priestess role. Either way it bothered Inuyasha to no end. He couldnt say why, jealousy? Sure perhaps, he was male and yes he was attracted to Kagome alot, but he had promised to leave her be. But it didnt mean it didnt rankle and that he actually wanted to see her with Hojo of all people, but what could he do? He would be gone soon. He just hadnt figured it would be sooner than he thought.
~~~As usual Inuyasha was in Kagome's futon as she worked on her herb garden outside. He could hear her humming a sweet tune he couldnt place but loved hearing coming from her. He hated being cooped up, but during the day it was impossible for him to go outside, he just had to wait till night came. But that night would be diffrent than most. He was laying there when he heard steps running up to the shrine, towards Kagome. At first his whole body tensed and readied for a fight, or to protect Kagome, till the nausiating scent of Hojo came to him. But why was he running he thought. He listened from his hiding place, of course Kagome's room, while Hojo stopped just outside the door. Kagome was working on the special herb garden next to her little hovel.
"Oh my are you alright master Hojo?" Kagome asked with her usual kind and caring concern. Hojo was out of breath and sweaty, but he had a smile on his face so she didnt think it was something bad.
"Yes my sweet Kagome Im fine, thank you for your concern, I just needed to tell you the great news." came his response between deep breaths and pants.
"Really? What news would that be?"
"Lord Ekki has decided that it has been far to long since the old overseers fortress and castle for this area had been deserted, so hes sending one of vassels to oversee the villages that reside in this area, and of course a small army to keep peace and what not.." Hojo paused to catch his breath, giving Kagome time to look past the village to the mountain where the old overseer's fortress was. It had long since been abandoned and in ruins, they had not had an overseer for the surrounding villages since the old Lord of the West ruled these lands and even then the Old Lord had not been able to find a suitable overseer who would be fair, not among humans, who tended to be greedy when given such power, or among demons who felt humans were beneath them and often cared little for them to actually protect them and keep the peace.
"But why now Master Hojo? Its been so long since the fortress has been occupied, and why would having Lord Ekki's army around be a good idea?" Kagome asked.
"Well for one we wouldnt have to worry about raids on our village, the overseer would take care to protect the villages under his rule, and any grievences that have gone unjustified will finally be resolved as well as new ones, but the best part? My father has been chosen as the human advisor to Lord Ekki's vassel, he and my mother shall be living there from now on, already he and several of our own village mean as well as the surrounding villages' men have gone up to the fortress to make repairs and see that the castle is in ready for Lord Ekki's vassel." Hojo explained with a wide smile. Kagome was confussed and frowned.
"But why are you so happy about that master Hojo? It means your family will not be with you here at the village any longer?" Kagome asked and she was surprised to see Hojo smile wider,
"Because my father has appointed me as the new chieftien of the village!" he almost shouted in glee. Kagome was speechless. She could not get over how power hungy this man was.
"And as the village chief, I now have means to take a wife and care for her," he added and Kagome didnt like the way he looked at her.
"I am happy for you Master Hojo." was all she could say.
"Dont you see my sweet Kagome? It is you that I have longed to be my wife, I have thought of the day that I may have the means and status to make you an offer that befits one such as you, now I have a title and the means which to make a proper offer to your uncle and make you my wife, will not that be wonderfull?" Hojo replied with tremendous glee, but as for Kagome the bottom of her stomache felt as if it had fallen out and she suddenly felt ill. She did not love this man. She did not want to marry him.
"But Master Hojo, what sort of wife will I be to one such as you? I am but a servant and I have a little brother who I am responsible for, I cannot leave him? It would break my heart." Kagome replied with great sadness in her voice, as well as desperation. She hoped he would reconsider and not ask her uncle for her hand, for her uncle no doubt would be more than willing to see her gone.
"Silly woman, do you think I would not take your brother in as well? He is your family and once we are married he will be mine as well, he will come with us." Hojo stated proudly and Kagome felt as if her world was spinning out of control.
"I must go now my sweet, I am needed to help with the repairs at the fortress and to gather supplies fromt he village to stock the castle for the Lords vassels arrival, but fear not, I shall return in time and then I will ask your uncle for your hand in marriage...till then my precious, be well and think of me." Hojo stated as he turned on his heel and waved at her as he headed back to the village. This was not good news at all. Kagome felt bereft. She wanted to cry. But she would not give Kikyo that satisfaction, for even now she could see Kikyo at the top of the shrine steps, glaring down at her. Oh why could it not have been her that Hojo pinned for she wondered.
~~~Back int he room, Inuyasha was all but holding in his rage. He had heard everything and he did not like it. He did not like the idea of HIS Kagome in Hojo's arms, in his bed, baring his children. Again he was unsure why he even cared for he would be gone, gone tonight in fact. The news of Ekki's new vassel arriving to look over this part of the land was bad. He needed to leave least he be discovered. He would leave tonight, but his gut still did not care for the fact that he was leaving something precious behind, something that could and would never be his once he left. Not that he believed in love or such, or wanted anything less than to be bonded to anyone least of all a human. But he could not help but feel that he had a prior claim to her and hated that fact that Hojo would soon have her. Somehow he had to find a way to make that not happen. It would be for the best right? He didnt want to see her with Hojo and from the way she sounded, she did not want to be with Hojo, so he would be doing her a favor right? At least it was he told himself as he thought of what he was going to do to make sure Hojo would not have her.
