English, Math and Chemistry

 

“Haven't you ever wanted to have a real relationship?” Kagome asked the stoic figure the stood beside her under the tree.

 

“I have relationships.” His tome dared her to disagree, but she fought the urge to take the bait. It only ever got her into trouble.

 

“Those are not the kind of relationships I'm talking about.”

 

“No?” Sesshomaru questioned. “Then explain you meaning.”

 

Kagome took a deep breath as she thought of how best to continue. “A relationship that involves both a man and a woman - “

 

“Like you and the monk.” He interrupted knowing just how to fluster her and enjoying the game.

 

“No.” She said shooting him a warning look over her shoulder. “A relationship that involves a human female and a demon - “

 

“Like you and Inu Yasha.” He cut her off again watching her cheeks grow red with frustration.

 

Kagome tried to calm herself. She had the distinct feeling of being backed into a corner yet again. “Okay…” she relaxed, “I need to start over.”

 

“At your convenience.” Sesshomaru made a mental tick on the scoreboard; he had won the first round again. It had been about a week since their last little game which he had almost lost due to her familiarity with things he had no way of knowing.

 

“Aha!” She exclaimed turning to face him, “A relationship where one plus one equals one.”

 

Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow as he moved to close the gap between them sensing that the game would soon be won. “I believe your math is flawed.”

 

As his imposing form came to rest within inches of her, Kagome realized it wasn't just the verbal sparring that had her flustered. “I never was any good at math…” she sighed, realizing she had lost the game yet again. “I always preferred chemistry anyway.”

 

Sesshomaru allowed himself a small smile as he leaned in to claim is prize. “How interesting…so do I.”
