InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Entering the University ❯ Escaping ( Chapter 5 )
Kagome found out what he had meant by coaxing soon enough for her. She was pulled up from the ground and carried to another cavern of the cave. In this cavern, there was a noose tied to a frame. Meant for her. She struggled and tried to loosen her gag so she could scream, but to no avail. They put the noose around her neck and placed her feet on a platform. Kagome was terrified. They were going to kill her! While some of the man's flunkies adjusted the knots, Kagome heard a commotion and saw Inuyasha being carried in. He wasn't really being carried, more of being dragged in. No one wanted to get close enough to his mouth to be bit or to his feet to be kicked. Kagome noted that two people had blood on their hands, probably because Inuyasha bit them and one was stumbling, probably because Inuyasha had kicked him. She was glad about that. There was still hope that they could get out of this. As Inuyasha was dragged around the corner, he saw Kagome. She was going to be hung! He felt something inside of him ache at the thought of Kagome being killed.
Inuyasha's boss walked in behind everyone. "Inuyasha, if you refuse to tell me the truth, your little girlfriend here will die." Inuyasha protested, "I am telling the truth. This is about me anyways, so leave Kagome out of it! She hasn't done anything!" Kagome was surprised that he didn't say anything about her being his girlfriend, as he usually would. The man gave some sort of a signal and Kagome felt the platform she is standing on move a little bit and the rope go tighter around her neck. Inuyasha saw this too and became frantic, trying to convince them to let her go. "No," said the man, "you see, with her life being in danger, you will tell us the truth faster. I am a busy man and I don't have all day to wait." Inuyasha was enraged at this. This man would think nothing of killing Kagome. And he was telling the truth!!
Inuyasha came up with a plan. He would stall as long as possible; hopefully they would not tighten Kagome's rope while he stalled. With this extra time, he'd get the ropes off of his hands and feet. With all of his struggling, they were starting to loosen a little bit. And with the sharp rocks on the floor behind him, he just might be able to get the ropes off. By looking at Kagome, he saw that there wasn't a lot of time. She was standing on the tips of her toes and had her head stretched as far up as possible in order to not be strangled. Inuyasha was sickened by what else he noticed. By the way that Kagome was looking at him; she clearly did not think that he could get them out of this. She was silently crying, tears rolling down her face. Inuyasha just had to save her. He wanted to prove her wrong. To tell her that he loved her. That is why he was feeling so horrible right now. He could lose the woman he loved forever. Furthermore, this would not be the first time this had happened to him, thinking back to what happened between him and Kikyo. He would save Kagome. There was no other choice for him.
Kagome stood there, looking at Inuyasha but not really seeing him. She wasn't sure if he could save himself, much less her. She tried not to cry but couldn't help herself. The man kept asking Inuyasha questions and Inuyasha didn't seem to be answering any. He was just kind of floundering, sputtering fragments of sentences, and it looked like he was just trying to find out what it would take to get out of this, what they wanted from him. "...if only I hadn't gotten so mad at him last night. None of this would have ever happened. It would have been over a few seconds after they came in..." Kagome thought. She had just about lost all hope.
"There!" Inuyasha thought. He had just untied his hands and feet. He winked at Kagome but she didn't even acknowledge him. Inuyasha frowned. Was she still mad at him? "Now for the tricky part., "thought Inuyasha. He jumped up and punched those closest to him in the neck. This disabled them, and almost killed them. He planned to fight and defeat every one of his opponents. Inuyasha's plan did not go as well as he had hoped. They tackled him and started beating him up. Inuyasha was close to defenseless with all of those people on top of him, holding him down. If only he had used the tetsiega to down the first two.., Inuyasha thought. But then it struck him: the sword would be useless on most of these men. They are completely human. There are only a numbered few in the cavern that the tetsiega would work with. This was a sad realization. Inuyasha looked up and saw that what stood between him and Kagome were his boss and the men atop Inuyasha. "By the way, I quit." Inuyasha stated through the mass of bodies atop him. The man just grinned. The man's flunkies laughed and moved so that Inuyasha could see what would be happening next. "Alright, finish her off", the boss said. "No!" Inuyasha yelled, "Don't! Don't do it! Stop!" No one listened to him. As the rope became taught Inuyasha could see all of Kagome's emotions in her eyes and on her face. He could see her fear and terror, her disappointment, her sadness, everything. He had never felt so awful in his entire life. Losing Kikyo was nothing compared to this. Inuyasha's ex-boss did not expect Inuyasha to come leaping at him as he did. Inuyasha managed to get out from under the hands of those holding him down and knock the boss down. This should have made it easy for Inuyasha to finish the fight off. "You're not so tough all by yourself, now are you?" Inuyasha said. The others in the cavern tried to tackle Inuyasha again but Inuyasha could not be caught. He made a beeline to Kagome. Inuyasha leaped up onto a stair and lifted Kagome up. He did not have any hope that she would still be alive but she was. Just barely though. She couldn't breath. Inuyasha had just enough time to slash the rope connecting it to the stand before the mob was upon them. Inuyasha managed to evade them and get both him and Kagome to a small shelf-like rock close to the top of the cave wall. He started to untie Kagome. She had been without air for so long that her face was a grey color and she was barely conscious. Inuyasha cut the noose off with his claws and undid her gag. Kagome then started to breathe again, gasping for the much needed oxygen. Since Kagome was in no immediate danger, Inuyasha took a look over the ledge. The men appeared to not be able to see where they had gone. Firing a shot would bring the cave ceiling down, and so they just had to look and wait. Inuyasha went back to caring for Kagome, cutting off the rope binding her hands and feet, being careful only to cut the ropes. He had barely finished when Kagome hugged him in a way that melted Inuyasha's heart. She murmured her thanks to him as they sat there in an embrace. Inuyasha started to pull away, but Kagome hung on. She did not want to leave the safety of his arms. He picked her up and started to make his way out of the cavern.
