Eternal Love
It was a dark and quiet night, full of gloom and silent ravens flapping away into the still and cold air. Everyone was asleep, though every once in a while Kagome would roll around, open her eyes, and in exasperation, shut them tight again. After a long time, she finally got up and with a lot of consideration, she thought: `I can't get his face out of my head! What happened that made me feel this way?' Walking slowly to the door, she lifted up the flap and peered outside. Inuyasha was there, sitting in his favourite tree, and ever so serenely sleeping. Suddenly Kagome's heart skipped a beat. She clutched her chest in fear. What was this strange new feeling in her heart? She forced herself not to look at him again, and walked with light steps to the stream close to the tree. She cupped some water and let the ripples in it subside. As she stared into her reflection, she wondered: `When Inuyasha finds the full jewel, will he even need me anymore?' She pictured his lips meeting Kikyo's and shook her head sadly. “Please don't do that!” She said aloud. Surprised at her own words, she let the water trickle slowly from her fingers and placed two fingers upon her cold lips. Something was stirring deep inside her, and she told herself she had to see Inuyasha again. With hesitation, she turned her head towards the tree, and after a few moments she sat down, not wanting to be disturbed by anything else.
When dawn gave the horizon a splash of pink and golden red, Kagome found herself still gazing upon her hero. Surprised, she gave a little gasp at how much time had passed, and proceeded to stand up. Her legs felt numb and cold, and for a few seconds she stumbled and gasped when she almost tripped. To her despair, the noise had woken Inuyasha from his deep slumber and his amber eyes were ever so slowly opening. Kagome knew that she had to leave before Inuyasha saw her, but the queer feeling she had inside held her back. It was a strange sight, the girl gazing at the handsome boy in the tree, but with a guilty look splashed across her face. When Inuyasha fully awakened, he was surprised to see Kagome staring up at him. Ignoring the urge to ask why, he asked her another question: “Kagome, why are you up so early?” Kagome thought he just tried to sound caring, although he really was. “I- I just needed a drink, that's all…” Inuyasha leaped down from his tree, which startled Kagome a little. He was walking closer each second, and the feeling in Kagome's heart grew. When he was but a few centimeters away, Kagome was frightened, and looked down at the luscious grass beneath her feet. Inuyasha gently put his hand under her chin, and with care, he tilted her pale face up so their eyes met. Kagome gasped at the deepness of his amber brown eyes and was lost in them. “Please… don't lie to me. You know you can trust me, don't you?” His hand reached for hers, and Kagome did not pull back. When their hands where entwined, Kagome felt a wave of hope and told him everything. Inuyasha nodded, and took everything in. After a long awkward time, Inuyasha gripped Kagome's hand hard, and whispered into her ear: “Kagome, I feel the same way about you too.” Kagome was surprised, and started to cry. It was just too much. All of this talk about Kikyo, and now he admitted that he loved Kagome. She buried her head in his arms and wept. Inuyasha's heart pained to see his love in sadness. He spun Kagome around so she was facing him, and leaned forward so his lips touched hers. Kagome closed her eyes, and two final crystal tears streamed down her cheeks. He loved her after all this time, and it felt as if the whole world belonged to them. When they broke apart, Inuyasha was smiling down at Kagome, and her lips were also curved into a smile. As the sun's rays finally touched their backs, Inuyasha laughed in happiness and for the luck he had to be with the only one he loved.
