InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Ever After ❯ Ever After ( One-Shot )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any characters related to the show in any form.
This is a very sad story, so don't expect a happy ending. This is the anniversary of my break up with my favorite boyfriend so I'm depressed.

~~~~~~~EVER AFTER~~~~~~~
In life there are no happily ever after’s, there are only dreams of a world that is untouchable.
When true love is found, it can easily be lost.
Sadness is an ache which most hearts have grown all too familiar with.
When the one you love with all your heart and soul is so close yet so far,
when everything is wrong in the world,
when you know that there is no "and they lived happily ever after."
only the bitterness of "ever after."
You can always escape to the world of dreams.
But reality strikes when you awake,
And you know that your life becomes an "Ever After."
It had been three years. They had battled Naraku and won, the jewel was whole, Kikyo put to rest and they were free.
Free to love, free to embrace, free to kiss, free to be together. But fate would not allow it.
She sat by the well, tears flowing freely down her face. Today would mark their anniversary.
Today would have been the day that five years ago, she released him from his slumber pinned to a tree.
Today would also mark the anniversary of Naraku's death, ironic huh, the same day he was released would be the same day
that his mortal enemy was slain by his hands.
She held the complete Shikon no Tama in her hands, her tears splashing onto the pink jewel.
'This is why we were together... and why we are apart.'
~*~*FLASHBACK~*~*
She held the jewel in her hand, tears streaked down her face. 'WE WON!!', her mind screamed over and over.
He ran up to her, bloody and bruised, but only asked about her. In his excitement he leaned down and placed a short kiss on her lips.
His lips were gone as soon as they were there. "I'm sorry" he mumbled.
Her only response was to pull him down to a longer more passionate filled kiss. When they parted he spoke.
"I love you, MY Kagome" he whispered
"I love you too, MY Inuyasha" She whispered back.
And then it happened, the jewel glowed pink, a bright light engulfed Kagome. When it cleared she was back in the well house, the jewel in hand.
~*~*END FLASHBACK~*~*
She remembered how she cried, bawled and attempted to use the well repetitively, but nothing worked.
That was three years ago. And now she was sitting by the well, crying...again.
Everyday she would try to use the well, and everyday she would end up crying.
Her soul was shattered, but it would have to rebuild. The pain and hurt would all end today.
He sat in his tree, staring into the sky with blank eyes.
The sun shone brightly, a few clouds passed by over head. He didn't care his life was nothing without her.
He was nothing without her.
'So long I've waited, and when my true love does come. She is pulled away from me. Why do the gods hate me. What have I ever done!'
Three years since she was pulled from his arms. Three years without her smile.
He had mourned over her for days. Visited the well constantly and barely ate.
Sango, Miroku, and after a while even Shippo, had gotten over her. They moved on.
But he could not, life wasn't the same without her.
She would try her hardest to make others happy, even if her life was on a downward spiral to hell.
He loved her more than he could ever love Kikyo. H couldn't count the number of times he tried to use the well after she was gone.
Three years without her seemed like an eternity. He would gladly wait 500 years to see her smile, to smell her intoxicating scent.
But he knew he couldn't live 500 years, unless she was by his side.
It was time to accept the truth.
Time to let go.
She stood up and looked into the depths of the well. She stood for what seemed like hours before she spoke.
"Goodbye, my love. I will always think of you, every day of my life. Please remember me.
I wish I could see you one more time. But that will only be in my dreams."
A single tear fell into the well, along with the jewel. She turned and ran out of the well house, still mourning her lost love.
"Farewell, Inuyasha"
He stood by the well. Willing it to give him back his Kagome, but nothing happened.
"My love for you will always be there, you hold my heart in your hand. You were the best thing in my life.
You showed me the world, that people did care. Thank you, and goodbye, my Kagome.
I will see you in 500 years. But until then I'll see you in my dreams."
A single tear fell into the well to join hers.
