CHAPTER 1

It was a cold night and yet, Inu-yasha was still awake watching over his friends as they slept. They were in a small clearing with a fire that had burned out to just a flicker of light, and heat.

Miroku was asleep in his usual position, sitting up against a tree with his staff hooked in his arm just incase anything should happen.

Sango slept on the opposite side of the campfire from Miroku so that the perverse monk didn't get any opportunities to feel her while she slept. Hiratsu (sango's giant boomerang) was propped up against a tree just within her reach. Kirara slept curled up in a tight ball against Sango's back, with his two tails covering his face.

Shippo was sleeping, just as he always does, on Kagome's stomach. Kagome... every time he watched her she looked more beautiful than the last. Inu-yasha stayed awake every night to watch over his "clan" as it were, but mostly to watch over Kagome. Tonight, however, other things filled his mind.

They had been following Naraku's trail for over four days now and they were catching up. The last time they had encountered Naraku, Inu-yasha almost got himself killed. It took all the groups strength just to make it out alive and even that was a miracle. This time was different though; Naraku was visibly weaker, and so Inu-yasha and his clan sought to confront him while they had the upper hand.

Inu-yasha's head snapped up and he began to smell the wind, something had changed. As if sensing a change from Inu-yasha Kagome awoke and asked him, "Inu-yasha what's wrong." "I don't know, but something has changed slightly, the forest is quieter. Go back to sleep now Kagome, we will see what happened in the morning." Kagome laid her head back down and quickly drifted off to sleep.

The next morning when Kagome woke up Inu-yasha was already starting to wake up the rest of the group. She smiled as she watched him. For as rough as he made himself sound he was really, very sweet.

After breakfast, Inu-yasha and the group headed west to catch up with Naraku. Three hours later they came to a large clearing when suddenly Kagome stopped, Kagome looked at Inu-yasha a said "Inu-yasha there is a jewel shard in the middle of that clearing." Everyone knew what that meant; they had finally caught up with Naraku. They all step cautiously into the clearing and watched as a barrier was immediately constructed around them, and in the middle of the clearing stood Naraku.

Naraku looked at them and laughed, "You think you can beat me? A worthless Hanyou (a half youkai, a youkai is a demon), a cursed monk, and their women." A laugh echoed from his throat, "Today you will die and I will finally have the Shikon no Tama."

Inu-yasha pulled out the Tetsusaiga (Inu-yasha's sword) and shouted, "Feh, you are weaker then the last time we fought and I almost beat you then, but this time will be different."

Inu-yasha quickly performed the Kaza no kiza (the wound in the wind) directly at Naraku. Naraku easily jumped it and threw off his Baboon outfit to revealing his true self. He looked just like a normal human with long black hair dark grey skin on top of his shirt wrapped around his body was a string of black, tennis ball sized, black beads. Inu-yasha quickly soared into the air and brought the Tetsusaiga down on Naraku with all his strength. Naraku reached into his cloak and pulled out two swords. He brought one of them up blocking the Tetsusaiga and swung the other one diagonally slashing a half-inch deep gash across Inu-yasha's chest.

As Inu-yasha hit the ground green smoke started to rise out of his cut, Naraku laughed, "That blade was poisoned, and in just a matter on minuets you will be dead."

Something big whistled by Inu-yasha's ear and Hiratsu flashed past him in Narku's direction, before it could hit him, Naraku pulled a spell scroll out of his cloak and touched Hiratsu with it. Hiratsu stopped in mid air and dissolved into black smoke, Naraku's right hand disappeared into his shirt and pulled out a Hell's bees nest tossed it into the air. The hive bust open and the bees swarmed around Naraku.

"Inu-yasha, did you really think I wouldn't notice a stinking Hanyou following me. I have been preparing for this moment for days; your end is finally here."

Naraku pulled yet another spell scroll out of his shirt and crushed it in his hand when he opened his hand again a small ball of energy appeared in the scrolls place, suddenly the ball started to grow rapidly in size. In just seconds, the ball was bigger than Naraku, suddenly Miroku spoke up, "Inu-yasha I can open a hole in his shield quickly let us escape." "No, Naraku will die here." "Inu-yasha, that ball he is holding possesses the strongest energy I have ever felt, it will surely kill you." Naraku butted in, "It is to late monk, Inu-yasha's stubbornness will kill him." Then he hurled the giant ball at Inu-yasha.

Inu-yasha grabbed Tetsusaiga and leapt directly into the ball of energy, "BAKURYUUHA!" (The Tetsusaiga's ultimate attack) the ball suddenly turned inward and split into seven different tornados all headed toward Naraku.

Naraku unsheathed a sword on his waist and muttered "Baka Hanyou," under his breath. Twisting sideways Naraku dodged left and right leaping at Inu-yasha as a tornado crashed into his chest knocking him back fifty feet and removing his left arm.

Kagomes purifying arrow flew past Inu-yasha and stopped just inches short of Naraku's head. Sango spoke up almost as if she was expecting it, and sai, "Kagome-sama, the beads around Naraku protect him from your arrow. Apparently he has prepared well in advance for this encounter."

Naraku slowly lifted himself off the ground looking very irritated, "You bastard Hanyou I will cause you much pain for this disgrace." "Feh, you talk big for someone who just lost and arm to a bastard Hanyou." Inu-yasha quickly rolled to the side just in time to dodge Naraku's sword. Inu-yasha, feeling confident again shouted, "Naraku where in seven hells where you aiming?" "At the one place it will hurt you most"
