Ever After, Chapter One

A/N: Okay, I want Inu-Yasha yaoi, and I’m too lazy to look for it! Yay? Anyway, this is wonderful, and starts off with the Inu-Yasha and Kagome break up. I hate her... Anyway, Miroku comes to comfort him, and is thwarted. I’m going to hate myself for this, so there’s going to be a sequel. Based off a doujin I read.

“I’m sorry, but I can’t!” Kagome screeched, not caring who was listening. Inu-Yasha stood there, his exterior proud and defiant as always, despite his depression inside. He sneered, a low growl emitting from his throat.

“Fine! I don’t care, Kagome! Go home and never come back for all I care! I don’t need you!” Inu-Yasha’s snarl increased, glaring at her quietly desperate face. She grabbed a hold of his sleeve, pleading with him.

“Don’t get me wrong, and it’s nothing against you! I LOVE you! I just have to live my real life in the real world! I can’t stay here, because there’s no future for me here!” Inu-Yasha stiffened, before shaking her off of him.

“Fine then! If there’s nothing here for you, then why are you still hanging around here? We found the Shikon Jewel, so there is no need for your Sight. Go away already!” He started walking off, as tears began to fill her eyes.

“Fine! I will! I hope I never EVER see you again, Inu-Yasha! You hear me?” He just waved over his shoulder, and she turned and jumped down the well. Inu-Yasha stopped a few paces later, his eyes shadowed. He made no noise, just shook. He whispered words, but they were so quite, they disappeared into the night air before they could be heard.

“I’m sorry...”

The entire next day, Inu-Yasha sat in the tree next to the well, staring down at that accursed, dry well that he threw everyone’s life into disarray. Suddenly, a tremor threw him out of the tree. He looked up, glaring at the cause from his sprawled position on the floor. Miroku smirked, setting his staff down from it’s run in with the trunk of the tree.

“What do you want Miroku?” He glared, picking himself up and dusting himself off.

“I want to help you.” Miroku took a step forward, approaching the seething Inu-Yasha with as much respect and caution as he possibly can. Inu-Yasha bristled.

“How.. How dare you?! I don’t need your help!” Miroku sighed, before gently lifting his staff.... and smacking him over the head.

“You ARE truly clueless, aren’t you? Can’t you see what your doing to yourself?” He raised a delicate eyebrow as Inu-Yasha rubbed his head. Inu-Yasha looked up at him, before letting a hand fly forward to wrap around his through.

“You smug son of a bitch! What do you think your doing?” Miroku just let himself be chocked, letting off a small smile. He knew that Inu-Yasha couldn’t possibly keep this up for long. After a few minutes, however, his breath began to come short, and darkness began to creep in at the edges o his eyes. He just kicked Inu-Yasha, who had spaced off. His sudden jolt to consciousness caused his grip to weaken and Miroku pulled away.

“Hello? Were you honestly trying to kill me?” He spit angrily, but Inu-Yasha just dumbly shook his head.

“I.... I forgot....” Miroku stared at his dull eyes, and was just about hurt from the empty tone to his voice. He lifted his arms, and wrapped them around Inu-Yasha in a protective hug. Inu-Yasha started a bit, but made no effort to pull away. Miroku began to whisper quietly in his ear.

“I know how you must feel, but you can’t let yourself waste away like this. She does have responsibilities and opportunities in her world that she can’t have here. Besides, she can’t possibly live her very comfortably, when you look at her world. They have a lot more comforts there that we’re used to going without. She’d always be unhappy here. And you can’t possibly go there, not with you being YOU. You too are just too different, so you know that it’s better this way. Besides, there are still people here who love you, and they just want to make you happy.” With this, Miroku’s face obtained a slight coloration, and Inu-Yasha pulled away with a confused look on his face.

“Someone..... Someone else loves me?” He tilted his head, his eyes holding an intensity that bore into Miroku like a knife. Miroku knew that he was searching for an answer, and he finally felt ready to tell him. He grabbed a hold of his sleeve and took him a short distance away from the well, clearing his head. Finally, he stopped and turned to face him, his blush intensified.

“Inu-Yasha, I lo-“

”INU-YASHA!” A female voice pierced the air and Inu-Yasha turned, immediately dashing back in the direction of the well. Kagome spread out her arms, and they met in a joyful hug.

“I.... I had to come back! I don’t want to be without you!” She sniffed, tightening her grip. Inu-Yasha didn’t say anything for a minute, standing there with a happy smile on his face. He finally responded with a simple word.

“Good.”

Miroku watched this with a strange detachment. In a way, he knew it would turn out like this. It saddened him a bit, but he resigned himself to his fate. He never told him, so it doesn’t matter. Miroku slung his staff over his shoulder and disappeared into the shadow of the trees.

A/N: Alright, I know it’s short, but give me a break! I can’t stand that wench, so there is DEFINITELY going to be a sequel, where poor Miroku gets to be happy! Yayyy!!! And yes, the others will be MUCH longer. My ff.net fanbase would be so ashamed of me right now....
