Chapter 1
The Unexpected

It was a nice, quite day in Tokyo. The sun was high in the brilliant, light blue sea above the city accustomed with puffy, white clouds. Birds were singing their daily songs, critters were running around in the parks and nearby forest, and the city people were going through their own daily routines.

Yes, it was quite a cheery day for the people in Tokyo. Everyone except the employees of “Shikon Designs.”

“Arrrrgghh! Where are they?! The deadline is today people!” came a very angry but usually gentle voice from deep inside the complex building.

In that exact area stood a woman with waist-long raven hair with blue tints in it cascaded around her back and electric blue eyes reflecting her anger and fear at the scrambling workers. She wore a long, black, silk skirt, along with a red, silk blouse and brown, high-heeled pumps. At first glance-if she wasn't so angry and scared-you would have seen right away that she was unquestionably beautiful and kind.

But not right now. No, she was angry and afraid because they couldn't find the outfits she created for a fashion show in Okinawa. The designs are supposed to be shipped today and they even didn't have them boxed up as far as she knew. They only had few minutes before their private post office* closed.

Who's this woman, you ask? Well, meet Kagome Higurashi, a very popular fashion designer of Tokyo. She's bright, cheery and has a warm aura around making everyone love her but when she's angry, heh, let's just say when she's angry she makes people put their tails in between their legs. But she's only angry once in a blue moon and only some people have seen her angry only a few times.

Unfortunately, this just happens to be one of those nights with a blue moon.

“Kagome-sama, please calm down, I'm sure well find them,” came a new and surprisingly calm voice from behind Kagome.

Standing there in a purple, silk, long-sleeved blouse, dark-blue jeans, and black sneakers. Features equipped with indigo eyes and black hair tinted with brown, pulled back into a small ponytail at the nape of his neck was her assistant, Miroku Nishimoto.

“How can I calm down!?” she shouted, “Those clothes need to be at the post office Now!”

Miroku had inched his way over to Kagome's side when she turned back to the employees, pretending to be watching the frightened workers scurry around, looking for their four-weeks-worth-of-work.

“Don't worry Kagome-sama, I'm pretty sure we'll find them in time,” he said rather calmly, too calmly if you asked her. She noticed that his hand was coming in close contact with her ass. Just before the offending appendage came in contact with her rounded behind, she saw an empty box. She quickly picked it up and slammed him on the top his head with it, leaving a hole in the box.

“Ahhhhh…owww, Kagome-sama! What ever was that for!?” he exclaimed from his spot on his butt from where he's laying currently on the ground in a fake innocent voice.

“You know exactly why, you hentai!” she replied accusingly, staring him down like how an angry mother stares down at her misbehaved child, “I'm surprise you even have spiritual powers since you keep on saying your perverted nature is a `curse' from a long line of men in your otherwise sick family”

“Why Kagome-sama! You know as well as I do that I do to have spiritual powers! I mean you of all people know that or should I say sense that?” He shot back with a knowing look.

It was true. Kagome and Miroku both have spiritual powers. Kagome was once a priestess at the Higurashi Shrine, living in the shrine house with her family, till she moved out when she was eighteen. Her grandfather, Kentaro Higurashi, wanted her to inherit the shrine, saying that it was her destiny and she would smite the gods if she went against her destiny, which was a load of bull. She argued saying that it was her life and if the gods didn't like it, they needed to get over it. That led to full-blown argument, which led to Kagome's now 20 year-old** but still little brother, Sota Higurashi, inheriting the shrine of his own free will, leaving Kagome to become the fashion designer she is now. She does visit the shrine sometimes to see her family and spend some time with them. She often shows them the designs she comes up with, basically making them the first people to see what they look like before they're on sale or the runway. Her mother has even come up with a few outfits that have made big in fashion magazines. She still helps her grandfather and Sota around the shrine, too. Nobody really knows what type(s) of spiritual powers she has (well, beside herself, of course) since she only uses them if necessary. Personally most people really don't want to know since she has an incredibly high level of spiritual powers.

Miroku on the other hand, while he does have spiritual powers, it's only at normal level. Now, he was once a priest at the Temple of Midoriko till he was eighteen. Well, he calls himself a monk. The head priest err…monk, Mushin Nishimoto, he's uncle, trained him in ways of the Buddha so he's actually a monk not a priest. Unlike Kagome's grandfather, Monk Mushin was very encouraging when Miroku left the temple and told him to pursue his dreams, which had him end up as the perverted assistant we all know and love. How he didn't end up gay like most male fashion designers or assistants is a mystery to a lot of people***. It probably had something to do with all the women around him giving him the opportunity to grope them or hit on them whenever he wanted but you never really could tell with him. One minute he'd be serious and the next he be grabbing whatever human female ass he could reach.

“Oh shut up! You may be smart when you want to be but be careful where you run your mouth!” she scolded quietly.

Kagome and Miroku, as well as many other people with spiritual powers didn't want people to find out about the fact they had those abilities. A lot of people could force them to do what they want. Police departments could take them away from the jobs that they want and love to do and make them do something they don't care about (`Besides it's not like they don't have enough people with spiritual powers up there in those crappy departments' Kagome mused in her head.). They could also suspect that they did particular crimes that can't be explained (`Hey! There are is over 6.2 billion people in this world and one of the 1/10 of them with spiritual powers could grab the next plane to wherever to make their dashing escape!' Kagome shouted in her head to no one in particular.).

“Arrrrgh! He did it again, didn't he!?” sounded a feminine and rather angry voice from the doorway.

Turning to the doorway, Kagome and Miroku came face to face with their best friend, Sango Taijiya. Sango was wearing a dark and light pink colored blouse with a long green skirt and black high-heels. Her brown hair, tinted with light brown, was brought up in a mid-ponytail. Her dark brown eyes were framed with pink eye shadow. Sango was kind of masculine for a woman due to her training in the martial arts and her instructing at her own dojo.

“Don't worry Sango-chan. I took care of him. There's no need for you to exhaust yourself with him.” Kagome stated before the black belt could pound her assistant/friend into oblivion.

“Ah! My darling Sango! How beautifully exquisite you look this fine afternoon!” Miroku exclaimed as he got up from his perch on the floor and walked over to the flustered woman.

“Oh, can it, you perverted monk.” She shot angrily, despite her blush from the compliment. “Besides you probably said that to all the women you saw today.” She whispered in disappointment, turning her back to the assistant.

“Not a one my lovely Sango. And even if I had you would surly be the most beautiful one I've seen today.” He said rather seriously but still eyeing her presented bottom.

Sango turned an even brighter shade of red from the seriousness of his voice and the compliment. Now she was really glad he couldn't see her face at the moment. “Miroku I…” She never got to finish due to a hand on a particular part of her body.

Face flaming with anger and embarrassment and fist clenched she turned around and slapped him across his cheek, leaving a known red handprint in the particular place.

“When are you ever going to learn your lessons?! Your lucky it was my open palm and not my fist!” She yelled at the grinning monk.

“My dear Sango. How do expect me to resist such an open opportunity to caress your delicate behind?” That was followed by another slap across the other cheek leaving a twin for the first handprint.

“Arrrgh! Hentai!” She shouted, glaring angrily at the man with fire in her maroon eyes.

`Ahhhh. They really do love each other. Too bad they're just sometimes too pig-headed to realize it.' Kagome couldn't help but think with a smile as she watched Sango scolding Miroku for his perverted ways and him still grinning like an idiot.

It was true, of course. Miroku and Sango were madly in love with each other but couldn't say it for fear of rejection. Sango didn't think Miroku liked her the way she liked him because he always went after other girls and not only did it fill her up with jealousy, envy and anger, but it also crushed her heart to see the man she loved with her heart and soul go after other young women. Miroku however, was a different story. He thought Sango didn't like him because she always slapped him for getting a feel of her ass (which is perfectly understandable). But the only reason he goes after young women was so he could make her jealous (and because he can't help it).

Kagome mentally sighed. There were a lot of guys that would kill to be with her. But the only reason they wanted to `be with her' in the first place was because of the money they could make off of her from marrying her and her looks. She wanted someone who wouldn't love her because of her money, how famous she is or her looks (but it wouldn't kill someone if they could compliment her on how good she looked every now and then), but because of her heart, spirit, soul and for who she is. `But there probably aren't a lot of guys out there like that, huh?' She thought with another mental sigh before she added with a mental smile, `Well…all except for one…'

“Well, now that that dilemma is over, we have to get back to business and Sango-chan?” Kagome said grabbing the woman's attention, “I'm sorry, but I can't hang out with you today. We kind of have a problem at the moment.” She said sadly.

“What's wrong, Kagome-chan?” Sango asked worriedly.

“It appears twelve of our designs have ended up missing and they are suppose to be delivered to Okinawa today,” Miroku stepped in, leaning on a nearby table, now serious, “If they're not sent to Okinawa in the next 10 minutes, we'll be in deep trouble.”

“Oh, Kagome-chan. Don't worry, I'll help you.” Sango said with a smile.

“Thanks Sango-chan.” Kagome said. She gave her friend a hug as they started searching for the clothes again.

“Having trouble, guys?” asked an amused voice from in the doorway.

They turned to see a women with hip-length, black hair with white highlights, brought up into a pony-tail, wide artic wolf eyes (really pale blue) and wearing a white tank top, dark blue jeans and high-heeled boots, smirking playfully at the people in front of her.

“Inuami-chan! What are you doing here?” Kagome exclaimed hugging her friend.

“We were let out early and thank the Kami above, too. I think my brain was going to fry just looking at those damn test tubes.” She laughed, massaging her aching shoulder from hunching over all day.

Inuami worked at a science lab in the center of the city called “Miasma corps.” She got into the job, no sweat, with her intelligence and skills in all sciences and math. She was incredibly smart in all her subjects in all her schools, too. While she was intelligent, she was beautiful, really funny and liked to joke around with her friends. She gave really good advice to people with problems in life and it helped them out, too. She was really good at mimicking voices and sounds. She was pretty good at disguises and distractions, too, when ever she got into any mischief in school.

“Oh, and as for your outfits, they should be going down the runway, worn by some rich, cocky supermodel by now.” She smirked at her shocked friends.

“…Wait you mean…” Kagome stuttered.

“I boxed them and brought them to the post office this morning before I went to work.” She answered Kagome's unspoken question with female pride.

Multiple sighs of relief were heard through out the room and the group of four realized that the staff was listening to their conversation the whole time. They turned around to see that the workers were either slumped in a chair or sitting on the floor.

Kagome chuckled at her staff, “I think that's enough work for today, you can all relax since there's really nothing more we can do.”

That caused the ones in the chairs to let their heads fall on the decks and the ones on the floor to fall on their backs, multiple groans escaping them.

That made the group laugh at the employees' antics. Suddenly Inuami exclaimed “Oh I just remembered the reason I came here in the first place.”

The other three turned to look at her as they all took a seat so she continued, “I got my boss to agree to letting me give you guys my own personal tour of Miasma Corps tomorrow morning, now am I awesome or what?” she explained with a cocky smile.

“Oh, that is so cool, Inuami-chan! Did you get to see his face?” asked Sango.

Inuami had never seen her boss's face before even if she had been in his office. He always had his chair turned toward the large windows in his office so the visitors only saw the back of his chair. He always had the lights off in his office giving where ever he sat an eerie shadow since light came through the windows, no matter what time it was in the day. She only said that the guy gave her the creeps and she would hate to have to go in his office again.

“Nah and to be honest, I don't care whether or not I ever see his face. The guy gives me a bad feeling anyway. Kind of like he's hiding something really important that he doesn't want anyone to know or find, it makes me really worried, too” Inuami answered waving her hand back and forth with a expression between suspicious and worry.

The others started to get worried, too. Inuami, for some strange reason, could sense when someone was trouble or when he or she was safe. Nobody really could explain it, but whenever she sensed someone was dangerous it usually turned out true. This sixth sense bought her the title `Guard Dog' in junior-high, high school, college, and even now. So, if her boss really was hiding something important, it could really mean trouble for the small group if they went.

“Oh, you guys better not have anything planned tomorrow since this going to be all day and this is a one time only deal, so make up your minds, now.” She said seriously, while looking at them as if daring them to question her.

`Well, when she says it like that it's kind of hard to refuse,' Kagome mused in her head while an animated sweat drop appeared on her head.

“Well, me and Miroku have nothing here to do tomorrow so I guess we can go, right, Miroku?” he nodded in answer, “What about you Sango-chan?” she asked as she looked at the fighter.

“I got nothing planned, so I'm coming, too.” She said with a smile.

“Alright! We're going on our own personal field trip.” Laughed Miroku, finding his joke really funny.

The others just shook their heads and smiled.

After a long drive in her Ferrari****, Kagome came into the driveway to her home. She had enough money to buy a mansion, but she liked simple things, except for the car. She really liked the rush of speed and the wind in her hair when she drove it. She bought a three-story home that looked like a summer get-away complete with: six bedrooms (with closets), four bathrooms, a kitchen, a laundry room, an entertainment room, living room, three spare bedrooms (for guests), two storage rooms, a study room, a back porch and front porch (with those swinging benches), and a swimming pool. But what she bought that was big was the forest behind the house.

She owned the whole forest; yet, she did nothing to change it. All she really did was put a gate that went up to your stomach with an entryway, around the forest to keep wild animals in.

Getting out of her car she made her way up the steps and across her porch. She took out her keys and slipped them into the lock. The process of that created a rattling through out the house and Kagome smiled as she heard the pitter-patter of paws in her house. She opened the door to reveal an adorable 3 month-old puppy also known as a Shiba Inu*****. The puppy was running around and yipping with joy to see its master/friend come home.

“How's my little girl? Have you been good for me today, Luna-chan?” Kagome cooed.

The question was answered by an excited and happy barking from the little Shiba, who was now jumping on her hind-legs, wanting to be picked-up by her master.

Kagome giggled at the display of cuteness the puppy showed. She gently picked up the furry creature as if it were about to break. Luna snuggled into the warmth of Kagome's neck and chest. Kagome smiled at the now sleeping puppy in her arms.

When she first saw the little bundle of love, it looked so sad and scared. She found out that she was newly brought in, meaning she was taken from her mother when it was so young and brought into a new place making it scared and sad that it won't be able to see its mother. When Kagome was told this, she immediately wanted to buy her. She was told she didn't have to pay. At the time, she thought it was because she was famous, but when she told the clerk what she assumed and would refuse to buy her unless she paid like everyone, she was, in all honesty, not expecting the answer. It seemed as cute as the Shiba was, the depressed atmosphere surrounding it and the consistent growling it did to people it didn't like, kept people from buying her and buying the happy, energetic puppies. So the manager suggested that whoever bought the sad puppy shouldn't have to pay for her as long as she got a good home and was happy.

Hearing this, Kagome immediately promised she would give it all the love she could. The clerk smiled and got a cage and the supplies for the Shiba. She had told Kagome what the puppy liked to eat, how to take care of it and if they needed anything else they could always come back for more supplies or a check-up if the puppy wasn't feeling good. With that they went on their way to their new happy lives.

Weeell, it didn't start out happy.

The first week little Luna came to Kagome's house, she almost destroyed it (theoretically speaking). She broke vases, glass plates and glass cups (cheap ones). She left `accidents' all around the house. She would even snarl and snap at Kagome.

And through all that, Kagome showed it love and adoration (of course she would scold it for being bad) and Luna eventually returned that with the same love.

It was getting late, and for some strange reason she wasn't hungry, which is weird since she usually really was after work.

`Wait a minute!' She mentally smacked herself. She had dinner with Sango right after Kagome got out of work. She had been so busy thinking about Inuami's `tour'-as she called it-that she must have forgot about it. `Oh well.' She sighed and went upstairs to her room.

Her room was quite ordinary, actually. She had a queen-sized bed, fit for two or three people (Miroku had bought it as a present for her birthday), with red sheets, a bookshelf with various types of novels, journals, sketchbooks, and even some manga for enjoyment, a nightstand with a red alarm clock and red lamp set on it, a desk in the corner with a swivel chair pushed into it. A full-length mirror stood a few feet away from the side of the book self and two sliding closet doors connected to each other, hiding many clothes and items behind them.

She laid Luna at the end of her bed seeing how she wasn't going to wake up anytime soon. Kagome looked out the window and noticed the sun was setting just below the horizon, now rapidly becoming night. She decided if she was going to bed she might as well get a shower.

She opened the door quietly so as not to wake the little Luna and closed it just as silently. She made her way down a hall and took a right to a cream colored door. She went into the white colored bathroom, grabbed a towel, and stripped out of her clothes. She quickly turned on the shower to a reasonable temperature and stepped into the steaming water. She didn't take too long in the shower since she started feeling drowsy. She turned of the spray, wrapped the towel snuggly around her petite but curvy form, and made her way back to her room.

When she reentered her room, she found that Luna was still sleeping causing an animated sweat drop to appear-she honestly had no idea how the pup could sleep that long without waking up.

Still being as quiet as possible, she dropped the towel and grabbed her favorite pair of puppy pajamas. Having put those on, she turned out the lights and dove under the sheets without waking Luna. Before Kagome fell into slumber, she couldn't help but wonder what the lab will be like and had this sudden feeling of excitement course through her, almost making her unable to sleep.

She didn't want to stay up the whole night because of being anxious to go to the lab. She wanted to dream about the sliver-haired man that had been constantly invading her sleep. Not that she wanted him to go, far from it actually. The man was so sweet to her and took care of her like a loving husband. He seemed too real to be a dream, but what was strange she couldn't see his face and he had two triangles on the top of his head--but she assumed it was part of a strange hairstyle he had. When she told Sango about it, she thought it was romantic, even if she playfully teased her a little bit and the same happened with Inuami. The real reason she doesn't go out with other men is because of the golden-eyed man and the fact that she thinks--no, that she knows he's real makes her basically off-limits to other guys.

Pushing down that overwhelming excitement, she fell into the world of dreams were her sliver-haired lover awaited.

Kagome found herself staring out a window, framed with silk curtains, pulled back to show a luminous full moon. She couldn't help but stare in awe at the beautiful sphere that lit up the dark night.

Suddenly, she felt strong yet gentle and soft arms wrap around her waist and pull to a very hard, male chest. She gasped lightly as she felt the man behind nuzzle his nose into her hair and breathed deeply, taking in the scent of her shampoo.

She blushed cutely when she felt one of his hands gently rub her side—dangerously close to her breast.

“You always…smell…so…gooood,” she heard the man whisper quietly in his familiar low, growling voice. If she didn't know better, she would have sworn his last word sounded like a contented growl.

She whimpered lightly in response and she felt him smile softly into her hair. She felt one of his arms move from its resting place on her waist and move behind her. She felt her hair being moved away from her left shoulder and tossed over her right. A few seconds passed before she felt warm lips press to her skin in the form of a gentle, loving kiss. She gasped as warmth raced through her body from her shoulder and back, making her tingle all over. She felt him start to give her butterfly kisses all over her shoulder, side of her neck and the back of it until they turned into open-mouth kisses, light licks and nips, causing her to tremble in his arms and pant softly-her neck always was sensitive.

She could feel his gentle, warm breathe on her shoulder and neck as he continued his attacks on her. When he gently suckled on her pulse-point she couldn't hold back the quiet moan that escaped her, but she knew he could hear it since he was so close to her.

She noticed her vision beginning to get fuzzy. She knew the time she was currently spending with him would come to an end real soon and she even noticed his grip on her had tightened somewhat; as if he also knew they was about to depart. She quickly turned her head to see if she could see his face before her dream turned into reality.

Once again, even with the light of the moon and in all of her other dreams, she still couldn't completely see his face. All she could see was the silver of his hair shining in the moonlight, his glazed golden eyes sparkling with love, adoration and…and…desperation?

He moved closer to her face as he whispered, “Please…help me…save me…heal me…love me…”

She was confused for a moment at what he said before his lips met hers in a gentle kiss to which she returned fully as her vision faded into blackness.
