InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Failure ❯ Dreams Coming to an End pt. 1 ( Chapter 7 )
[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
A/n: I've been having some difficulty writing the last few chapters, because I want them to flow perfectly together. That may be aiming for high hopes, but I have been pretty pleased with my story until now. The plot behind the story is starting to develop very decently, much to my surprise, since I really had no idea what I wanted to do with my story. Anyway, enough jibber-jabber… let's get started, shall we?
Disclaimer: My date Inuyasha left me on the dance floor for some chick named Rumiko Takahashi… *sobs*
Chapter VII: Dreams Coming to an End pt. 1
Inuyasha found himself lingering around… which was much unlike him… Right now, he was walking… and Inuyasha couldn't remember the last time he had walked to get someplace…
He was taking his sweet time. Because in all reality, he didn't want to go to Kikyo…
He never fully realized when his mind changed about it all… or when his heart changed… until when he finally put his foot down and started toward Kikyo and their `destiny' together.
And every fiber in his being was retaliating against him at that moment, trying to divert his path back to Kagome. He had walked around in a circle a few times when he wasn't paying attention, as if his mind was also subconsciously against his decision.
He wasn't supposed to make it any harder on himself than it already was, damn it! The only reason he remotely was going of some free will was because his principals and morals hadn't backed out on him yet, but they were just about a hair's breath away from doing so…
Who's gonna protect Kagome…?
Inuyasha sat down miserably for the umpteenth time that very morning, running both clawed hands through his hair and growling very loudly to himself…
This is going to be a long trip…

(Back at the Goshinboku…)
Kagome whimpered, reaching a hand out blindly for some warmth… some sort of warmth she was missing. And it being gone was all wrong… All very, very wrong… Letting out a pitiful whine again, she tossed and turned a bit on her side until the absence of that warmth drove her mind into wakefulness.
She sat up and blinked, trying to will the fuzziness and brightness of the morning sun away from her vision… She looked around, trying to place her surroundings and the reason WHY she was not in her warm bed in her own bedroom, but instead on the forest floor next to the Goshinboku…
Then last night's events came storming through her mind, causing her to gasp as if a bucket of cold water had been poured onto her…
…oooohhh…
Kagome absent-mindedly pulled the haori Inuyasha had left her closer to her body, the movement catching her attention as the bright red was spotted from the corner of her eye.
So…
Inuyasha had left his haori with her, and left her alone… much to her annoyance… but she guessed he was off hunting…
Something's not right, though…
She stood up, trying to ruffle and comb her fingers through (to her dismay) her filthy and greasy hair… She probably looked like she had gone through hell and back. She wrinkled her nose, troubled, and decided to head back to the village… he must have been there, stopped there at least…
He had to have headed there… he had to have…

(In Kaede's Village…)
If Sango didn't stop pacing, she was going to drive Miroku up the wall.
“My dear Sango, I'm sure Kagome is just fine… I'm sure she either when to a hotspring this morning before we woke up, or went out late last night and ran into Inuyasha.”
Sango glared at the houshi, and much to his disappointment… did not stop in her efforts to leave a hole in the floor.
“How can you be so calm at a time like this, Miroku?!” She had snapped at him… intentionally, or unintentionally, Miroku wasn't sure. But he waved his hands in the air defensively, his eyebrow twitching slightly, “Because, dearest Sango, I have faith in my friends and their abilities to take care of themselves.”
Miroku's conviction did not ease Sango's distress one bit. “But Kagome's been so upset lately! I'm sure she hasn't been thinking clearly…”
Miroku sighed and stood, addressing her respectfully to show his sincerity, “Sango-sama… Kagome has learned to survive a great deal before. She is a strong willed, and not to mention kind individual… I have the utmost faith in her and Inuyasha…”
Sango just couldn't understand… yeah, she trusted her friends and all… but that didn't stop her from worrying… She hadn't seen Inuyasha in a few days, and now Kagome was suddenly gone… what was the deal with those two?
As if the heavens had heard their discussion, the hut door opened to reveal Shippo who was glowing, and Kagome who was barely recognizable under all the dirt and filth she had acquired, and looking rather disconcerted.
“Speak of the devil…” Miroku had muttered nonchalantly, as Sango brushed past him to grab hold of the grimy girl. Sango hugged her so hard that Kagome thought Sango might crack her ribs…
“Kagome-chan!”
“…Sango-chan…” Kagome sputtered a bit.
Sango looked at her, worried all over again. “What is it, Kagome? What's wrong?”
“…I can't breathe…” Sango blinked and pulled back, as Kagome winced and rubbed her sides and huffed for breath a bit.
This caused Sango to blush a bit, as she then turned her head to Miroku, who had laughed, rather bemused.
Once done chuckling, he had given her an obvious `I told you so' look, and she shot back a `shut up, or you die' look.
Kagome seemed oblivious to it all, as her eyes seemed to search the room for something in particular.
“Where's Inuyasha?”
All present in the room stared at her blankly.
“…Not here… he hasn't been for a couple of days… you know that…”
Kagome felt the uneasiness in her chest soar in massive heights.
Kagome scrambled outside, falling to her knees and shaking a napping Kirara awake. Sango, Miroku, and Shippo followed her outside, staring at her in confusion.
“Kirara! I need your help!” Kirara yawned, opening one eye at Kagome and meowing hoarsely, transforming to her larger self as if reading Kagome's mind in her need for travel.
Sango stuttered a bit, “Wait… Kagome-chan, what are you doing?” Kagome hopped on Kirara's back, looking at Sango apologetically. “I'm sorry! I have to go find Inuyasha! I afraid something's very, very wrong…!”
Shippo jumped up, waving his tiny arms at her in a demand to be picked up. “I want to go too!” Kagome shook her head in the negative. “Not now, Shippo-chan, I'm sorry…”
She pushed on Kirara a bit, who started to run off and took into the air. She heard Sango calling her name, and telling her to be safe… but in her heart all that mattered right then was getting to Inuyasha before it was too late…
A/n: I know it's short… It's kind of a filled chapter… I need it to be there, though... ^_^ I'm sorry again… and thank you so much for all the support, guys!
Haha, and Madoise, I'm sorry to disappoint you! ^_^! Maybe one day he'll get it right!
