Fallen Misery: Chapter 4

Nothing is Foreseen

The phone rang at the Higurashi's home at noon that Saturday afternoon. Sota ran from the dining table and answered the phone.

"Hello? Higurashi residence." Sota heard the raspy voice of a man whisper into the other line and ask for his mom. "Ok, hang on just a second." He called to his mom and handed her the phone.

"Yes, this is Mrs. Higurashi. How can I help you?" She waited for an answer and then heard the man clear his throat and say over and over that he was sorry and that he couldn't stop her from doing it. "What and who are you talking about? And who is this?" Her face turned from a wondering expression to one that only defined sadness and shock. "No . . . this can't be correct . . .she can't be . . .no . . ." She whispered as her knees buckled and she fell to the floor crying. "WHO IS THIS!?" She yelled in the phone demandingly.

"This is . . .this . . ." He couldn't bring himself to say it and when he finally did, she got there before him.

"Inuyasha . . ." She whispered. He bit his lip and looked away from the phone. Then decided it would be best if he left her alone to her thoughts and hung up.

Now Inuyasha was on his way to find Jenai. She had pierced his stomach with one of either Kikyo's or Kagome's arrows, a bloody hole now resided in place of the arrow. It was a good thing that Kagome had taught him how to use the phone a while before the accident, she had taught him many things about her world. By going through the well and to the future he had been able to use the phone and inform her mom about Kagome's painful demise. He now wandered the woods trying to find at least the scent of where she had been. It was only when he came to the next village that he found it, but her scent wasn't alone. It was musked by the smell of large amounts of blood. Inuyasha stepped within one of the huts and the smell almost immediately overpowered him. He stumbled back out only to bump into something that had been swinging. As soon as he laid his eyes upon it he turned his away in great disgust. There, swinging before him had been a villager hanging by their feet and their head missing, their blood dripped to the ground to form a small puddle. It was then that he noticed that many people were hanging from trees by their necks, feet, heads, or arms and some of them had their skin peeled from head to toe right down to the bone. He walked through the village and Jenai's scent grew stronger alongside with his hatred for her as the number of dead people grew.

He then came to the village gate and saw a shadowed figure standing there motionless.

"It's about time Inuyasha, I was beginning to worry when you would get here." The creature of the night was waiting for him to come closer to her, to his death. She was covered head to toe in blood. "Sorry, I didn't get a chance to wash off before you came. Like my masterpiece? Its beautiful isn't it? It was fun to create, too." Jenai laughed evilly and stepped slowly towards Inuyasha.

"Jenai, you have misunderstood, I do not want to become more powerful as Sesshomaru does. Besides, you're the most miserable and despicable creature I have ever laid eyes on and for that I would not want nor need your vampiric blood. I am fine with the strength I have now using the Tetsusaiga." He unsheathed his sword and held it proudly in front of him. "Now, go back to the pits of hell where you came from!" Inuyasha charged at her, blocking the bullets she shot at him. Jenai jumped above him when he tried to cut her in half. She flew over the gate and outside of the village leading Inuyasha along behind her. Inuyasha heard rushing water; a river. `What is she going to do? Drown me? I doubt she will be able to.' Inuyasha thought as he gained speed running after Jenai.

"So, Inuyasha you're not going to transform for me?" Inuyasha skidded to a stop at the edge of the water and tried to comprehend what she meant. Looking into the water had sort of hypnotized him, he shook his head clear and leapt into the water to get to her. All of a sudden it got foggy and hard to see. He squinted, trying to find where Jenai had disappeared in the sudden curtain of fog. Her scent came from overhead only a second later and then he was pushed underwater. He didn't notice that the Tetsusaiga slipped from his hand. When he tried to come up for air, a thin sheet of ice had layered itself over the surface.

"Aww, the poor doggy is gonna drown." Jenai laughed settling herself on top of the spot where he had been trying to get out. Inuyasha could barely hear her, the ice was getting thicker and thicker. He was running out of time and air. He began to feel life slowly slipping from his grasp. He let out his last breath; then heard his heartbeat get not only slower but loud in his ears. Then darkness, once again, surrounded him completely.

Oh no! Inuyasha is on the brink of death...again! I guess you'll have to see if he lives or not in the next chapter...which should be coming soon, I hope. *Makes a little sticky note to remind herself to get started on chapter 5 right away! * PLEASE REVIEW!
