"Where are the ladies?" asked Miroku.

"In that poor excuse for a hut," Inuyasha answered.

"You sure are edgy."

"If you knew Sango's story, you would be too," he said pointing at the memorial stone which Sango had but a moment ago payed her respects to her family. "To know that Naraku ruined her life and all that she held dear reminds me of...what I lost."

"Kikyou?"

"...Among other things..."

Miroku was in utter disbelief. Here was Inuyasha, sympathizing with Sango and he himself didn't even show that he cared. Miroku cursed himself, and at the moment felt like flinging himself over a cliff.

"I know of her story," he said. "She just told me."

"She did, did she?" asked Inuyasha. "Well that goes to show her trust in you I guess. What did you do?"

"I...made a move on her but she just pushed me away."

"You did what?!" he exclaimed punching him. "What the hell were you thinking monk!" He laid another punch on him. "She tells you all that and you go and...damn it Miroku you really are full of shit."

"I know," he asnwered rubbing the side of his face, "but that doesn't bother me as much as the fact that she now hates me."

"She fuckin hates you! La-la-la-la! You tried to hard and then she tore your feelings like ya had none!"

Miroku, suprised that he had broken out in song looked at him oddly. "What was that?"

"I dunno, Kagome was singing it one day to herself and it seemed appropriate at the moment."

"You know, that actually made sense."

Kagome and Sango emerged from the 'poor excuse for a hut.' Sango's eyes were empty, but as soon as she spotted Miroku, they were flamed with anger. Kirara, who was perched on her mistress's shoulder, gave Miroku a look that said, 'Don't do anything you're gonna regret.'

"Lady Sango I-"

"The sun is low," Sango interupted him. "We could have gone to the next villiage instead of wasting our time here, Monk."

'Dammit,' he thought, 'we're back to the Monk bid again. "I had-"

"We'll sleep there for the night," she said indicating the hut she and Kagome had emerged from. "It's best that we wake early so we can leave promptly. I'm going to hunt some dinner."

"Lady Sango!"

Within a blink of an eye Miroku was starring at the tip of the samurai's sward between his eyes. At the other end, a deadly poised Sango held the blade.

"I've told you before," she gritted through her teeth. "Do not address me as Lady. Do not make me repeat myself again."

"You are a lady are you not?" he asked. "I should hope so."

"I'm warning you."

"It's so appropriate for such a-"

At that moment, Miroku's face met the dirt after Sango slammed him in the ground. After a kick to his stomach that flew him several yards away, Sango walked off. Shippou, who had been playing some distance away, came to the motionless monk.

"I think he's dead," he declared after poking him with a stick.

Miroku spat out a mouthful of dirt. "I might as well be."

"When will you learn Miroku?" Inuyasha scolded.

"It's completely hopeless. I've lost her."

"You never had her to begin with," said Shippou.

"Don't be too sure," said Kagome. "Although she was furious and had a sword pointed to your head, she could've killed you. However, she chose not to."

"Where are you headed with this Kagome?" asked Inuyasha.

"Sango's all talk when it comes to Miroku, with the occasional beating. But none of his wounds are fatal and he doesn't end up bleeding. She slays demons, killing is no problem for her."

"But she didn't kill Miroku," said Inuyasha, putting two and two together. He then nodded his head. "I understand."

"Good for you because I sure don't!" Miroku exclaimed, getting quite impatient that he was missing something important.

Inuyasha and Kagome looked at Miroku and replied at the same time, "She loves you."

Miroku fell over anime style. "W-what? Are you sure?"

"Hey," said Kagome, "I'm a woman. I know these things."

Miroku popped up beside Kagome, "I know very well you're a woman."

Kagome slapped him, "Rule number one: Stop hitting on other girls."

"Rule number two: Don't get Kagome and/or Sango mad."

"Damn straight you don't."

Meanwhile in a place out of sight two figures watched the certain events unfolding.

"Things couldn't be more in our favor. Once they have collected all of the jewel shards, we shall simply take it from them."

"What's the next phase?"

"Send the dream demon. Once he has weakened them, you move in."

Sesshoumaru nodded, although he had no intention of doing exactly as Naraku had instructed. He still had some unfinished business to attend to.

That night, when all was asleep, Sango sneeked away into the woods away from the villiage. She came to a lake that she remembered she had often came to when she was a little girl. Oh the relaxing swims she reveled in on those days! The water was calm, and a beautiful moon hung in the sky, illuminating the lake. She sat there, transfixed at the calming beauty she beheld.

"Couldn't sleep?"

Sango jumped and whirled around only to see Miroku. She snapped out her reply, "What do you want!"

"Well," he said quite calmly sitting beside her, "I saw that you were gone, got worried, and went looking for you. Besides, if you recall, we used to have those late night talks."

"Key words: used to. For once in your life, just go away and leave me alone. I have enough on my mind already."

"I followed you here for a reason."

"Why?! So you can hit on me again?!"

"No, to express my apologies. Lady Sango, I'm so sorry for taking advantage of you in this difficult situation. Please remember I'm but a man, a man that is overwhelmed with strong emotions-"

"That's enough," Sango said, afraid of what he was to say next. "I'll forgive you, for now. Who knows when you'll try to grope me, or someone else."

"You don't trust me?"

"How do you expect me to do that when you're starring at women left and right and drooling over them."

"I don't drool."

"Do so!"

"Do not!"

"Do so!"

Miroku laughed. "If you say so, then that only means that you're always watching my every move huh?" He smiled devilishly and winked.

Sango slapped him, "Shut up!" Feeling she had to change the subject she said, "This was my sanctuary when I wanted to get away from it all. Like now."

"How's that?"

"I can't sleep. The nightmares of what happened haunt me even worse now that I'm here. That's why I rarely sleep anymore."

"Forgive me for saying, but that's unhealthy."

"I've done so many things that have been unhealthy for a woman for a long time." She fiddled with the patterns on her kimono. "By the way, I never did thank you for your generous gift."

"You're welcome, Lady Sango."

Sango raised her hand to hit him, but the monk quickly caught her hand and held it firmly.

"Let go!" she hissed.

"Why? So you can hit me again?"

Sango lifted her other hand to strike again, but that also failed as Miroku took both her hands and kissed each of them.

"Why do you dislike it when I call you Lady, my Sango?"

"I told you. I don't want to be treated special when I'm not the only one receiving it."

"Jealous are you?" he said still kissing her hands.

Sango tried to pull away, "I said let me go!"

Miroku drew her close to him, in an instant, and she gasped, blushing. He was so close, and looking in her eyes that way of which she hated so much. The way in which she felt she could hide nothing from him and he could see all.

"I can't," Miroku replied in a husky voice.

That sudden change in his voice frightened her. Her heart was beating so fast she thought she'd collapse. One of his hands was on the small of her back while the other was roaming wildly on her ass. But she could do nothing, she was paralyzed in the gaze of his violet eyes, and she shuddered in pleasure of which she silently cursed herself.

"I love you, Sango," he whispered.

With that his lips gently brushed against hers. Sango felt felt a warm tingle as he started to nibble on her lips. Sango returned the gesture by returning the kiss. Miroku ran his tounge over her lips, begging for entry. Before she knew she had opened her mouth, and Miroku's tounge had dived in roughly in an all out battle with her own. Sango took the initiative to enter Miroku's mouth and he took advantage of that by sucking on her tounge. One of his hands was carressing her bottom while the other roughly kneaded her breast. Sango had pressed herself to him with her arms around his neck, hands running through his hair.

This was what she wanted! This is what she desired for so long deep within the confines of her own heart! Why had she held back, why had she been living within fear of what could or what would happen, when all she wanted to live for was right there before her.

The kiss took all air from their lungs, and they separated, panting. Miroku smiled as Sango blushed scarlet, her mouth hung open from shock.

"You are...magnificent!" Miroku breathed out.

"That she is."

Both jumped to their feet and looked to find Sesshoumaru, hovering above the water and coming towards them.

"I've known my share of demon slayers," he said, "but you stand out from all others."

"Why? Because I'm a woman?" she snapped.

Sesshoumaru wasn't impressed by this act of retaliation, and glared at her hard. She wasn't afraid of him? Oh, but that will soon change, he thought. He then turned to Miroku who interrupted his thoughts.

"What do you want!"

"That would be none of your concern," he said, casting him aside. Miroku landed several yards away from him and Sango.

"Miroku!" Sango called. She tried to get to him, but Sesshoumaru blocked her path.

"You intrigue me. The fact that you were able to cut off my hand shows that you have potential."

Sango drew her sword, "Come any closer to me, and your hand being cut off will be the least of your worries!"

Sesshoumaru had lost patience and in a burst of energy sent her flying into the trees. Sango cried out in pain, and could faintly hear Miroku calling out to her. She tried to answer, to recover from the pangs she felt at her side, but she suddenly felt tired. Her eyelids felt heavy and she found her energy lacking, struggling to stay awake and alert. Despite everything, she fell asleep.

~~~~~~~~~~
"Sango? Hey wake up!"
Sango jumped in surprise and starred at Kagome. Her friend stood there with her books in arm, concern written across her face.
"Are you feeling all right?" she asked. "You've got the biggest bags under your eyes!"
"Terrific, that's all I need," Sango grumbled.
"Hey Kgome, hey Sango," Inuyasha greeted.
While he gave Kagome the usual good-afternoon kiss, Sango just set her mind to opening her locker. To her dismay, an unwanted prescence made himself known on her ass.
"Oh Sango, why can't we be like that?"
Sango, didn't reply, she merely swung her locker door open, hitting Miroku in the face, got her books, and left with Kagome while Inuyasha helped Miroku once again to the nurse's office.
"Miroku sooo has the hots for you Sango. Why don't you go with him?"
"Cuz I don't need to. He's just a silly boy who's puberty lasted several years longer than usual."
"Oh come on!"
"He's a horny little devil. Now if he was more like Inuyasha, that's a totally different story."
"How do you mean?"
"Although Inuyasha is a bit possessive over you, at least he loves you and cares for you. Not to mention that he's definately someone you can depend on. Also, let's not forget the fact that he doesn't constantly try to grope you. The only thing is his temper."
"Oh, like you don't have a temper," Kagome retorted. "Especially just a moment ago when you knocked out Miroku."
"I did that in a very calm way. Besides, my locker door is always stuck so it needs a bit of extra effort."
Kagome evily smirked. "Ya know, I think you like it when he gropes you."
"WHAT?!" Sango exclaimed, trying to hide the blush that crept on her cheeks.
"He thinks to gorgeous, he wants to date you, he wants to touch you, lay down and fu-"
"STOP IT!"
"Okay it doesn't have to be laying down. It could be standing up while he has you pressed up against a wall."
"KAGOME!"
"In a chair."
"I'M WARNING YOU!!!"
"From behind."
Sango stopped walking and raised her books over her head to strike at Kagome. Kagome ran, giggling hysterically at Sango's failed attempts to hit her. This continued until they reached their science class. Inuyasha and Miroku came in late from the nurse's office. Soft laughter could be heard from the other students at the sight of Miroku holding an ice-pack to his forehead. They all knew why.
"You all right Miroku?" Kagome whispered.
"Nothing to worry about. Just the same cuncussion I recieve every day."
"It's a wonder you ain't dead yet," said Inuyasha.
"I believe he developed an immunity by evolving his head to be thicker," said Sango matter of factly. "If only his brain would evolve with it...that is, if he had one."
"Sango!" exclaimed Kagome. "What a mean thing to say!"
"The truth hurts Kagome," she shrugged.
Towards the end of class sensei made the announcement of the upcoming Science Fair.
"Contestants will be entered in pairs," he began.
"All right!" Sango and Kagome exclaimed, giving eachother a high-five.
"-of which I will assign."
"What?" shrieked Kagome.
"I object Sensei!" Sango said while rising. "Has there been any trouble in the past of me pairing with Kagome? Are not our grades in well standing? Are not we the perfect role models?"
"Maybe Kagome is," said Inuyasha, "but you're a different story. That is, unless you want to be in the WWF Smackdown."
"Shut up!"
"There is no problem, Miss Sango," said the sensei. "I feel that by separating you two, you will be aiding those who need assistance in their grades. Kagome will be paired with Inuyasha."
"Cool!" Kagome beamed.
"Hey, my grades are fine, thank you very much!" Inuyasha retorted.
"Do you really want to discuss your grades in front of the entire class Mr. Inuyasha?"
"Feh."
"As for you, Miss Sango, you will be paired with...let's see here. Ah yes, Miroku."
"WHAT?" the whole class exclaimed.
"I must object!" Sango protested.
"How could you do that?" asked a student.
"You just signed Miroku's death cirtificate," said another.
"Nice knowin' ya pal."
"Enough!" exclaimed the Sensei. "Sango, you will do as instructed."
"I refuse!"
"Then fail."
Sango stood a broken lawyer. She hung her head low in her defeat while clutching the ends of her desk. With a defeated sigh, she nodded, accepting her assignment.
It was lunch break....
"This is great!" Kagome exclaimed. "I get to be paired with Inuyasha! We'll be able to spend even more time together!"
"Forgive me for not being happy for you," Sango said bitterly.
"Oh cheer up Sango. It's not that bad."
Sango glared at her best friend, but then sighed. Changing the subject she asked, "You going to the formal with Inuyasha tonight?"
"Yep. I'm so excited! You going?"
"Formals are more of a thing for couples. I fly solo."
"Not necessarily. Why not go with Miroku? He's only been asking you for like the past...forever! It's not like you don't like him."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"That you like him. So what's the deal with not going with him?"
Sango didn't answer. She knew the reason for not doing as her heart told her. She didn't want to lose.
"Hey guys! Inuyasha, ready for tonight?"
"Yep, I'll pick you up at seven."
Miroku popped up beside Sango. "You going to the formal?"
"No," Sango sighed.
"Oh? And why not?"
"Got no one to go with."
"What? A classy girl like you has got no date?"
"She's refused all invitations from other guys," said Kagome.
"Yeah, but the one who got dissed the most was Miroku," said Inuyasha.
"Shut up," Sango muttered.
"Well, I still don't have a date either," Miroku said looking hopeful.
"Gee I wonder why. Maybe cuz you keep groping all the girls you ask."
"I've only asked you to go to the dance with me."
"W-what?" Sango blushed. "Why?"
"In the hopes of maybe you'll say yes. So, will you go with me to the formal as my date?"
'Oh why was this happening?' she thought to herself. Why and how was he breaking down her defenses with such ease? The only way to keep herself from giving in to such things would be to beat him. But now she found that she couldn't even do that! Maybe she was worrying to much, after all he was looking well. And so with as much dread she could muster she gave her reply.
"Why the hell not."
"What?" Inuyasha and Kagome exclaimed.
"WHAT?" went the whole lunchroom.
"Hey! Mind your own business and keep your nose out of things before each and every one of you will have their nose burried in pavement!" Sango demanded. Everyone turned around quickly. "That's what I thought."
Inuyasha and Kagome sweatdropped.
"R-really?" asked Miroku. "heh, oh my gosh, I...I'll pick you up at seven!" and with that he ran off, with a clear leap to his step.
"You said yes?" Inuyasha asked.
"Yeah, oh man what am I gonna wear?"
Kagome smiled. "Mall trip!"
~~~~~~~~~~

"Shall we move to the next phase, Lord Sesshoumaru?"

"No."

"Why? Is not that boy her weakness? We should press-"

"I will decide what should be done!" Sesshoumaru growled, his eyes tinting red. "Remember your place!"

The dream demon shrank back away from the Taiyoukai, apologizing repeatedly. 'The pathetic fool,' the lord demon thought. After a while, his eyes cooled and returned to its normal golden color. Normally, he would have killed him on the spot, but he still needed his powers.

"The girl is holding something still," he said. "Unless I find out what that is, we won't intervene just yet."

Sesshoumaru looked down on the bed at the sleeping Sango under the spell of the dream demon. Amazing how calm she can look while asleep. When she awoke, his plans would unfold, and such plans he had for her. He reached out a clawed hand and gently touched her warm, delicate face.

"Tell me your secrets," he said to her. "Tell me."

Sango's expression changed. Her face twitched and her eyelids fluttered. She groaned faintly and the Taiyoukai smiled. It would begin soon.
