BRIIIIIINNGGGG!!! BRIIIIIIIIIINGG!!!!

"M-moshi moshi?"

"Oh Sango! I'm so sorry! Did I wake you?"

Sango rubbed her eyes and yawned. "Kagome, it's friggin' 2:30 A.M.! Of course you woke me! What's the deal huh?"

"It's Miroku."

Sango was now fully alert. "What? What happened?"

"We'll explain on the way."

"We? On the way where?"

BEEEP BEEEEEEP!!!!

"Inuyasha and I are waiting outside in the car. Hurry and get dressed."

"Kagome, you're scaring me. What's going on?"

"Just do it!"

Before Sango could say another word, Kagome had abruptly hung up the phone. Sure, the thought of Kagome calling her at this time was questionable and that whatever was wrong with Miroku scared her to death. The fact that the happy-go-lucky Kagome sounded so anxious and worried had her nervous as well. However, she sounded so demanding and didn't even give her a chance to breathe before hanging up the phone...and then it hit her.

"Oh Kami, NO!"

Sango dropped the phone, quickly dressed in baggy jeans and an oversized sweatshirt and rushed out the door. Kagome was in the back of Inuyasha's car and as soon as Sango got in, Inuyasha drove off; the sound of tires burning rubber on the pavement enough to wake the dead.

"Kagome! What happened?" Sango asked frantically. "Is Miroku-"

"Sango I...we're going to the hospital."

Sango sank in her chair, eyes wide. "W-w-what? No it can't be! He was fine at the-"

"His cancer snuck back up on him again. I'm sure he felt fine but on the inside he was losing the battle for his life."

Kagome couldn't see her friend's face well, but in the faint glow of the bridge's lights she saw absolute terror at the realization of the unfair fate that was to befall Miroku.

"How...how long?" Sango chocked out.

Kagome shook her head. "The doctors don't know...not very long though."

Sango gave herself a moment to collect herself before she spoke again, "Speed up Inuyasha!"

"Sango, I can't-"

"Don't give me any load of shit tonight! Don't make me fuckin' throw you off this bridge! Now you either pull over and let me drive or you drive like the Demon of Evil was about to walk through the gates of hell to come for your soul!"

Sango looked dead serious and convincing, not to mention the fact that she had one of her trusty pocket-knives at his throat. 'The wench could pass as the Demon Goddess of all Evil,' thought Inuyasha as he slammed on the gas pedal.

Kagome was about to comfort her friend, to tell her it would turn out, but Sango held up her hand, indicating not to say anything. Sango wished for nothing more than Kagome's reasurring to be true, but that would put herself in denial. She knew the truth, Miroku would die, and there was nothing in hell she could do about it.

Sango leaped out of the car before Inuyasha had time to park in the hospital parking lot. She ran through the front doors and to the desk clerk who was on the phone.

"I'm looking for Houshi's room," Sango said.

"One moment ma'am..." She returned her attention to the phone, "So, what did he say then? No way! Get out! No way!"

"Hey bitch, listen to me!"

"I said-hey!"

Sango had ripped out the phone and threw it on the marbled floor, the noise vibrating off the plain, clean, walls. Everyone turned to see the commotion.

The brunette woman at the desk glared hard at Sango and retorted, "Who the hell do you think you are?"

Sango grabbed the clerk by the collar and lifted her over her desk. "I'm the one who's about to get your ass fired for being lax on the job and disregarding patients and other costomers!"

"B-back of or I-I'll call security!" studdered the clerk.

"Security? You mean those bums sleeping behind the cameras and at the front door? By the time they come I've sent you to hell already."

"There you are!" Inuyasha exclaimed running up to her with Kagome close behind. "Put the nice girl down and we'll go see the doctor."

"Nani?" Sango asked.

"It's all right miss," said Kagome, "she just had a bit too much to drink."

"Kagome!"

Kagome pointed at Inuyasha who was about to just pick up Sango and carry her over his shoulder and out the hospital. Sango growled before she litterally threw the clerk back in her chair.

"Oh, here's your phone." Sango tossed it to the clerk and it hit her in the head, causing her to pass out on the floor.

"What was THAT all about Sango?" asked Kagome.

"Bitch wouldn't give me information. Besides, I doubt she'll remember anything when she wakes up."

"Feh," Inuyasha mumbled.

They continued down the hall in silence. Sango was a wreck, constinuously fidgiting with her hands, eyes on the clean marble floor, wishing for all this to be a bad dream. They stopped at the door to Miroku's room.

"You go in. We'll wait for you."

"But Kagome-!"

"Go on, Sango," said Inuyasha.

They were making he go in there alone! It was bad enough that she was within hospital walls, but now she was to go in to see her beloved, whom was destined to die perhaps this very night. She couldn't do this by herself, it was just too much for her heart.

She walked in and saw Miroku sleeping in a bed with machines hooked on him. He wasn't her Miroku, but a droid, completely dependent on technology. She pulled up a chair and sat next to him, stroking his head. He looked so innocent when asleep, completely different from the lecherous man he could be. Slowly, Miroku opened his eyes, and a small smile formed on his lips.

"Sango?"

Sango clasped his hand. "Yes, yes I'm here."

"I'm...really sorry about...all this."

"No, no, I should be sorry." Her voice started to shake and tears were forming in her eyes. "I didn't give you a chance, I was so stubborn and when I finally confessed..."

"Don't say that Lady Sango. Don't have regrets."

"I don't, it's just...I should've-"

"I have absolutely no regrets. I knew that I would die, we all knew this day would come."

"But...but I don't want to lose."

"You never have lost, for you have won my heart. Although you might not have known it my lady, you've held my heart since the first day I saw you."

"You mean the first day you groped me."

Miroku laughed softly. "That did contribute."

This shattered her heart. He lay there looking so fragile and pale. His eyes no longer held that brilliant violet color, but now seemed a dull gray. He was leaving her, she would be alone...she'd die.

"Promise me, Sango, that one day you'll find someone to share your life with for all eternity."

"I already have."

"Let fate guide you-"

"Fate led me to you! But I no longer believe in it for why would it lead us together if destiny chose you to die?!"

"Because it was kind enough to allow me to find my true love."

"But what about me! It was kind to you but cruel to me, having you leave me, and I'll be alone again! Fate doesn't exist! Life can't be so cruel and unfair!"

As she spoke the tears that had gathered in her eyes started to drop one by one. Sango tried to fight them back, but the pain she felt was too great and she let the spill over onto her cheeks. Miroku brushed her tears away, and she caught hold of his hand, bringing it close to her face. She leaned into his warm touch and kissed his hand repeatedly.

"Please...don't cry.."

"Don't leave me! I love you Miroku!"

"...say it again," he said in a hushed voice.

"I love you."

"No, say my name, my love."

"Miroku."

To hear his name come from that beautiful mouth of hers that spilled out kisses so intoxicating to him, was more beautiful than an angel's voice. Then again, she was his angel.

"I love you...Sango..."

His hand slipped from her fae and fell, his soul leaving the last light from his eyes before they closed.

"No! No! Miroku! DON'T LEAVE ME!!! PLEASE! Miroku! MIROKU!!!!"

Sango tried to keep her lover with her in this world, to prevent him from leaving her. She clung to his arm, stroking his head, it was no use. She was overwhelmed by the flood of her tears of sorrow. Her heart gone, sent to the darkness of an eternal abyss. She had never felt such pain....but that one night...

"...the night your father and brother were murdered before your eyes..."

Sango opened her eyes, suddenly alert. She was no longer next to Miroku, no longer in the hospital. In fact, she had no idea where she was. She only saw darkness around her. She dared not take a step to venture out, for she didn't know if there was floor in front of her, and if there was, where would it end? Was she even within walls of a room?

"Who are you!" she demanded. "Show yourself!"

"I'm right here before you, within the darkness."

"Coward! You don't have the courage nor decency to reveal your form!"

"Actually my dear, I find it cunning, since I can strike at you, and you won't know from which direction I come from."

A small hooded figure appeared in front of her. She couldn't see his face, only the misshapened green hand that rose and pointed a claw at her.

"However," he said, "you are in my domain now, so watch your tounge."

There was a flash of light and once Sango's eyes adjusted, she found herself in a place she'd never thought she'd see. A place with people whom she thought never to see again. She was home.

"Sango! Come see the new technique Papa taught me!"

Sango stood there wide-eyed, her heart pounding. "K-Kohaku?"

"Not now Kohaku, it's getting late. Come inside now."

"Oh, all right Papa." Kohaku then ran up to Sango. "You've been gone a while, I missed you! Where've you been?"

Sango dropped to her knees and held her younger brother close to her. Was this for real? Was she actually holding him? She looked at his face and Kohaku cocked hs head slightly to the side and made a small smile.

"Oh Kohaku, I've been in a nightmare, trying to return home."

"...what makes you think that you have left the nightmare?.."

There was a sudden explosion and Sango was thrown back. When she rose she saw nothing but flames encircling the villiage. Her Papa and brother on the ground; dead. Sango stood within the flames, horrified at seeing the flames consume her home and her loved ones.

"Sango..."

Sango turned. "M-miroku? What are you-"

Miroku clasped her hands. "I came to be with you. I love you." He bent down and lightly kissed her soft lips.

"...I can easily create your dreams as I can crush them. You are at my will."

Miroku then cried out in pain,, clutching at his hand. He staggerd back away from Sango, crying out in agony.

"Miroku!" she cried.

He looked at her, the last sight he would ever see, and struggled to smile. The gound shook and the wind was in an uproar, as his curse made itself manafest and consumed him.

"NOOO!!!! Not again!" she cried falling to her knees. "NOT AGAIN!!!"

"...poor girl...you suffer don't you?...Not to worry...I'll put an end to your suffering-"

The dream weaver demon stopped in mid sentence at he felt a sudden pain in his stomach. He looked down, a daggar petruding through his flesh, and a bloody hand jabbing the blade deeper inside him. Sango's eyes flared and she dashed behind him with inhuman speed, grabbing him from behind.

"No one manipulates me! Especially filthy demons!"

And with that said she broke his neck swiftly and dropped the corpse on the ground. Removing the daggar, she wiped it clean before placing it back in her robes. She couldn't let the past haunt her anymore; not even in her dreams.

**********

Sesshoumaru stood stoic and calm while watching the Dream Weaver Demon die in his own trance. It didn't suprise him that the demon slayer killed him, she was very powerful for a mortal. His servents quickly and quietly carried the corpse away from the Taiyoukai's feet as he watched the girl, whom would soon wake from the spell. He now knew her fears and secrets, and he would use them against her...or so he thought...

Sango's head throbbed and she had trouble opening her eyes.

"What the hell?" she mumbled.

She went to put a hand to her head, but found that strangely difficult to accomplish. Why couldn't she move? In panic her eyes flashed open and discovered she was bound hand and foot to a large bed. She was no longer in her kimono, but in a white nightgown. Her guard was down and she had been captured.

"Oh shit!"

She tried to break free, but a sharp pain at her side prevented her from doing so. She then looked to her side with wide eyes. Sesshoumaru stood to the side with his arms crossed, face with no emotion. 'No,' she thought, 'This can't be...it-' Already shaken from her nightmare she panicked even more. Sesshoumaru's castle rang out with her frightened screams of oncoming peril.
