She didn't return into the darkness of Scarlet. Instead she left for home, sadness and hatred weighing heavily on her chest. As she approached the door to her apartment, she let loose the restraint on her emotions and ran into the house, desperately wanting to find Sango and Miroku there. Relief filled her heart as she saw the two standing there by the window, holding each other.
"Kagome!" Sango wheeled around and tears leapt from her brown eyes. The two women hugged each other fiercely, as if they hadn't seen one another in ages.
"You're all right. Gods, we thought you didn't make it out." Miroku said as he placed a hand on her shoulder, giving her a warm smile.
"Same here." Kagome whispered, breathing a little easier.

Two days went by, and within those two days, Kagome had found it difficult to sleep.
She paced her room, back and forth, back and forth in front of the tinted window. She paused when she heard Sango's worried voice.
"I'm worried about her Miroku. She's been distant lately."
"I am too but we have to let her deal with whatever's going on, on her own."
"I can't just stand around and do nothing! Why won't she open up? Why won't she talk to me, to us?"
"Because I'm afraid of what'll happen if I do." Kagome leaned against the wall in the darkened hallway. Nothing but a shadow carved in the faint light.
"Kagome…"
"You two have been so patient with me. To tell you the truth, you guys are really the only friends I've ever had. There are times when I feel I don't deserve you, that I wish I had never met you both, but then Sango, with your sweet words and Miroku, with your perverted charm," Kagome smiled to herself, sliding down onto the floor, "you two always manage to make my day brighter." She heard light footsteps come toward her and felt them both sit on either side of her.
"We've just been worried about you." Miroku whispered.
"I know and I'm sorry. I guess the truth is what happened two nights ago brought back old memories, but don't worry. Everything…everything's going to be okay." The words came out in soft murmurs and it was said more to herself than to her friends. Reassurance for herself, though she didn't feel reassured, not in the least.
A sigh escaped Sango's lips and her voice seemed to echo off the walls. "I won't push you any farther Kagome. But you'll come with us tonight, won't you?"
"I'm gonna go for a run, then come back and get some sleep. You two go and have your fun." Kagome stood up but paused, "Just…promise me that whatever happens, both of you will be happy."
"Promise." Miroku chimed in before Sango could even question the request.
Kagome gave them swift kisses on the cheeks and vanished.

She ran…and ran. Nothing but a blur to human eyes. Her inhuman speed took her away. Away from everything. This was release. Running was release. The feel of the stinging air lashing at her skin cleared her cluttered mind and gave her a sense of long awaited peace. She blocked out everything and just…ran.

Having taken a shower and donned a tank, pajama shorts and a black silk robe over, she was ready to sleep, to slip into a dreamless void.
But sudden cold, sudden freezing cold, crawled up her spine. The glass cup shattered on the floor while little drops of blood decorated it.
Kagome vanished.
And reappeared in her training room.
It was empty. Only dark emptiness. The windows that made up the walls revealed Tokyo. Living among the dead. The sky, a shade of indigo, a shade much like her own eyes, except hers now held a trace of gold. And flashed a shade of red.
"You've changed."
"And you haven't." Kagome was emotionless. A dangerous façade, a deadly one. He wasn't alone as she felt others appear within the room.
Naraku suddenly materialized behind her. "I've missed you." His breath cascading down her neck.
She shuddered and stepped away, turning around to face him.
"Beautiful as ever." He said taking a step forward.
"I don't belong to you. I never did."
"Don't forget who gave you eternal life Kagome."
"And don't forget who let you." Her anger grew with every word that was spoken. How dare he claim that she was his and still his? "I left you a long time ago Naraku. I'm not yours, I'm not anyone's."
He took a deep breath, calming down his rapid growing fury. She dared deny him, but then again, that was one of the things he loved about her. Her sheer defiance.
"Have it your way then."
Obsidian shadows flew at her, with speed that could only belong to vampires. She jumped up into the air and felt them collide beneath her. Kagome landed gracefully, her robe creating a black shroud around her. Two more flew towards her. Kagome's katana appeared in her hand, silver glinting as she unsheathed it. She quickly drove it into the vampire's chest, earning a painful blood-filled scream from him as he turned to nothing. Drawing on her magic, a sphere of blue escaped her palm and shot towards two others, knocking them to the ground. Her blood pumped as adrenaline coursed through her. The katana was poised and dared anyone to come and meet it.
Naraku smiled at Kagome as his hand went up to stop further attacks. "I will not have her marred."
He stalked forward, a predator on the hunt and she watched as his eyes flashed the same red with anticipation and lust. "You've been practicing I see."
He disappeared before Kagome knew it. She looked around, focusing her senses.
Left. Right. She blocked a blow by his sword and watched as orange sparks erupted. She blocked another blow and sent a wave of her magic at him. He countered with his own black wave. The impact sent a chill down her spine, but she didn't flinch. Their swords kissed violently again and her arm swiftly came up to uppercut him but he caught it, twisting it around painfully. Kagome kicked him in his stomach and she jumped up into the air but was instantly brought back down when Naraku grabbed her and slammed her onto the training room floor. She felt the air leave her body and was left gasping. Naraku coaxed her up with his sword point beneath her chin, snaking a muscular arm around her waist and pulling her harshly against his body. He wanted to let her know just what she did to his body whenever she was close.
"My dear Kagome, you can't win against me. I made you." He whispered in her ear and nipped at it gently. Taking the sharp edge of the blade, he softly pressed it against the ivory skin of her neck and drew a thin line of blood. He slowly made his way down to the rapidly overflowing cut but gasped when he was suddenly torn away from her body by her surge of power she emitted.
"Fuck you." She shook with barely contained rage.
"That won't be happening…yet anyway." He smirked, licking his lips. "Don't resist what you know your body wants."
"You have no idea what I want." she seethed, her power viciously rising.
"Kagome! Are you home?" No. No, Sango, Miroku, get out of here. Her eyes landed on the door but she knew it was a mistake to do so.
Naraku, using this brief moment to his advantage, slipped behind her and drove his fangs into the cut he made earlier. Kagome bit her bottom lip as a sudden heat swept through her. She fought against the dizziness, doing all she was worth to fight against the temptation to just slump into his arms. Emitting a final blow of energy, she separated herself from him, falling to her knees and arms.
Naraku licked his lips and picked himself up from floor. "Sweeter than ever."
"Get out! I left you Naraku! I don't want your life anymore." She glared fiercely at him, worried as she heard footfalls make their way down the hall and towards the training room.
"You'll never escape Kagome. I see the hunger in your eyes. You cannot hide from what you truly are forever." His voice echoed through the room long after he disappeared.
"Kagome?" Sango said as she walked into the training room, concern written all over her face. She saw Kagome struggling to her feet and made a quick dash for her. "What happened?" Her attention was suddenly drawn to her friend's pierced flesh. "Kagome…"
"My past came back to haunt me…" She tried to smile but managed only a slight lifting of the corners of her mouth. "I'm…" Kagome slowly felt her eyes droop, "fine…"
Sango caught the slumping form in her arms. "No Kagome, you're not fine at all…"
