InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Falling For the Baby Sitter ❯ Nothing Special ( Chapter 24 )
"What the hell?!" Inu Yasha spurred Cole making him gallop after the buckskin easily catching up to it. "What's your problem?" he asked.
Kagome shrugged, "I'm hungry."
He snorted. "Yeah, right." Inu Yasha looked ahead and spurred Cole forward "Yahhh!!" he yelled as he took off leaving only a cloud of dust behind him. Inu leaned forward knotting his hands into the horse's mane as they galloped towards home.
Kagome slowed Brandy to a walk as they exited the line of trees. 'I do undress him with my eyes...' she thought miserably. 'God what am I doing...' Brandy tossed her head and looked from side to side as the walked towards the barn. Kagome patted her neck and squeezed her legs around the horse, urging it into a gallop again taking off for the stables. The ribbons finally fell the rest of the way out of her hair and it unbraided, blowing free as she rode the strong buckskin up the yard. Her eyes fell on a motorcycle that she recognized as Miroku's. What was he doing here? She shook her head and pulled back on the reins, slowing Brandy back down once they got to the stables.
Inu Yasha was already in the barn putting Cole in his stall. He looked over to see Kagome ride into the barn. "Finally decided to show up, huh?" he asked as he carried the saddle into the tack room.
She nudged Brandy and the horse reached over, yanking a good couple strands of the boy's hair. She smirked and straightened up as she rode the horse over to the stall and unsaddled her.
He ran a hand over his hair. "Damn nag..." He glared out the door. "Looks like Miroku is here for free food again."
Kagome smiled and nodded, "Yea I saw his bike."
Inu Yasha smirked. "That boy never misses free food." He patted Cole on the head as he walked away. "Well, as soon as you're done with Brandy, come on up and get some food," he said as he walked out the barn door.
She finished putting brandy in her stall and putting her saddle in the tack room and she straightened up. Brushing her hands against her shorts she walked up to the house and smiled when she say Mayu trying to show Shippou how to do a cartwheel.
Inu Yasha sat under a tree with Kouga's head in his lap. "Kouga you're an ass..." he said with a blush as Kouga laughed. Miroku sat on the porch eating a hamburger with the works. Kagome went up to Muuona who gestured for her and sat down. "What do you want to eat?"
Kagome smiled and shook her head, "Nothing, I'm fine." She looked off to the woods absently and leaned forward on her elbows. "I'm just not really hungry."
Miroku looked over at her. "At least get something to drink, it's hot out today," he said as he handed her a soda.
She smiled at Miroku slightly, and took the soda. "Ok, thank you." She popped open the drink and took a few sips of it then rested her chin in her hand.
Inu Yasha leaned against a tree and dozed as Kouga walked over to get some sodas. "Well, it looks like you two made back in one piece," Kouga said with a smile. "You gave us a scare."
Kagome kept her back to Kouga and acted like she hadn't heard him. Her mind kept returning to the woods and then to what Inu Yasha had said while she rode behind him. Her brows lowered into a scowl and she took another swig of the pop.
Kouga looked at Miroku and shrugged walking back over to Inu Yasha and sat down. "I don't think Kagome likes me much, Inu Yasha."
Inu Yasha reached over and snatched a can of pop from Kouga. "So. Why does that matter to you?" he retorted. Kouga raised a brow but decided to let the subject drop for now.
Raising her eyes to Miroku's, Kagome muttered quietly, "Ok so I do."
Miroku looked at her, "You do what?"
She said something so quiet that it was lost when a gust of wind swept over the yard.
Miroku smirked. "I thought so..."
Groaning she slammed her head down onto the table, hoping she could knock a few brain cells into her head.
''So, what are you going to do, Kagome?" Miroku asked in between bites of food.
She looked up at him and grumbled, "I have to quit."
Miroku blinked. "Quit?!" He looked at her face and saw that she was serious. "Kagome, there has to be some other option."
She sighed and looked off to the side. "I ...almost kissed him out in the woods today." Her eyes returned to the table, studying the splintered wood. "And it's not just because of me liking him..." her thought's returned to Hojo and the threat he had made.
"I heard about your ex coming out here today. Is that the reason you want to quit?" Miroku watched her. "You know Inu Yasha won't let anyone hurt you, right?"
She lifted her eyes back to his. "I'm more worried about him getting hurt."
Miroku smirked. "He wouldn't have gotten hurt the other day if he would have really fought back." His eyes glanced over to Kouga and Inu Yasha. "He doesn't really want to hurt his brother."
Kagome sighed, "You don't know Hojo. He's an absolute prick." Her eyes drifted to where Mayu and the boys were playing. "He could come later tonight; he could come a month from now. Either way, he'll find a weakness, and work from there. He will use Inu Yasha's injuries to his advantage. That's why I don't want them to fight."
"Kouga will stay with you guys; he won't let anything happen to Inu Yasha, the boys, or you." Miroku looked at her worried face. "Stop worrying and let them accept you into the family."
Her brow twitched slightly and she slapped a hand over her forehead to keep it from doing so again. A low growl came from her throat and she huffed, blowing her bangs up into the air.
"What did I say?" Miroku asked her, surprised by her actions.
Kagome groaned and dropped her head into her hands. "I have no idea," she muttered. "I'm slowly going insane."
Miroku laughed. "You have to be a little insane to survive in this world, now a days.'' He patted her on the shoulder. "I mean look at Inu; he is the biggest nut in the world. It's a wonder the squirrels haven't carried him away yet."
Miroku raised a brow. "What do I think of what?"
She winked seductively at him. "About my transformations? Drunken Goth by night, Hillbilly babysitter by day."
He laughed. "Yeah you're a regular hillbilly." Miroku lay back on the porch and looked at the sky. "I like it out here; this is my home away from home."
She smiled and leaned onto the table, leaning her head back to look at the sky.
Kouga ran a hand through Inu Yasha's hair. "Are you asleep, Inu Yasha?" The younger man grumbled rubbing his face onto Kouga's shoulder. Kouga laughed, "Sleepy head..."
Inu Yasha cracked an eye open. "Then give me a reason to wake up," he said with that wise ass look on his face.
Mayu snuck up behind the tree, looking at the two guys and slipped a handful of ice cubes down Kouga's shirt, and then ran off, giggling.
Kuga shot up like lightening hit him. "Ahhhhhh!!!! Cold...ice...." He pulled off his shirt and shook the ice out of it while Inu Yasha looked up at him, his eyes full of amusement.
Kagome jumped at the noise and banged her knee on the table. "OWWWWWWWWWW!!!" She growled and punched the table, more out of irritation than pain. "GOD DAMN IT!" she spat.
Everyone's eyes looked at her. "Are you ok, Kagome?" Miroku asked. "You seem to be having a bad day today."
A dark shadow fell over her head, and if she were an anime character, veins would be popping out all over her head. Slowly, she stood up, and just simply walked away to try and calm down.
Miroku sat there looking confused. "Uhhhhh...ok......"
Mayu blinked and looked at Miroku. "I think Mommy is angry."
Miroku glanced down at the small girl. "And why do you think she is angry?"
"Because Inu Yasha doesn't like her." The little girl nodded wisely.
Miroku smiled. "I think your mommy is just stressed." He looked over at Inu Yasha. "Maybe she needs to go out and have some fun for awhile."
Inu Yasha got up and stretched walking over to the table to grab a burger and a soda. "Never can miss a free meal can ya? You damn moocher." Inu Yasha said to Miroku as he fixed his food.
"You know it. Never could turn down your mom's food, Inu." Miroku grinned like a cat that swallowed the canary.
Kagome walked back to the where everyone was with Mayu following her closely. She still looked tense but a hair calmer than she had before.
"Welcome back, Kagome-chan," Miroku said with a wink.
Inu Yasha looked at Kagome. "Ehhhhh…you look pissed, Kagome, what's wrong?"
She lifted her eyes dejectedly up at him, "Do you have any alcohol that will knock me into a coma?"
He blinked. "Oh no, you're not getting my ever clear." He looked back at his burger. "What's wrong with you today?"
She grunted and slumped backwards and draped an arm over her eyes. "Stress."
"You go and relax a while, Kagome...the kids will be fine with all of us." Inu Yasha said as he took a bite of his burger.
She opened an eye at him. "Relax and do what?"
He shrugged. "I don't know what women do to relax. Do whatever you want to do." He sat down next to Miroku. "Read a book, take a bath, kill someone as a sacrifice to some pagan god..."
Peering through her fingers at the sky, she sighed. "If I read a book, there will be a page ripped out, most likely, the ending. If I take a bath, the water with run red as if it were blood. If I killed someone as a sacrifice, they'd turn into something off of Evil Dead and chase me." She grunted. "The gods are against me today."
Miroku looked at Inu Yasha whose eye was twitching with annoyance. "Then, I am out of suggestions for you, Kagome..." he said coldly as he walked back over to where he left Kouga.
Kagome smirked. "Think I annoyed him, Miroku?"
"Inu has a short fuse if you haven't noticed yet," Miroku said as he watched his friend talking with Kouga. "One day it will get him a world of trouble."
She nodded slightly and stood up, brushing off her pants. "Too bad I won't be around to see it." She started down towards her car.
Miroku got up and ran after her. "What do you mean by that?"
She cracked her knuckles. "I just thought of a way to relax."
Miroku's eyes widened as he waved his hands in front of him, "No, no, don't hit me! I was just asking."
She laughed. "I'm going to type up my two week's notice."
Miroku looked her. "You're going to leave him high and dry, aren't you?"
Sighing, she let her eyes drift back up the hill towards Kouga and Inu Yasha. "Inu Yasha is the only man Mayu ever warmed up to..."
"So, let her be around him, what can it hurt," Miroku said, "Just because he is involved with someone else doesn't mean a thing."
She frowned. "I don't like feeling like the way I am now Miroku. The last time I felt like this..." Her eyes drifted back up to his face. She sighed and brushed her hair out of her eyes. "I don't want Mayu to start picking up on it... eventually she will start thinking of him as her father... and then when something happens... it's going to hurt her. You can already see how attached she is to him."
"All kids need a father figure, Kagome...hell you can tell he is attached to the girl too." Miroku stated. "He will never have kids of his own let him take care of the little ones."
She looked back up the hill and watched him play with Mayu as she jumped on his back again.
Inu Yasha smiled as he wrestled with the little girl as Shippou tackled Kouga and Souta helped Mayu. "You can see he loves kids, Kagome," Miroku said as he watched them.
The wind blew past the two, tossing her hair around wildly as she drew in a shaky breath. "I don't want to hurt anyone..." she mumbled quietly. "One way or another though... someone will get hurt."
Miroku pulled her into a hug and patted her back. "Life isn't worth living if you don't put yourself out there to get hurt." He sighed. "A sheltered life is not a life at all.''
She sighed and closed her eyes leaning into his hug. Thoughts kept rushing through her head, but she hit the mute button. Some one would get hurt, that she knew. She just had to make sure it wasn't one of them.
"Kagome, relax, ok?" Miroku said as he stroked her hair. "You're going to break down if you don't."
Taking another deep breath she felt some of the tension flow from her body. "I'm just tired I suppose..."
Mayu looked up from getting tickled by Inu Yasha to call for her mommy for help. She blinked when her eyes landed on her mother though and she giggled looking up at Souta who had attached himself to Inu Yasha's head. "Souta, look! Kagome and Miroku are doing the F word!"
Miroku blinked. "F word?"
Inu Yasha laughed at his friend's blank expression. "Do ya need me to explain it to ya, pervert?" He called out to Miroku.
Kagome groaned and hid her face from the idiots at the top of the hill in the closest place. This, at the moment happened to be Miroku's chest. She had a feeling that didn't improve things much, but at least she couldn't see them now.
Miroku blushed and flipped Inu Yasha off.
Inu Yasha grinned. "I knew you wanted me, Miroku, I figure you would admit it sooner or later." He burst out into laughter and Kouga just looked the other way shaking his head.
Mayu tugged on Inu Yasha's pants. "Puppy?"
He looked at Mayu with a soft smile on his face. "What is it, small fry?"
She frowned slightly, "I don't want Miroku to be my new Daddy."
Inu Yasha frowned. "I don't think he has the intentions of being your daddy. He is just a friend of your mom's."
"Are you sure?" she asked uncertainly looking back at her mom who was still hiding in Miroku's arms.
Inu Yasha nodded. "I am sure…" He looked at Miroku and Kagome and raised a brow.
Kagome grunted slightly. "Miroku?"
Miroku glanced at her. "Yes, Kagome?"
She pulled back frowning. "Do I remind you of Kikyou?" she asked quietly.
Miroku's brows furrowed as a look of sadness crossed his face. "You do in some ways...and in other ways you don't."
She looked off to the side. "I'm sorry..."
Miroku sighed. "It's ok, we all were close friends, and when we lost her, we took it hard, especially Inu Yasha, he wasn't the same for a couple of years." He looked over at his friends. "He was so grief stricken that they almost locked him away in a mental ward."
Up the hill, she saw Inu Yasha looking at them and Mayu hugging his leg, frowning. Her brow furrowed slightly and she looked up at Miroku. "Then Kouga came."
Miroku nodded. "Kouga was the one who broke through to him." He frowned. "Inu Yasha tried to kill himself 3 times before he met Kouga. Did you know that?"
She scowled darkly. "No...I didn't..."
"Yeah, one time he tried to hang himself, another he tried to overdose, and the last time was when he cut his wrists..." Miroku closed his eyes. "He has the scars on his arms from where he cut them."
A dark look came over her face. "It's a good thing he has Kouga now...." she said softly.
"Yeah, and he is lucky he has you to help him," Miroku said, "He and his family has become attached to you, Kagome...you're a good influence on him."
She looked up at him. "If someone else had gotten the job they would have gotten attached to them, so don't act like I'm anything special." She laughed and poked his forehead.
He rolled his eyes. "A tick wouldn't attach itself to that pain in the ass."
Inu Yasha glared down the hill at Miroku. "Oh I heard that!" Inu Yasha yelled.
"Yeah, I know that's why I said it so loud," Miroku replied.
Kouga laughed as he was dog piled by Shippou and Souta yelling out in mock distress.
Kagome smiled up the hill at the guys and Mayu. "I guess I can stick around for a little while..." she mumbled. She looked up at Miroku. "After all, I think I would miss teaching you to dance," she laughed.
He smirked. "You owe me a dance when we go back to the club." He glanced down at his watch to check the time. "We go back tomorrow night. They are having some sort of party for one of the masters."
She smirked back. "You are going to have to go shopping with me then. I need a new pair of fangs. It seems my old one's got lost last time. And I owe a certain someone a bite." She cackled wickedly and laughed.
He nodded. "I will come by to get you and the love birds in the morning and we will go out of town to my favorite mall."
She smiled. "Ok. You know what else you gotta get me to do one of these days don't you?"
Miroku raised a brow. "What?"
She winked at him and leaned close, moving up to her tip toes to whisper in his ear. "Take me for a ride."
He blushed. "Uhhhhh...."
Inu Yasha called down to them "Oi, get a room you damn hentais!"
She laughed and leaned back, flipping Inu Yasha off. "You just wish you could have a piece of this, Puppy!" She looked back at Miroku smirking, "I meant on your bike. I've never been on one before."
Miroku nodded. "Deal. Well, I have to get going; I will see you guys in the morning." He gave Kagome a wink as he walked over to his bike and got on. Miroku put on his helmet and flipped Inu Yasha off as he pulled out of the driveway.
Kagome laughed and trudged back up the hill.
Inu Yasha growled. "One of these days, he is gonna get it...."
Kouga lay on the ground looking up at the darkening sky. "It's getting late, Inu..."
The kids were sitting around fighting back sleep.
"I say we stay here tonight…" Inu Yasha said looking at Kagome. "Do you have any objections to that, Kagome?"
She shrugged. "Sounds good to me."
Inu Yasha took a deep breath and flinched. "Owwww..."
Kouga stood up and picked up Souta. "I say we get the kids in the house and ready for bed."
The younger man smiled and picked up Shippou. "They do look tired."
Kagome scooped Mayu up and took her into the house. She ran into Muuona who handed her a shirt for her to sleep in as well as some P.J.'s for Mayu. She smiled her thanks and went into the bathroom to get changed.
Kouga and Inu Yasha got the boys ready for bed and tucked them into the room that their grand mother had made for them. Kouga stroked Shippou's long hair and smiled as the boy hugged up to his blanket. Souta snored softly in his bed hugged up to his bear. Their uncle left a lamp on for them as he walked out of the room with Kouga.
Out of no where, an irritated Mayu came marching down the hall in oversized nightclothes with Kagome in tow. The little girl yanked her mother down the hallway and Kagome yelped in surprise, the shirt she was wearing barely went over her butt.
Kouga and Inu Yasha looked at the girls. "Where are you all going?" Kouga asked.
Mayu huffed. "Mommy and me have to talk about Daddies and when she can and cannot look for one." Kagome sweat dropped and shrugged, a clueless look on her face.
Inu Yasha blinked. "Mayu, aren't you a bit young to be talking about such things?"
Kouga snickered and buried his face in the younger man's hair.
Mayu huffed and stomped her foot. "Puppy. Go to your room. Or I'll make sure Bad Wolf doesn't sneak you a bone."
Inu Yasha and Kouga blushed and walked down the hall to their room.
Kagome looked down at her. "Now what's this all about?" Mayu shushed her and looked both ways then snuck over to Souta's and Shippou's room, giving the 'secret knock' they came up with earlier.
Souta bounded up out of bed and opened the door. "Hey, Mayu," he whispered and moved to let her in.
Kagome arched a brow and followed Mayu into the room, to find both of the boys up and about. Mayu grinned up at her, and turned around pulling a book off the shelf and grinning big. "Can you read us a bedtime story, pleeeeeeeaaaaaseeeee?"
Kagome sweat dropped and looked at her and the two boys. "You guys did all this for a bedtime story?"
Souta nodded and Shippou smiled as he popped his thumb into his mouth. "Come on, Kagome...please?" Souta pouted. Shippou copied his older brother "Pwease.."
Kagome gave in. "Ok, ok!" She giggled as she looked at the three kids. "You guys are irresistible all together." She scooped up the three kids, causing Mayu to giggle and clutch the book close. Kagome shushed her and snuck them downstairs into the living room in a flash. Plopping them all on the couch, she situated herself in the middle of them and opened the story, pulling a blanket off of the back of the couch, wrapped them all up, and began to read them a story until they all fell asleep.
Kagome smiled all around at the kids, and carefully moved them to the floor and lay down with them, closing her eyes to go to sleep after she covered them all up. Her last thought was, "I hope no one comes down for a midnight snack..."
Kouga sat in a chair and watched Inu Yasha braid his hair back. "Let your hair stay down for once, Inu Yasha."
Inu Yasha tied off the end of the braid with an elastic band "You know I don't like it down, Kouga," he said from his seat on the bed.
Kouga moved over to the bed and sat down behind him rubbing Inu Yasha's shoulders. "I know," he mumbled as he leaned over kissing his neck.
Inu Yasha kissed Kouga roughly as he was pushed back onto the bed "I thought you wanted to wait till I was well?" Inu Yasha asked Kouga in a hushed tone.
"I do, but it doesn't mean I can't have a little fun." Kouga said in a lust ridden voice as his hand traveled down Inu Yasha's chest.
Inu Yasha closed his eyes. "You're going to start something you're not willing to finish and then I'm going to get pissed."
Kouga sighed and lay down next to Inu Yasha. "Tomorrow night then."
Inu Yasha nodded, he knew what tomorrow was going to bring. "The party for Master Soryo," he stated as he closed his eyes.
"Yeah, it's your first and we are going to make it special," Kouga said as Inu Yasha settled next to him asleep.
An urgent knock sounded on their bedroom door as if someone with the patience of a piss ant stood outside.
Kouga got out of bed and walked to the door and opened it. "Hello?" he said as he yawned.
Nazuna stood outside and whispered impatiently. "C'mere, you guys have to see this!"
Kouga looked back at Inu Yasha. "Let's let him sleep Nazuna." Kouga stepped out of the room and shut the door. "What's wrong anyway?"
Nazuna smiled and raced down the steps to the living room. "I just got home, and look at the little hobo's I found camping on our living room floor." She pointed to the kids on the floor curled up around Kagome.
Kouga smiled. "Well, looks like they had a party and we weren't invited," he whispered to Nazuna.
She giggled and grabbed the camera off of the fridge and snapped a few shots. "For evidence," she explained in a whisper, trying to stifle her giggles.
Kouga smirked as he looked at the kids. "They are so sweet when they are asleep."
She smiled, "Yea, adorable little shits." She laughed and kicked his butt. "Go back to bed. I just wanted you to see this."
Kouga fake scowled at her. "What's with me getting my ass kicked today? First the munchkins and now you." He yawned as he started back upstairs.
She laughed, "Your ass is the village shotgun, Kouga. Everyone gets a round."
Kouga snorted indignantly. "I don't think so." He opened the door and went inside. Kouga smiled as he saw Inu Yasha's peaceful face and got into the bed with him but the smile didn't last as his eyes settled on the bruises. "Oh, Inu, what am I going to do with you?" He leaned over and placed a small kiss onto his lover's lips and settled in for the night.
