"Don't Let Go!" The clammy black hair covered Inuyasha's eyes as he tried to keep a hold on the two females in mortal danger. The sweat that dripped from his eyebrows to his lashes somewhat blurred his vision. Their life was in his hands, literally. His violet eyes showed desperation as his strength slowly weakened. There was too much weight to pull up and his blood loss didn't help in his current predicament. He felt Kagome's hand slip slightly lower and lower while Kikyou's stayed strong. Kagome was wounded from the latest battle with Naraku and the red blood that dripped slowly down her arm made her grip on Inuyasha slick and slimy. Having only moments from falling into a dark hole in the ground is never a good thing.

"You are not strong enough to pull both of us up. Inuyasha, I suggest that you let one of us go." Her calm voice worked as a mask to keep everyone else at bay to her inner panic. Kikyou didn't want to die again, it's not the pain that worries her, she can take the pain. It was her goal, the one she was made to achieve. If she was going to die, she was going to die with her beloved Inuyasha.

"..No!...I ...but... I cant!"

"You must choose or you will lose us both!"

"I can't lose you again!"

"You need not to."

"I-I can't"

"It's okay Inuyasha, you don't have to choose." Kagome smiled. Her words caught the attention of the other two. Her voice was cracked but it held firm. "I can only imagine what it feels like to lose the love of your life twice." She tried to smile another time but it came out awkward as she winced; the pain coming from the long cut across her abdomen was shooting an unbearable sting all over her numb body. Inuyasha gripped her hand tighter.

"Kagome..." He frowned. Just because he still had feelings for Kikyou, it didn't mean that he was going to let her fall.

"I understand." Of course, ...she always understood.

Kagome's hand was loosening gradually and it became obvious to Inuyasha on what she was going to do.

"What The Hell?! Kagome, I said DON'T LET GO! DAMNIT!"

For a moment, her eyes sparkled and she gave him the brightest smile she could muster. It was crystal clear that he cared and that was why she was going to do this. He deserves a better life. He has such a big heart, one that was already preoccupied.

"I want to do this for you...your happiness."

"My happiness? What makes you so sure that I'll be happy when you die?!" Inuyasha cried in disbelief, desperately trying to keep a strong grasp on her hand but found it difficult due to her blood and his sweaty palms. She was making him very nervous.

"I understand." was all Kagome replied. Her fingertip was the only thing in Inuyasha's reach.

"Why?" He whispered. He was determined not to lose her. She promised...promised that she'll always stay by his side and he'll be damned before he'll let her leave.

Kagome laughed, somewhat halfheartedly "Why, you ask? I could have sworn you knew... I thought it was so obvious... it's because, idiot... I love you." Letting go completely, she fell into the awaiting darkness, her words echoing softly until it utterly vanished.

A/N: Next chapter is much longer. This one is short because it's sort of an introduction ^_^
