Chapter 1: An Extra Set of Eyes

It was calm spring morning in the Sengoku Jidai. The sun was high in a cloudless sky and shone with renewed brilliance. It was a warm day teeming with an array of animal life and a variety of plants in many colors. Birds soared high and sang their songs of happiness and prosperity. ( A/N: Sounds like it's right out of a Disney movie, huh?) It seemed as though nothing could ruin this perfect day, until...

Out of nowhere the birds and animals stopped all of their activities. They began to scamper away, fear present in all of their little faces. Dark, ominous clouds rolled from all directions, cornering the sun and finally blocking it from view. A cold wind blew rocking the trees and causing their leaves to shiver. Then, everything stopped. No sounds were heard, no movements made. It was as if time had stopped...

"SIT BOY!!!!"

The cry rang throughout the skies seeming to shake the heavens themselves. It reverberated and echoed back throughout Japan. Not long after, an anguished cry was heard and a loud thump! (A/N: You know what they say about calm before the storm...)

A teenage girl stood fuming in front of a body shaped crater, a prominent vain protruding from her forehead. If one peered deep enough into the crater, you would see a twitching half demon muttering a string of curses. Not far from this strange scene stood a monk, a demon exterminator, and two demons shaking their heads in a manner that said Will he never learn? One of the demons was a kitsune, the other a two-tailed cat demon.

"Why does he always have to be so stubborn? Can't he just let her go home in peace?" wondered the exterminator Sango. She was beginning to get tired of this little tradition. Every time Kagome, the teen from the future, said she was going home for some reason or another, Inuyasha, the half-demon, always objected complaining that they needed to find more jewel shards so he could become a full fledged demon. Kagome would say that her reason for leaving was very important so he should let her go. Inuyasha would argue that jewel shards were the number one priority and the fight would elevate from there. She, Miroku the monk, and the demons Shippo and Kirara would have to sit and endure this every time. And every time the fight always ended with Kagome sitting Inuyasha and her jumping into the well that connected past and present. There they would be stuck with a brooding Inuyasha until she finally came back or he went to drag her back. She would come back and the hunt for jewel shards or Naraku's life, which ever came first, would continue.

Sango was pulled from her musings when Inuyasha jumped back up. The Sit command had finally worn off.

"What'd ya do that for?!" Inuyasha shouted with indignation. His face was red with anger, but you couldn't really tell on the count of his face was covered in dirt. He glared down at the girl in front of him.

Despite him being a whole head taller than Kagome she stood up straight and retuned the glare just as fierce.

"I'm going home Inuyasha! Hopefully when I come back you would have learned to quit being such a jerk!!!" She shouted clear in his face. Inuyasha leaned back at her tone momentarily shocked. Suddenly realizing what she had said he leaned back into her face.

"Who you callin' a jerk ya little," but before he could finish Kagome turned around and began to stomp towards the well. It stood in a clearing 15 feet away. She got to it and stopped right in front of it. She slowly turned around with a sweet smile on her face.

"Goodbye everyone! I'll be back soon. Be good Shippo, you too Miroku," She gave him a pointed look. He jumped at the sound of his name. He had been eyeing Sango's backside and his hand had been inching forward for a feel. Sango turned toward him and caught him just pulling his hand away. Before anyone could blink, she brought Hiraikotsu down on his head leaving a large bump. He laughed sheepishly massaging the lump on his head.

"Letch," Sango grumbled under her breath as she scooted away from him.

The smile slipped back into place on Kagome's face she turned away and was about to climb into the well when she suddenly remembered something.

"Oh and Inuyasha..." her voice just dripped sweetness. (A/N: Uh oh...) Inuyasha cringed in fear, he could feel what was coming.

"SIT!" He plummeted to the ground, meeting with is old friend dirt twice in one day. With one final wave she was gone, a blue light shone from the depths of the well and faded.

"Look what you did Inuyasha! You made Kagome go home! Bring her back!" Shippo yelled as he turned into his pink bubble form. He floated over to the prostrate half-demon and began to chew on his ear. Inuyasha growling increased in intensity with each passing second. As soon as the spell broke off, he was up and after the wailing kitsune.

Miroku, Kirara, and Sango looked at them with mild interest before turning around and making there way back to Kaede's hut. All the while Inuyasha and Shippo ran circles around them playing there all too familiar game of cat and mouse. No one noticed the extra pair of eyes watching from the edge of the clearing amidst the trees. They slowly emerged from the trees and ambled over to the edge of the well. It looked into its depths before jumping into it, a sparkling jewel shard present in its forehead.
