LES: Hopefully, this is going good so far. I certainly hate to fail on a story. Hopefully, I at least got Inuyasha's character right. I love dogs, I own a dog, and I know a lot about dogs. So I would be ashamed if I screwed up an Inu-hanyou.
Chapter XI: Size Does Matter
The next day in the Feudal Era, Kagome's heat started and after making sure that she was sure; Inuyasha mated her. This time, it was for the purpose of conceiving a pup.
It was impossible to know if the seed took root in Kagome's womb right away, so they would wait a few days to see if something big would be happening in their life in a couple of months.
“Do you think we'll have a male or female?” Kagome asked as she lay in Inuyasha's arms after their love-making.
“Feh! A male!” Inuyasha said confidently, holding his nude mate closer to himself. “I am a Yokai Lord in need of an heir, remember?”
“I guess. But I think a girl would be nice for our first child… calm and obedient.” Kagome laughed. “The pup will probably share our ears. But which color?”
“Huh?”
“Silver's a nice color.” Kagome said, combing her fingers through her mate's long hair.
“So mine?” Inuyasha laughed. “Just like every Inu-Yokai out there? You just want a copy of me?”
“Well, if we did get your copy, at least we'd know they'd grow up to be handsome or beautiful.”
“Well, no matter how our pup turns out, whether it has normal Inu coloring or some other weird mixture, I'll love and protect it.” Inuyasha breathed as he kissed his mate's throat. “And the same to you.”
Kagome settled into her mate's loving embrace with a sigh. Our pup will be the first hanyou-born pup ever… I just hope nothing happens to it. She swiftly fell asleep in his protective embrace.

The next morning, Inuyasha decided that it was finally time to go pay Totosai a visit. His place was about a day's journey away at hanyou speed.
Inuyasha and Kagome argued for over an hour about if and how Kagome would travel. At first, Inuyasha was all for leaving her behind since they were trying for a pup. And Kagome was just as stubborn about going as he was about leaving her behind.
“We're not even sure if last night took yet!” Kagome yelled, glad that none of her friends were around to hear this part of the argument. “And even if it did, it will be several months before my mobility is affected!”
Inuyasha flattened his ears in annoyance, hers did the same thing. “Bitch… can't you just do what you're told?” Kagome glared at him. “Fine! But I'm carrying you!”
This sparked another debate. “I'm a hanyou now, Inuyasha! That means you don't have to carry me around everywhere!”
“But the pup…” Inuyasha began.
“Sit!” Kagome growled, and Inuyasha kissed the dirt. “If I need to be carried, I'll let you know, all right? I'm going, and I'm not being carried. Am I clear?”
Inuyasha frowned as he got up off the ground. “Yes, bitch.”
“Good. Now that we understand each other…” She began to walk off as the hanyou dusted himself off.
Well, one thing is certain. A life with Kagome as my mate definitely won't be boring. Inuyasha thought to himself as he got up and followed Kagome.

But after they actually got underway, Inuyasha had to admit that he enjoyed travelling with Kagome with way. He was able to keep a good pace, unhindered by waiting for human companions. Kagome ran abreast of him, even when he took to the trees to avoid rough patches in the road.
But he still kept an eye on her. Any sign of exhaustion, and he would insist that he carry her. But, nearly finished with their journey to Totosai's, she had really held up well.
When they reached the ever burning volcanic land that Totosai called home; however, the fumes nearly overwhelmed Kagome's nose. At that time, and only at that time, did she allow Inuyasha to carry her.
He did so slightly more carefully than normal. He took the quickest, surest path through the volcanic land to the home of the sword smith Fire Yokai.
He may be impossible and insufferably stubborn, but it's because he cares about me more than life itself. Kagome thought as she pressed her face against his back. He'll be a wonderful father to our pup.
Inuyasha stopped outside a Yokai skeleton that Totosai used as a shelter. “Oi, Totosai!” He stepped in and carefully set Kagome down.
“Ah, Lord Inuyasha.” Totosai said, looking up from a sword that he was working on. “What brings you here?”
Inuyasha's eye twitched angrily. Kagome could see that the hanyou was trying his hardest to keep from knocking Totosai upside the head.
Kagome stepped forward. “Totosai, you were to make a Sealing Blade for me from Inuyasha's fang.”
“Yeah.” Inuyasha growled. “If the next words out of your mouth are `I forgot', I'm gonna…”
“Oh, yes, I remember!” Totosai said. Usually, the threat of violence was enough to jog Totosai's memory.
“Now…” Inuyasha said, frowning and cracking his knuckles. “Tell me you remembered to make the damn sword!”
“Of course.” Totosai said. “I would be foolish indeed to refuse a commission from a Yokai Lord.”
“Indeed.” Inuyasha agreed. “As you have said, I've come to collect.”
“Yes. This way.” Totosai said, leading them both deeper into the belly of the dead Yokai. There was a table with a cloth draped over it, concealing the blade from view. “I'm sure that my Lord and Lady will be pleased.”
With a proud flourish, Totosai removed the cloth, and Inuyasha's jaw dropped, but not because he was impressed.
Sitting before them was nothing more than a dagger, beautifully intricate in its design, but still no more than a foot in length.
“A dagger?” Inuyasha growled, his hands clenching into fists. “This is all you could get out of my fang? A lousy dagger?!”
Totosai stared at Inuyasha strangely, like he was a great fool. “You were expecting a blade like Tetsusaiga? You'll need to see a couple thousand summers before your fang could produce a blade like the Tetsusaiga. You do not have your Lord Father's stature, as of yet. Besides, Lady Kagome doesn't seem to mind.”
Inuyasha glanced at Kagome, and she read in his eyes that he didn't want her to like the dagger. Males and their obsession with size! She shrugged. “It's a beautiful dagger. I can recognize good craftsmanship when I see it.”
“But… it's just a mere dagger!” Inuyasha complained.
“Inuyasha, I love it. It's a piece of you and, besides, a dagger will be easier for me to carry than a sword.”
“But a dagger's no good to fight Yokai with.”
“This blade is only meant to Seal my Yokai powers. I still have my miko…” But Kagome trailed off. She still hadn't found the courage to test if her miko powers were still hers.
Mikos typically remained pure their whole lives, meaning they refrained from such earthly passions as love-making. But Inuyasha had been given her virginity and, by extension, her purity.
She could still see shards of the Shikon no Tama (Translation: Jewel of the Four Souls), but could she fire purification arrows? She did not have the courage to try.
“Oi, bitch, what's wrong?” Inuyasha asked.
Kagome quickly came out of her thoughts. “Oh, nothing!” Kagome took the blade and its accompanying sheath. “I accept this dagger, Totosai.”
“Well, at least one of you appreciates my work, and it's the one who matters.” Totosai said. “Off you go.”
Kagome bowed to Totosai while Inuyasha did nothing. Then he allowed his mate to climb on his back and he began to carry her out of Totosai's volcanic lands.
As soon as they were far enough away that the smell bothered neither of them, Inuyasha set Kagome down in a small clearing.
Kagome prepared to follow Inuyasha, but he did not move. He was staring at the ground, his unruly bangs covering his eyes. Kagome took a step forward. “Inuyasha?”
“You have to be honest with me.” Inuyasha said, finally looking up at her. “If you don't tell me what's wrong, how can I help you? Tell me, my beautiful Kagome.”
Kagome felt her tears coming. Some of it was relief over Inuyasha's concern. But mostly because she was shamed by her thoughts.
Inuyasha touched her shoulders and brought her close in an embrace. “Kagome?” He gasped when she began to cry into the front of his haori.
“I—I don't want you to think that I'm… ashamed… of us… of our love!” She cried helplessly, fisting her hands on his chest. “I'm not! I love you, Inuyasha!”
“Kagome? What are you talking about?” He asked, slightly alarmed.
“I'm—I've might have lost my powers as a miko.” Kagome sobbed. “I've been too scared to test…”
Inuyasha caught on and cursed himself for a fool for not realizing it sooner. Hadn't he gone through this same thing fifty years ago with Kikyo?
The possible loss of her miko powers was the reason she had cited for refusing to touch him or let him touch her until they were married and the Shikon no Tama was destroyed.

(Flash-back)
“But, why?” Inuyasha asked as he crouched next to Kikyo, confusion evident in his voice. “I don't understand. Why must we wait? I understand your resolve that we have a human bonding, but why must we wait until the Shikon no Tama is destroyed?”
Kikyo sighed, her eyes not on the hanyou next to her, but her own interlaced fingers. “As long as the Shikon no Tama exists, I will be bound to protect it. If we were to join in the way of husband and wife, I would risk losing my powers as a miko.”
Inuyasha sat back a little, staring up into the sky thoughtfully. “Can it even be destroyed? The Shikon no Tama, I mean.”
“There is a way.” Kikyo said. Inuyasha glanced at her, inviting her to continue. “A person who is pure of heart and soul must make a pure wish on the Jewel. If the wish is truly righteous to the core, the Jewel will be completely purified and the Shikon no Tama would cease to exist.”
“A pure wish?”
“Perhaps… you could.” Kikyo said. “Inuyasha… you are a hanyou, a half-demon. But you are also half-human. And the human in you is a good man. If you were to wish to become all human…”
Inuyasha interrupted her. “Human?”
“Yes, human.” Kikyo said with more emotion in her voice. “If you become human, the Shikon no Tama would be destroyed and we could begin our lives together… as humans.”
Inuyasha lifted his hands and stared at the deadly claws that tipped his fingers. “Ever since I heard of the Shikon no Tama's existence, I've wanted to become a full-Yokai. But… if you need me to become human… for us to be together… I will. Kikyo…” He paused, moving closer to her, a blush coloring his face. “I lo—“
“Silence, Inuyasha.” Kikyo said quickly. “Those words need not be spoken between us.”

Inuyasha pulled himself out of his memories. I was such a love-sick fool. Now that I know the wonders of true love, I can see that she did not love me, not like Kagome loves me.
“Kagome… you should have told me sooner! What if a Yokai had attacked?” Inuyasha demanded in an `I-care-about-you-but-you-do-some-stupid-things-sometimes' voice. “Better to find out in safety than when you are trapped in a deadly situation!”
“I know! But I was afraid you'd take it the wrong way.” Kagome cried.
“Feh. Bitch, I'd take it the wrong way if you died in battle for so stupid a reason.” Inuyasha growled, more of a reprimand than in anger. “If you have really lost your powers, I'll start training you to fight like a hanyou for as long as we can.” He grabbed her bow and quiver and handed it to her. “But for now…”
Kagome's hands shook as she accepted the familiar weapons. “Are you sure?”
“Of course I'm sure!” Inuyasha growled. “Now, send a purifying arrow into that old tree over there.” He pointed to an over-grown tree about thirty feet away.
Kagome sighed and notched one of her arrows, drawing the bow with practiced ease. She counted to three in her mind and began to focus her energy on the arrowhead.
The arrow suddenly burst into the pink fires of purification. Neither Inuyasha nor Kagome could hide a smile as she released the arrow. Upon contact with the targeted tree, it nothing short of exploded, reducing the once mighty tree to playground chips.
Kagome stared in amazement. She didn't remember her purifying arrows ever packing such a wallop.
“Well, that proves that. I guess your miko powers consider our relationship to be pure.” And not only that, but her powers have definitely grown stronger! Even the hanyou was a little surprised. For a century and a half, he had been taught that, as a hanyou, he was automatically dirty, filthy, tainted, and unworthy of companionship of any kind. After years of running from a death sentence place on him for the unspeakable crime of being born, to be handed virtual proof that he was not tainted was a complete shock.
It did make him wonder… When Kikyo was with me, her miko powers got weaker… and we hadn't even done anything. Would her powers have disappeared?
“How?” Inuyasha gasped out loud. He was glad that she still had her miko powers, but was at a loss to understand why she still possessed them.
“Maybe… `purity' doesn't have to refer to the purity of my body, but the purity of my feelings.” Kagome guessed. “We truly love and care for each other. A hanyou and a human, falling in love and surpassing the boundaries of race… what love is more pure than a love that is willing to overcome such vast obstacles?”
“Well… I suppose that makes sense.” Inuyasha laughed. “Man… all those miko girls swearing celibacy for nothing!”
Kagome giggled. “Should we spread the word?”
“Nah.” Inuyasha said firmly, but with a grin on his face. “Let them figure it out for themselves.”
