Chapter 14- The Perverted Monk, Miroku
**************************************************************** ************************************************
Three days passed and no more words were received. Sesshomaru seemed to almost give up hope on anyone else aligning themselves with them after learning they pissed off a hanyou that seemed able to trick the senses. Akemi didn’t seem indifferent to the time lapse after the runners went off to find who she wanted. Sesshomaru’s impatience seemed only to feed off of her patience. She had forewarned him, patience was the virtue to play on as a strength.
“Mate, why are you pacing?” Akemi asked as she relaxed in the library. He was pacing before the fire as if he were thinking about a truly irksome problem.
“It’s been three days,” he said as she shrugged and nodded. She knew the subject well, she knew what he was going to bring up. She snuggled further into her seat, a blanket gently draped on her, and sighed as she watched him almost amused. “Why haven’t we received word yet?”
“Because, only one of them was to respond within three days,” she said softly and looked at him curiously. He stopped and looked at her almost annoyed. “We’re waiting upon the word of the monk. The wolf pack representatives should be here today or tomorrow, maybe that’ll help in calming you.” Sesshomaru sighed as he sat at his desk, a few ideas of how to calm himself down flashing through his mind. Grumbling to himself about his tension, Sesshomaru pulled some paperwork towards himself to work on.
They worked silently for a few hours before Jaken ran into the room, panic stricken as if the gods themselves were going to curse him. He panted for a few minuets, to the irritation of the library’s occupants, before speaking.
“Milord! A pair of monks has arrived at the gates!” he said fearfully. Akemi immediately stood up with Sesshomaru and followed as Jaken led the way for them. The scene, if it weren’t so serious, would have been comical to Akemi’s eyes. The two monks were joined by a youkai, a raccoon dog by the looks of it, and were being held at sword point to release their “prisoner”. They were obviously ignoring the raccoon dog in hopes of killing some humans, guests or not.
“Silence!” Sesshomaru bellowed, causing Akemi and Jaken to jump with irritated faces as the guard all jumped into order. The monks still looked worriedly around them, though the younger of the two was trying to discretely slide his hand up his sleeve.
“That won’t be necessary, Miroku,” Akemi said as she stepped forward. The guard seemed to jump back further to both monks’ surprises as she smirked amused. Miroku looked at her, the search to recognize her was apparent on his face before it became clear and he smiled at her amused as well.
“I always knew you’d call me back to your side, milady,” he said as he walked up and kissed her hand. Akemi smiled as she heard a soft growl come from Sesshomaru, it was obvious he was starting to get protective of her.
“Careful of your ways, monk,” she said in a warning tone, “doggies tend to get possessive.” Sesshomaru’s growl got louder as a warning to her as well, making her laugh a little amused at him. “I’m only joking, Sesshomaru, Miroku and I have met before long ago.”
“Yes, I met Lady Akemi back when we were merely children. We were trained by some powerful spiritual leaders for the time together.” Miroku said confirming what Akemi said. “But tell me, how are you since the attack? You look well, thank the heavens.”
“Yes, well, lets get you three inside and comfortable than I shall explain everything. Obviously, I peaked your interest with the name to get you here.” Akemi said smirking. Miroku chuckled as he, the older monk, and the raccoon dog followed them in. The guard looked at each other darkly, thinking their lord and master has finally gone daft for allowing the hanyou lady into his keep, now there were lots of humans and another hanyou within the castle.
Once Miroku and Mushin, the older monk who was also Miroku’s mentor, were shown to their rooms and given a bit to relax, they all met back in the library. There they found Akemi and Sesshomaru relaxing on one of the couches together with seats pulled around for them.
“Are we waiting upon others, Akemi?” Miroku asked as he looked at the number of seats.
“Not at the moment, but before the fight we are. I have sent word to others, not just you, Miroku. But sit and I can explain everything.” She said as they nodded and took their seats as she adjusted themselves. They noticed Sesshomaru resting against her, his head against his chest, and some literature sitting in his lap obviously forgotten.
“I was sent here by my father with a message for Lord Sesshomaru,” she started softly. “It was an attempt to pull me away from the area in fear that if Naraku were to strike it, I wouldn’t be hurt.”
“So, Naraku has started for the kingdoms, then?” Mushin asked as Akemi nodded. “These are going to be dark days indeed if he should succeed.”
“Most definitely,” Miroku said as Akemi nodded. “Please, continue.”
“On my way here I was attacked by Naraku, but unfortunately I fell for one of his tricks. He looked human but before I could get a chance to scent him, he attacked. He destroyed the message, fearing what it said, and left me for dead. Then I was found by Lord Sesshomaru and some of his men and brought here. But the poisons Naraku used against me were strong and I had been forced into my human form in hopes that I could at least purify him before I die. Sesshomaru called upon his half brother, Inuyasha, another hanyou. He came to the castle and with him a young miko by the name of Kagome and she helped heal me back to health. Since then we found my father and learned of what’s going on.” Akemi said as they nodded while listening.
“So, who else did you contact?” Miroku asked curiously.
“I got word that the wolves were attacked in the north, so I wrote them. I sent word asking for allies and condolences to those who had lost one of their princesses, as she was kidnapped by Naraku. A small party should be joining us within the next couple of days. I contacted you because of your family history and then I contacted a very special group of humans. The taiji ya of the East. Most of the village was destroyed by a youkai, though I truly believe it was Naraku. I sent them word that we were hunting him and if they wished, they could send some members of their tribe to assist us in destroying him.” Akemi said as they nodded.
“So, we should be receiving some excellent fighters from the taiji ya clan and allies from the wolf tribes of the north. The odds are looking favorable.” Mushin said as Miroku nodded.
“Yes, but all the allies and fighters in the world won’t stop Naraku if we don’t work together. Instead of a united attack, we’d be flies he’d merely swat to stop us.” Akemi said softly. “I almost fear it is too late for my father.” Miroku nodded silently as he noticed her sigh a little.
“So, what happens now?” Miroku asked her with an award winning smile.
“We wait, the wolf group is on their way and I want to see if I can get word back from the taiji ya. It would be a big help if they joined us, I’m curious to see if they’ve ever faced youkai like this. Maybe it’ll help to learn how they stopped such creatures.” Akemi said as Miroku nodded in agreement.
“Dinner is ready,” Jaken said as he came in. He was surprised to see Sesshomaru out next to Akemi. She nodded and waved him away before gently shaking Sesshomaru.
“I heard,” he grumbled as he closed what he was reading. He stretched a little and stood before helping Akemi up, in actuality the way they were seated Akemi would have never gotten up without Sesshomaru getting up either. They led the two to the dining hall where Inuyasha, Kagome, and the raccoon dog were already seated and waiting.
Quickly Miroku walked up to Kagome and Akemi sighed and shook her head. With a swift set of movements he was kneeling beside her and had her hand in his, kissing it. Inuyasha was growling annoyed that this human was putting a move on his woman. “My dear, I never expected such a lovely woman in this castle. Please, allow me to introduce myself, they call me Miroku.”
“Ka...Kagome...” Kagome responded in shock.
“Kagome, what a beautiful name, it just rolls off the tongue. Kagome, may I ask you something?” Miroku said as he held her hands. Inuyasha’s growling only seemed to get louder.
“You just did, but you can ask me one more,” she said. Akemi sighed as she walked over to them, prepared to beat Miroku for this.
“Would you do me the honor of baring my child?” Miroku asked as he held her hand to his heart. Within an instant two hits landed on Miroku’s head and he was out cold for the count. Inuyasha was standing over the body with Akemi, except she wasn’t seething mad at the moment.
“I warned him to be good,” she said with a sigh.
“Is he dead?” Kagome asked surprised.
“Why do you care? He just asked you to marry him!” Inuyasha said stunned.
“No, he asked her to bare his children, he doesn’t care if she marries him.” Akemi said shaking her head. They both looked at her stunned. “What?”
“I’m not even going to ask how you know, what is he doing here?” Inuyasha demanded loudly.
“Do not raise your voice to Akemi, as she did warn the monk to watch himself here,” Sesshomaru said as he walked over. Akemi sighed and shook her head as Mushin just chuckled amused.
“Miroku does that because of the curse,” he said as she nodded.
“I figured, but I still thought he’d listen to reason,” Akemi said as Mushin shook his head. “I’ll wake him. Look at that girl...is she running around the castle naked?” Quickly Miroku sat up to see what was going on. “Idiot, didn’t I tell you to behave yourself?” she quipped at him.
“Yes, I lost my head, you know how I get around beautiful women.” Miroku said as Akemi just shook her head and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
“Just sit down so we can eat,” she said as everyone else took their seats. Inuyasha made sure Kagome was as far away from Miroku as he could get her at the table.
“So, why did you call the pervert?” Inuyasha asked after they were served. Miroku seemed to feign being hurt.
“My good sir,” he said as he looked hurt, “I truly take offense when you call me such horrible...”
“You haven’t seen anything yet,” Akemi said cutting him off as both Kagome and Inuyasha looked at her surprised. “He has the tendency to grab ladies’ bottoms.” Miroku chuckled weakly as he seemed to be thinking about what he was in all the sudden.
“Well, he’d better not grab at Kagome’s or I’ll kill him,” Inuyasha said as if Miroku weren’t even there.
“Anyway,” Akemi said loudly as if bringing them all back to the subject at hand. “I called Miroku here because he’s a monk and has been hunting Naraku down for a long time.”
“Why?” Inuyasha asked confused.
“Because my family was cursed by Naraku many years ago,” Miroku said as he ate. “My grandfather was cursed by him that he and every male heir of his family would inherit a wind tunnel in their hand. Eventually it will grow and swallow me alive. The only way to lift the curse is to defeat Naraku with my hand, preferably not the one with the wind tunnel. Or one of my heirs to do so.” Inuyasha and Sesshomaru nodded as they thought about it. That’s why Akemi had called him, she knew he wanted part of Naraku’s death for making his own life miserable before he was even born.
“Of course the greatest joy from hearing from Akemi is seeing her blinding beauty again,” Miroku said as Akemi rolled her eyes and Sesshomaru glared at him. In reality the two didn’t like him because he was making them look bad in front of the girls.
“Miroku, you’re so sweet,” Akemi said with a wink at him. “It truly has been too long since I’ve heard your winning lines. So, any lucky young ladies? Or are you still hunting for one to say yes?”
“Alas, I’m still on the prowl for a beauty to bare my child. Several that wouldn’t be worth it, but still. If I’m forced to that I can only hope that the child will get my good looks or we’re all screwed.” Miroku said as Akemi rolled her eyes as Kagome looked at him almost exasperated for his comments. “Now don’t get me wrong, if I had my choice I’d find a beautiful wife and settle down. But, with my wind tunnel and the unknown amount of time I have remaining upon this plane, I’d rather not leave a grieving wife behind to raise my child.”
“Instead you’d rather leave some poor girl behind stuck with your runt,” Inuyasha said before yelping in pain as Kagome glared at him.
“I agree, you’ll leave a sobbing whelp but not a sobbing mate,” Sesshomaru said before he also yelped in pain. Apparently Akemi and Kagome, even if they didn’t like the idea, really didn’t like the two being rude. Akemi glared at Sesshomaru and held it as he glared back for the kick under the table he received for his comment and agreeing with Inuyasha.
“It’s alright, ladies, I thank you for defending me. But they are right, even I see the err in my ways, but I would feel particularly horrible to find the love of my life and leave her so suddenly. I know for humans at least, when a couple is joined in marriage, they plan on spending at least half their lives together, hopefully all before passing away together. I would enjoy that but wouldn’t want to leave her or our child behind, at least a child from a loveless interlude would be taken care of and I wouldn’t feel half the guilt.” Miroku said as if it were a valid explanation. Both girls just sighed and shook their heads as the boys looked at him blankly for a few minuets before returning to their food.
Dinner went by with polite conversation for the rest of it. Miroku remained quiet for the most part, watching the four as if to see where they stood on everything and to determine whether they were valid allies or not in his war against the deceitful hanyou, Naraku. He knew Akemi was, she seemed genuinely concerned about the monk...granted it wasn’t concerned enough to have his child but it was endearing enough as is. With Akemi meant Sesshomaru, who seemed more upset that Naraku was working within his lands and attacking his people than anything else. Though his attentions on Akemi weren’t unnoticeable. There was the inu hanyou and miko he met; Inuyasha and Kagome. They were as much of an odd couple as Sesshomaru and Akemi. Inuyasha seemed to care in the case that Naraku could harm Kagome, otherwise it was obvious he could care less. Kagome also seemed to genuinely concern herself with the welfare of others, though again, she wouldn’t bare his child for him. It was obvious that meant if Kagome were tagging along, so was Inuyasha.
He looked at the others he had met; they were the family of the young miko. Her mother was kind and gentle, obviously where Kagome got it and her good looks. Her younger brother obviously idolized Inuyasha, was talking a million miles a minuet about a hut of some kind. The old woman seemed genuine, she was a miko as well, but obviously quite older than Kagome and Akemi. As was the old man, who almost acted like he was here against his will as he forced food down his face.
“So, Akemi, did that scar ever heal up on your human form?” Miroku asked curiously. Akemi shrugged as she ate while everyone looked at them confused.
“Scar?” Sesshomaru asked as he looked to Akemi. She smiled and shrugged innocently.
“I fell a few months back while in my human form, sometimes when I get hurt I get scars despite being healed by this one. That’s the problem between the two, this one doesn’t scar and that one does.” Akemi said as she thought about it. “Anyway, I had fallen and deeply cut open my left shoulder, in the back, so I don’t know because it’s kind of hard to see back there. Though I haven’t noticed when I use mirrors.”
“But you’re used to seeing scars so it’s different,” Miroku said as Akemi shrugged and ate some. They noticed Akemi didn’t seem to mind Miroku’s bringing up her past in front of them.
“So, you’ve known each other long,” Sesshomaru observed.
“We met sixteen winters ago when he in one of the villages. After about twelve winters, he moved on to other villages, starting his training, within the kingdom, they complained to father about him and he went to remove him. Then he went to imprison him.” Akemi said with a nod. Miroku chuckled as Akemi shook her head.
“Why?” Li asked curiously.
“Because, it’s how I found Miroku has a habit of grabbing females’ bottoms,” Akemi said as Miroku chuckled again, nervously as Sesshomaru eyed him darkly. “He didn’t recognize me and decided to try his hand, pun not intended. He won’t do it again, I assure you.”
“At least not to the lovely ladies at this table, I pray that you won’t stop me from attempting to entice other beautiful women?” Miroku said with a hopeful glint in his eyes.
“Since we are going to defeat Naraku, you don’t need to entice anyone.” Inuyasha snapped. Miroku looked at him surprised, mainly at the confidence.
“You hold more hope than I do, my friend,” he said softly as he looked down. “But then again, there also isn’t a time limit on your life.” Inuyasha nodded as he thought about it.
“That is enough talk about death,” Sesshomaru said stoically as they all nodded. Dinner was done for the most part so they all separated into their individual ways for bed that night.
As he walked the castle, as he did every night when he couldn’t rest despite being with Akemi, Sesshomaru came upon the wayward monk his mate-to-be had invited to the castle. He was leaning on one of the hall balconies watching the moon and occasionally looking to his hand. It was wrapped in purple cloth and holy beads were wrapped around that. It was obviously what he did to protect the barrier and everyone else at the same time.
“They say that Naraku is more powerful than some of the most powerful youkai of the past, I know your father was one of them,” Miroku said without turning around. “You obviously have inherited, for the most part, his legacy.”
“As, obviously, have you from your father.” Sesshomaru responded as Miroku chuckled and nodded in agreement.
“When I was younger, I watched as my father and mother got sucked up into his wind tunnel. My mother wouldn’t let him go no matter how he tried to convince her for my sake, I was left in the care of Mushin. He’d discovered ways of healing the wind tunnel without being sucked into it but he can not fully heal it.” Miroku said softly as he explained what had happened. “I didn’t want the same life, obviously, so I learned how to and became what some would call a womanizer.”
“A pervert is more like it,” Sesshomaru said as Miroku chuckled and nodded. “You seem to highly doubt Naraku will be defeated. Obviously, Akemi wouldn’t have summoned you if she didn’t believe it were possible or that we didn’t have a trail to follow.”
“You don’t have a trail to follow, and you’re right, I don’t believe Naraku will be defeated by us. One day, but not today. Akemi was always filled with hope, it’s part of the training she was given, like Kagome. I see in both females’ eyes the hope that they can fix what is wrong, which is proper for a spiritual lady of their powers. Both are very strong and powerful, their purification untied may stand a chance, but we really don’t know what he can do.” Miroku said as he looked over his shoulder at the stoic youkai lord. “You might as well send your army home, they’re useless.”
“Apparently you know more than you’re willing to reveal,” Sesshomaru said annoyed that he wouldn’t let them prepare properly with valuable information.
“I’ve been chasing him the longest.” Miroku said as he turned around. “I know almost as much about him as he does.”
“Go to bed, monk, and I suggest you speak with Akemi and Kagome tomorrow. Your sorrow for yourself is clouding your aura,” Sesshomaru said and returned to his patrol. Miroku watched him walk off, sighed, and went back to his room for the night thinking about what Sesshomaru said.
