Chapter 1

Switched and Feeling

Kagome ran blindly through the woods not at all taking in anything. Not even the distant call of her name from somewhere far back. Really the only thoughts running through her mind at the time was how Inuyasha had told her completely how he and Kikyo were going to be together no matter how worse things got. Than he told her out of pure anger that he'd choose Kikyo over her any day .

That was probably the only thing that kept Kagome running. Tears were flowing freely from her eyes by now, hot trails of salt water tears dripped below her chin falling carelessly onto the age-trodden ground below her feet. There was nothing to keep her from running further and further, not even Inuyasha calling her name and asking her to come back.

That led to another question. She had had plenty of chances to leave, but she still chose to stay in the feudal era . . . with Inuyasha. She had even asked him when he clearly chose Kikyo, but even than she still felt a pang of hurt at it. The tears had long since dried by the time she had reached the end of Inuyasha's forest.

She looked around gently reaching her hands up to gently brush away any of the remaining tears from her cheeks and some assaulting ones that were ready to fall. In a matter of seconds Kagome's hand fisted and collided fiercely with the nearest tree trunk. This was a bit of a mistake that only caused her more pain.

She needed out of this place, but she couldn't go back and Inuyasha was probably hot on her trail. She had to keep running, but her legs were already tired from running too much, even if they still could she doubted they'd take her far. There was only one way of losing him, jumping into that rather mucky water over there.

Kagome sighed. She really wanted to lose Inuyasha so she could have some time to think about her problems. Making her way to the edge of the little spring, she didn't even notice the cold grey eyes that watched her, until . . .

"Wha?" Kagome cried out falling backwards as an arrow shot out in front of her, causing her to scowl lightly from the contact of the hard ground, not to mention muddy. "Dammit!" she growled getting up only she was stuck. She looked around for anything that could cause her to lose her sense of mobility.

She gasped as she came face to face with none other than Kikyo.

A cold and malicious smirk settled onto her lips, filling in for the dead look in her eyes. "Why aren't you with Inuyasha, girl?" came her dead voice from those clay made lips.

Kagome averted her gaze to the water in front of her; she needed to get into the water. But Kikyo had her locked down tight in what ever she was locked down in. Right at that moment she wanted to cry and curl into a tight little ball and die. She wanted nothing more than that, other than to be with Inuyasha. Free of Kikyo and Naraku, able to live happily together, but they were no where near that fantasy.

"Why aren't you answering me?" Kikyo asked her annoyance at being ignored evident in her voice.

Than came Inuyasha's voice calling her name. Stringing the little pieces together in her head, Kikyo smiled leaning down to clench onto Kagome's hand thus letting the power that kept Kagome from moving to be broken. Making the two mikos to fall into the water before them with a splash.

A purple light flashed than disappeared as the two resurfaced, spurting out the dirty water from their mouths in attempt to get the taste out.

"Kagome . . ." Inuyasha whispered coming into the clearing where he had smelt Kagome, only there was another sent a familiar scent. Kikyo . . . He thought more anger dwelling inside of him. Anger directed intentionally to him, for saying all those things to her, for hurting her. Sorry wasn't going to cut it, but maybe it would, he'd never say sorry to anyone, maybe those simple words would work for him.

Taking a deep breathe he walked further into the clearing to see Kagome and Kikyo dripping wet and glaring at each other. Suddenly the tall and tough hanyou turned into a wimpy little hanyou.

"Inuyasha." Kikyo choked her eyes clouded with tears as she made to turn away. She had half expected Inuyasha to run after her, but he called on Kikyo instead. Tears flowed freely from her eyes now; she had wanted him to call her.

"Kikyo . . ." Inuyasha called again.

What was he doing Kikyo was walking towards him wasn't she? She turned back to see herself walking towards him, but if she was there than who was she? She looked down at herself and found priestess garments. She was Kikyo!

Kagome turned to look at him, feeling his intense stare on her. Had he always looked at Kikyo like this? She couldn't contain her smile that shifted to her lips and noticed the look of shock on Inuyasha's face. It made her smile even more, Kikyo probably never smiled, so it probably looked amusing to him.

Just than her body across from her spoke. "Inuyasha?" It was her voice, her sweet voice calling for Inuyasha.

She almost felt tears prick at her eyes again as Inuyasha turned away from her and made his way back to her body, no doubt Kikyo's soul was probably in there. She watched as he whispered sorry to her before taking her hand in his and gave a backward glance at her before leaving her all alone.

Just as he was out of sight she broke down into tiny sobs. She wanted Inuyasha; she couldn't stand the cold stench that surrounded her body and soul as she stood still into the murky water forgetting that she was Kikyo.

Suddenly the water around her started floating in a non chalant way before falling to the ground with a splash as it hit more water. Did Kikyo ever feel hurt? She probably did, like when she thought that Inuyasha had striked her, but Inuyasha was Inuyasha, didn't she know he'd never hit a human woman? Probably not, but he was different than he was fifty years ago.

Carefully she dried her face, marveling at how much it felt like skin. She stared at her hands they were cold, but everything felt cold. Kikyo was dead, her anger and hatred stuck to a walking clay image of herself.

How could Kikyo live like this? Kagome broke off into a laugh. "Of course she's dead . . . it's used to when you're dead." her eyes slanted down to the murky water. How had they switched bodies? Did it have anything to do with the spring? Maybe . . .

~*~

"Inuyasha . . ." Kikyo mumbled as she looked on as he shifted slightly to look at her. Her eyes catching the softness in his eyes as he looked at her. So this how Inuyasha looked at Kagome. Kikyo almost felt tears but pushed them away, she didn't need them. But the strong urge to cry was really strong, was this how Kagome always felt in his presence ? Maybe they felt the same way about the certain hanyou.

"What is it Kagome?" Inuyasha asked falling to the ground beside her. Usually she'd be smiling by now, but he had probably hurt her bad. "I'm sorry." he whispered pulling her into a soft embrace.

Kikyo would usually struggle out but this was Kagome's body and she found her hands jerk around Inuyasha torso and finally clasp behind his back. This was the kind of comfort Inuyasha had gave her when she was alive not dead, when she was a miko sworn to kill demons and protect the shikon jewel, the one that lay around her neck.

The jewel glowed lightly. Kagome's powers weren't that strong yet, plus she was too pure and her body wouldn't allow her to reach and touch the jewel. Kagome's body had a policy, no doing mean stuff to Inuyasha and her friends. Kikyo almost scowled at that, but her face still held its look of cold serenity but her eyes held a different meaning. They were Kagome's bright and cheerful eyes, not Kikyo's cold lifeless grey eyes.

"Kagome, you should get some sleep." Inuyasha told her letting her go. "We have to leave bright and early tomorrow." he said softly leaping up into his branch above her, his eyes closed but his ears twitched every second, still alert.

Kikyo frowned. He was like that before too; always alert, too scared that something would come out of the woods and attack him, just like her . . .

That was the first thing that drew them together, wasn't it? They were the same, outcasts . He was a hanyou hated by all; she was a homely miko with unordinary powers that drew her from the rest of the world in attempt to protect the jewel. She had wanted to use the jewel on Inuyasha to turn him into a human and the jewel's powers being diminished the jewel would disappear and she would have to no longer protect it, so she could live a normal life with him.

If it were true that she loved him, than would she have believed that it wasn't him who had attacked her? Really the sense of betrayal and she shot him, but she still wanted to be with him, so she died with the jewel and reincarnated into Kagome in hopes of seeing Inuyasha again. Everything was meant to happen, she loved Inuyasha, or she hated him? Seeing him alive took her completely by surprise and she wanted him dead.

She was just a shadow of the girl she used to be. A mere shadow of the miko who loved Inuyasha . . . she still held her kind nature to care for the weak and love the children and treat them the same way she treated anyone.

Inuyasha was complicated, she was angry that he had fallen for another girl in her presence but there was something Kagome's body was telling her.

"Inuyasha, who do you choose?" she asked allowed, hoping that she would get an answer from the hanyou above, all she heard was a slight grumble than a whispered 'Kagome'.

Does he really choose Kagome over me? Kikyo asked pulling her knees to her chest resting her chin on her intertwined fingers. You really do love him don't you, Kagome?

(A/N: Well read and review, even if you don't like it. I think I'll put the other story on too . . . well hope you all liked and maybe I'll update this story this week. And I'm not full of myself!)
