InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ First sight of Melena ❯ First sight of Melena ( Chapter 9 )
(A.N : Ok first off I'd like to apologize to all of you for taking so long to update. I have been having personal problems at home that have kept me from writing, including and horrible writers block. So PLEASE don't kill me! *hides from readers with weapons in their hands* )
The wind whistled by as Inuyasha raced forward, Kagome clinging to his back, head lifted as she felt the power from the waterfall clearing get stronger, making her grip Inuyasha's shoulders in her growing fear and excitement.
"We're here." called out Inuyasha as he slowed down before the small opening that would lead them deep into the forest that would lead them toward the falls. Sango had Kiara settle to the ground as she leaped down, her hand already reaching back to her weapon as Shippo huddled down behind the fire neko's head. Miroku paused to catch his breath from the run before stepping forward, the rings on his staff setting off a jingling. Kagome hopped off, seeing how she no longer needed to ride on Inuyasha. The whole gang began to slowly step into the forest.

I swung my head around as my new ears caught the sound of several people approaching, plus a large animal. I paused for a moment wondering how I knew this, when I noticed I was taking several deep breathes through my nostrils, almost tasting the natural mild scent of human, and something a bit wild and exotic while another was more like grass during the spring. I took in another deep breath catching another scent behind the others. It smelt of summer, when the days are hot and the grass is browning and fur is thick and sun-warmed. It was hard to define the smells to something being how new I was at this plus, I needed to see them in order to place the correct scents.
I gave a snort to clear out the smells of them and stepped to the side nervously for what was I to expect? What if Unicorns were an animal to hunt here. What if I was food? The thought of me roasting over a spit caused me to squeal and shy to the left, lashing my tail across my flanks making a nervous swish kind of sound.
I could now hear them better. One voice - obviously male - was growling in an under-tone to a milder, more calmer voice - also male- while there was a kind of tiny whimper much like a child would make hushed by two female voices. "Shut up all of you. I hear it." The growly voice snapped, making the others shush, and causing me to panic. He can hear me? But my squeal wasn't that loud. How could a mere human hear that from that far?
I gave another snort in fear and leaped behind some trees, just as the group leaped into the small clearing where I had stood, yelling out and baring weapons. I shuddered as I watched them, glad to have moved, thinking if I hadn't I would have been cleaved in two with that huge sword the first one was carrying.
One of the girls was carrying this huge boomerang braced against her back, while the other had a bow with a quiver full of arrows. The second male had a strange staff with rings hanging off of it and beads surrounding his right wrist. I couldn't see the smaller one I had smelled and heard nor did I see any large beast with them until I suddenly heard a snarl behind me along with the young voice yelling "Kagome! We found the youkai!" I gave a piercing whinny in fear and leaped forward, only to lunge back again when the first male stepped toward me with his sword. This was it… I was going to die!
"It's just a horse youkai. They're weaklings." Smirked the first male. "Oy Kagome, do you see a shard or any Shikon no tama on this one?" The girl with the bow and arrows blinked, stared intently at me while I danced nervously, trying to find a way to escape, then she shook her head with a confused expression. "I'm not sure Inuyasha… I can sense power like the shikon jewel with this creature, but I don't see any shards on it."
This male she called Inuyasha eyed me for a moment before he lifted his sword higher. "Keh I bet the power is in that pretty horn. Let's just slice that thing off!" And he suddenly came running at me. He was going to cut off my horn?!?!?
I gave a sharp squeal of anger and fear and leaped up suddenly feeling my wings flow from my sides to sweep down quickly, bolting me in the air before the sword could swing at my head. It seemed my body knew what to do to protect itself before I did!

"Nani?!" Inuyasha yelled glaring up at the youkoi that flew up. "It can sprout wings?"
Maybe if I use Kaze no Kizu… Iie, it'll only destroy the monster.
"Oi you bastard! Come down and fight like a demon."
Demon? I thought. Me a demon? Like hell I am. I gave a disgusted snort and landed down a ways from him, keeping my eyes on the man… or whatever he was. I didn't do anything that would make him think I would attack, it was the last thing I wanted to do. I merely stood there, flipping my tail back and forth and watched him.
"What? To scared to fight me?" Inuyasha called out. Then he narrowed his eyes and growled, "Or are you too good to fight with a hanyou."
I frowned at the strange words. First there was the one they called me.. Youkai, and then there was the new one Hanyou. What were they talking about? I had to voice my confusion, if only to show I was not from here. Perhaps they would let me live.
I concentrated, feeling nervous because I was not a hundred percent sure I could speak. I knew I could laugh and sing, that much was certain. I gave a cough, causing the girls to flinch and and redirect their weapons at me. I gave a squeak in fear and took a step back, before finally getting out, in a silvery yet stuttery voice, "H-hanyou? What…is a … hanyou?" Thank God! I could speak!
"Eh?" Inuyasha quirked a brow while the others murmured to their selves "Is this some kinda trick?" He glared at me, making my skin twitch nervously.
"N-no, I'm not tricking you. I honestly don't know what a hanyou is. And what is a… youkai?"
Everyone face faulted at that. "Nani?!" They all yelled, making me leap back, huffing at them. "You don't know what a youkai is?" The one with the bow and arrows…Kagome asked. "But you are a youkai!"
I tilted my head at that. "A unicorn is a youkai?"
