InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Fixing Our Mistake ❯ His Weaknesses, Her Memories ( Chapter 1 )
A/N: Wow…I didn't expect to get such a response to the prologue alone…Sugoi! Arigato for the reviews! ^_____^ I've decided on updating once a week on this fic (or at least try to), this way I not only have the time to write it but I am also allowed free time as well to come up with ideas for it. I have it mostly planned out but there are some parts of it that I'm not completely sure on, but they're in later chapters like WAY later, so you don't have to worry about not getting these. OH and I will warn you now: Sesshoumaru is going to be OOC in this chapter but there's a reason for it and it should be self explanatory but that could be just me. Just in case I'm going to write an author's note at the end explaining it. Well, before I start babbling even more than I already have I'm going to stop talking and go on with the fic. (***NOTE*** Review Responses are at the bottom, so dun think I'm forgetting 'em or anything.)
Disclaimer: Heh, you people would hate me if I owned Inuyasha and the gang…cliffhangers would be happening left and right.
If Sesshoumaru had any weaknesses they were his daughter and Rin. He hated her for that. He was not supposed to have any weaknesses period. It was her fault that he was no longer without weakness. Everything that was going wrong in his life right now was her fault. Everything had been perfect until she came along and shook the very foundation of everything he was. But damn it, no matter how hard he tried he could not bring himself to stop loving her, and he hated her for that. But most of all he hated her for not returning his love.
His sharp amber eyes observed his daughter as she played with her…what was it she called his father? Oh yes…her 'papaw'. It was hard to believe that such a happy and seemingly healthy little girl could be anemic. Rin had explained in the note she had given to him that the girl had to be given injections because she was unable to take it orally. She had also explained where she had put it and when it was to be given to her.
As the little girl looked at him a giggled, he allowed his stoic mask to slip slightly and a shadow of a smile meant for only two people on the face of the planet, tugged the corners of his mouth upwards. Yes…she was one of his weaknesses…but he wouldn't trade her for anything in the world.
He remembered the first time he had held her in his arms at the hospital. Rin had allowed…no requested…his presence in her room while she gave birth.
"It's your child as well Sesshoumaru…I have no right to deny you the chance to see the miracle of its birth…" she had told him.
And for that he was thankful. Watching the miracle of his daughter's birth had truly been the highlight of his life. Only those who knew him well enough to read him knew just how amazed he had been by her entrance into this world. The day would have been perfect had it not been for the fact of his knowing that they would not be going home as a family once Rin was released. But it had been a pleasant surprise when she announced that the child would not only have his last name but also be named for his mother.
His amber pools once again became trained on the child. She was the perfect mix of her parents, even down to her amber speckled brown eyes. Her white hair had a single black streak on each side of her head and then another in the back. She had her mother's smile and his facial structure. She was…in his eyes…the perfect child. A parent could not ask for more. She was sweet, caring, innocent, cheerful, beautiful, and the list went on. No…he realized, that night two and a half years ago was a night he would not trade for the world. He didn't care if he gained weaknesses from it; he liked those weaknesses and refused to let anything happen to them…even if one didn't want him.
"Dada!" Sakura squealed happily, breaking his train of thought, which in turn successfully halted his ponderings.
"What is it Kura?"
"Look!" she beamed as she handed him a small, sloppily made crown of flowers.
Taking it, his hard, cold amber eyes softened the slightest bit and he examined it a moment before he looked once more at his daughter.
"Did you make this?"
"Mamaw, Papaw hewped Kuwa!"
Looking over her head at his father, he raised an elegant brow. "Papaw helped as well?"
Sakura giggled and nodded vigorously. "Mamaw ask Papaw hewp!"
Inutaisho snorted indignantly. "More like Mamaw threatened Papaw into helping."
A hint of a smirk pulled at the corners of Sesshoumaru's mouth.
"Oh hush Taisho," Mika retorted, sitting on the arm of the chair he currently occupied. "You can't tell me that seeing her smile and laugh like that wasn't more than worth it."
Sesshoumaru picked up his daughter and set her in his lap.
"Wath movie Dada!"
"What movie?"
"Bwovew Beaw!"
Sesshoumaru quirked an eyebrow once more, puzzled for a moment as his mind tried to translate a 21 month olds language into something understandable.
"Brother Bear baka," Inuyasha snorted from his place in the doorway.
"You were the one that taught her to say it I assume."
"Keh, no. Kagome did."
As Sakura started to chatter on and on about anything and everything she could think of, Sesshoumaru's mind went back to Rin. He was fighting a constant war because of her. One between love and hate. He wanted to hate her more but he needed to love her and it was quickly angering him that he needed anything as foolish as that emotion. Although he knew it was a war he would inevitably lose he continued to fight…he wouldn't allow the unimaginable…he would not allow himself to be hurt by that damned emotion.
Rin sighed as her thoughts once more went to Sesshoumaru. Silently she cursed herself. She wasn't supposed to feel this way about him. Why did these sorts of things always seem to happen to her? She must have had the worst luck of anyone she knew.
That night was a mistake, she knew that. But part of her kept screaming that something about was wrong. That she and Sesshoumaru's being intoxicated wasn't what had caused their mistake.
But try as she might, Rin couldn't remember anything about the incident. Well except for the fact that she woke up in his arms and had been feeling so…complete. That is until she realized that not only were they both with other people, but the fact that she couldn't remember a single thing about the night before.
Fear, panic, pain…she had struggled to keep from bursting into tears. She knew if she had done that she wouldn't possibly be able to think rationally. But as she collected herself Kageroumaru had walked in, following by none other than her boyfriend at the time, Juuroumaru himself. To say that he had literally gone insane would be the only way to describe his reaction. He really had. He'd even tried to attack the still sleeping Sesshoumaru, and panicking Rin had thrown herself on top of him waiting for the blow she knew was coming. But she had to protect him. She knew it wasn't either of their faults that what happened the night before had happened; she didn't know how she knew she just did…
Quickly she shook her head; she didn't want to think about it anymore. It was done and over with. Nothing could change what had happened that night and she had learned to accept that fact. Taking a deep breath she looked out her window at the stars in the sky, unconsciously noting that it was Sakura's bed time.
Sesshoumaru, in an uncharacteristic show of gentleness, leaned down and placed a light kiss on his daughter's brow. As he stood to leave though, her tiny hand slipped into his larger one and tugged lightly at it.
"Dada?"
Turning he looked at her. "What is it Kura?"
"Sing Kuwa one of you songs….pwease?"
He knew it was coming, she asked the same question every time he put her to bed. Nodding he sat down next to her. "One song Kura…then you go to sleep."
The child's smile lit up the room as she nodded. "Kay Dada, one song, Kuwa seeps."
Pulling the blankets up a bit further until they rested just below her chin, he went through all of his songs and finally settled on the one he had written for her. Well…he hadn't exactly written the entire thing for her, but he had written the chorus for her, it was meant for when her fear of the dark got the best of her. The rest…the rest he had written for Rin.
Stroking a piece of hair from her face, he began to sing softly, his rich baritone voice filled the room.
"I feel like there is no need for conversation
Some questions are better left without reason
And I would rather reveal myself than my situation
Now and then I consider my hesitation
The more the light shines through me
I pretend to close my eyes
The more the dark consumes me
I pretend I'm burning, burning bright
I wonder if the things I did were just to be different
To spare myself the constant shame of my existence
And I would surely redeem myself in my desperation
Here and now I'll express my situation
The more the light shines through me
I pretend to close my eyes
The more the dark consumes me
I pretend I'm burning bright
The more the light shines through me
I pretend to close my eyes
The more the dark consumes me
I pretend I'm burning
There's nothing ever wrong but nothing's ever right
Such a cruel contradiction
I know I crossed the line; it's not easy to define
I'm born to indecision
There's always something new-some path I'm supposed to choose
With no particular rhyme or reason
The more the light shines through me
I pretend to close my eyes
The more the dark consumes me
I pretend I'm burning bright
I pretend
The more the light shines through me
I pretend to close my eyes
The more the dark consumes me
I pretend I'm burning bright
I feel like there is no need for conversation…" he finished the song softly.
He wasn't stupid, he knew it was too complex for a 21 month olds mind and that she hadn't understood a word of it, but it seemed to do the trick. Sakura was now sleeping peacefully, a small smile of content gracing her lips as she hugged the stuffed rabbit he had gotten her for her birthday to her chest.
"Good night my beautiful daughter…sweet dreams," he murmured before standing and leaving the room, shutting the door quietly behind him.
Sesshoumaru reached his room and lay down on his bed, staring at the wall. He narrowed his eyes at if as if doing so would solve any problem he had ever faced in his life. Doing such a thing had become his nightly ritual and he was beginning to despise himself for it. He was being weak.
Rolling over onto his other side, he allowed a sight to escape him. "The same goes for you as well Rin," he mumbled before closing his eyes and allowing sleep to take him.
A dark figure slipped silently out of the room's window and smirked looking at the tape recorder in its hand.
"Gotcha Sesshoumaru…"
A/N: Okie, I promised an explanation for Sesshoumaru's OOCness. He's OOC cuz people even the strongest of men melt around their children, even if they hide it. *glares accusingly at soon-to-be brother-in-law* Especially their daughters. And yes, I know the song was WAY too complex to be a lullaby for Sakura, but I couldn't pass it up. It's a beautiful song (well *coughs* as beautiful as a group like Shinedown can get as wonderful of a group as they are, their music cannot be considered beautiful.) and it does have a bit of a lullaby sound to it. At least to me it does…but ANYWHO on to my review responses. *gives Sesshoumaru and Rin plushies to all who reviewed*
