InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Flirt ❯ Flirt ( Chapter 1 )
Disclaimer: None of the characters belong to me, they're just borrowed for the story.
Author's Notes: Ok this can also be read at FF.Net but since I'm mad at that page, I'm posting here as well. This is a continuation piece to my previous M/K one-shot Lips. You don't have to read it to understand this one, but it couldn't hurt.

"You're being a jerk again," Kagome glared at Inuyasha and tapped her pencil on her notebook. "Its not MY fault you can't sleep well indoors, if you don't like it so much then go sleep in a tree. We'll sleep just fine without you here for the night."
"Feh, fine, I'm outta here!"
Stomping out of the room, Inuyasha slammed the shoji shut behind him, ignoring the others watching. His stomping was heard all the way to the front of the house until he finally lept out into the garden. Sango yawned and turned over in her blanket, falling into a deep sleep quickly after the long day of traveling. Kirara and Shippo slept beside her, tucked in the curve of her knees.
Miroku was once again meditating, slightly relieved that Inuyasha was gone. He'd been jumpy around the hanyou for the past week, knowing that he'd lucked out the other night after his kiss with Kagome. Having seen the beatings Kouga had taken after touching Kagome's hands, death was the only option for a mere human such as himself if Inuyasha found out he'd actually kissed the girl he loved.
[Hai, the baka loves her I suppose, in a posessive, animalistic way. But damnit, why must I have to give her up for him? She kissed me back, that's got to mean something.]
Opening one eye, he glanced over at her back for a second before closing it once again. They hadn't discussed the other night, although every so often she'd give him a certain look or accidently brush against him, giving him a reason to believe.
[Kagome's not the type to kiss someone for no reason, not like that]
Soft shuffling noises reached his ears and he heard the light sound of her footsteps drawing near. Material hit the floor in front of him, another rustling, paper crinckling and then Kagome's small hand touched his knee.
"Hai Kagome-sama?" He kept his eyes closed and waited for her to speak.
"I umm... took another one of those tests," Kagome sighed, "And I was wondering if perhaps..."
"I'd like to take it also?" Miroku opened his eyes and smiled, "What's this one about?"
Kagome smiled back, "Flirting styles!"
Seeing her exicitement he watched her settle in across from him like she had last time. "Ok here we go, there might be more questions this time, I don't remember exactly."
1. Have you ever asked a girl for her number?
A. Of course
B. No, but I might
C. No, and I never would
"Um, that would be like asking to court her," Kagome tried to explain.
"Yes"
Miroku saw the annoyed expresson that caused and inwardly grinned. [Could she be jealous?]
2. If a cute girl accidentally bumps into you at a bar, how do you react?
A. Strike up a conversation
B. Follow him around
C. Throw out my best pick-up line
D. Act unfazed
E. Make a joke about it
F. Keep an eye on her
"I would most likely ask her..."
"Your favorite question, I know," Kagome shook her head and mumbled. "That would be your pick up line."
3. Your voice is:
A. Quiet and breathy
B. Low and sexy
C. Cute and perky
D. Pretty average
Miroku frowned and rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "I don't believe I've ever heard my voice well enough to know."
"Its low and sex ok?" Kagome blushed but gave him a playful grin, "Trust me on that."
Grinning back, he nodded and watched her write down his answer, "As if I could doubt you dear Kagome-sama."
4. When you're around someone you're interested in, you become more:
A. Introverted
B. Extroverted
"Extroverted"
They both spoke at the same time and laugh, remembering they'd done that during the last quiz he'd taken.
5. Do you have a good wink?
A. I'm a pro
B. It's okay
C. No, I look ridiculous
"I must admit, it took me a while to get it right, but I'd say I'm a pro by now," Miroku winked, "What do you say?"
"I'd say you've got that down pretty well," Kagome giggled.
6. How often do you touch people when you talk?
A. Every opportunity I get
B. Pretty frequently
C. Not too often
D. I don't touch
E. I've never thought about it
"I'd say pretty frequently," Kagome told him, seeing him nod in agreement.
7. The way you attract a "potential" is:
A. Make lingering eye contact
B. Befriend her mother
C. Compliment her
D. Let her catch a glimpse of you shirtless
E. Tell a funny story
F. Act disinterested - I let her come to me
Miroku smiled, "I usually tend to compliment a lovely young woman when I see her."
"Touching a girl's butt isn't considered a form of complimenting them," Kagome informed him, seeing him shrug.
"I could put on a whole debate about that but I don't think this is the correct time or place," glancing over her shoulder at the slumbering group across the room, he saw her look over her shoulder and nod.
8. In terms of personal space, what's the perfect distance?
A. Double arm's-distance apart
B. Close enough to touch
C. When I can almost tell what she had for lunch
D. No such thing as too close
"Despite what you might think, I do believe in allowing some personal space." Miroku spoke seriously, "So I would have to go with B, close enough to touch."
Kagome smiled, "I like that."
9. When talking to a woman, you tend to:
A. Tilt my head and listen intently
B. Stammer and blush
C. Stare at her
D. Grin seductively
E. Fidget
"I'm not certain, it depends on the woman," Miroku took a moment to think about it.
"This is a woman you're looking to hook up with," Kagome reminded him, "You tend to tilt your head and listen intently."
"Oh really?"
Kagome nodded, "Yep."
Miroku shook his head, "I tend to do that with women I want to be friends with. When I'm really interested in a woman, I usually grin seductively."
"How can you be so sure?" Kagome looked up from the magazine she'd been re-reading and froze.
He was doing it, eyes dark and smoky, one side of his lip lifted in a sexy smirk that sent a chill down her spine. Realizing he meant what he said, Kagome gulped and looked away, back down to shakily write down his answer.
10. Pick-up lines are:
A. Slick
B. A good way to start conversation
C. A little embarrassing
D. Pathetic
"They're fun, a good way to start conversation," Miroku turned playful, "Don't you think so?"
"No, I think they're pathetic," Kagome gave him a cheeky smile but scratched down a B.
11. When you spot a hot prospect, you position yourself:
A. Out of her sight
B. Somewhere in her line of vision
C. Close by
D. Pressed up against her
"Somewhere in her line of vision,"
Kagome bit her pen, "I usually do the same actually, if they can't see you how the heck are they going to notice you?"
Miroku agreed, "And if you're TOO close by you might scare them off by pressing up against them."
"Sure, so you get in their line of vision and THEN move over to grope them, I see," Kagome teased.
12. Do you create situations that result in more interactions with guys you're interested in? (e.g. "Oops! - I accidentally put my sunglasses in your pocket. Mind if I check?")
A. As often as I can
B. Occasionally
C. Rarely
D. Huh?
"Rarely," Miroku grinned, "But YOU do it all the time."
"I do not!" Kagome huffed
"Oh no? Just how cold were you last night Kagome? Cold enough to shiver and really need to roll over and move closer to me?" Seeing the blush that spread over her cheeks, he chuckled and moved a hand to brush her bangs out of her eyes gently.
Kagome gulped but kept up her defense, "It WAS cold last night, you moved closer to me too."
"As if I'd pass up a chance to touch you?" Miroku leaned forward to whisper, not wanting to be overheard just in case the others were to wake. Pecking her on the cheek quickly, he leaned back against the wall and smiled at her sweet blushing.
13. On a night that you're NOT going to see her, you:
A. Fantasize about the next time I'll see her
B. Have a pampering night
C. Drive by to see if she's home
D. Do nothing out of the ordinary
"I must admit I do nothing out of the ordinary," Miroku yawned, feeling a bit tired for some reason and hoping the quiz would end soon.
Seeing him, Kagome yawned also and checked her watch, surprised to find it was barely past ten o'clock, but then again, they did get up at dawn every day so being tired so early was normal. Jotting down his answer, she read the next question aloud and then set the magazine down so she could stretch for a moment.
14. When you're very interested in someone, you tend to:
A. Play fight
B. Ask for a massage
C. Ignore her
D. Compliment her
Miroku looked over at Sango and the others, and seeing how they were all sleeping deeply, reached out to pull her onto his lap, resting her back against his chest. Kagome leaned back into his embrace, grabbing the magazine and waiting for his answer.
"Although a playfight is always fun and a massage is always great, our society hardly allows for those things so normally one must settle for compliments," Miroku kissed her ear and felt her shiver.
"What would you prefer though?" Kagome looked up with a smile.
"A massage," Miroku conceded.
15. When you're talking to a potential, you tend to:
A. Blatantly promote myself
B. Throw in a few impressive facts about myself
C. Tell it like it is
D. Make fun of myself
"What would you say?"
"A" Kagome wrote it down and felt him shrug behind her. [Kami he's so warm! Inuyasha would kill us if he were to see this but he'll stay outside tonight after that argument.] She couldn't help but feel relieved that he wouldn't be back that night, it had been a long week since the last night she'd had with the man holding her.
16. When she's nearby, your confidence:
A. Skyrockets
B. Increases a bit
C. Remains the same
D. Suffers a little
E. Plummets
"Suffers a little," Miroku admitted quietly, arms tightening around her a little.
Kagome nodded and felt a lump in her throat at that. She knew why it suffered, realizing she'd put him in the same position she was in with Inuyasha. Feeling him nuzzle her neck, she turned and cupped his chin, fingers caressing his cheek while she kissed the other softly. He gave a soft chuckle and picked up her magazine, setting it in her lap again, "Last question."
17. Which of the following do you use the most to lure a girl in? Your:
A. Inquisitive mind
B. Charm
C. Body
D. Sense of humor
E. Manipulative brilliance
"Manipulative brilliance?" Miroku joked
"Charm," Kagome corrected him, elbowing his stomach lightly before adding up his total. "Why am I not surprised that you're a Smooth Flirt?"
You've got all the right moves, and you're confident that your target will appreciate all your winks and smiles. All it takes is the perfect line, right? Maybe so, as long as you deliver it with your charm meter set to "stun." Your flirting style is the perfect mix of body language and pure animal magnetism. With you on their trail, how can your prey possibly hope to get away? Seduction is inevitable. Just make sure not to overdo it. There's something to be said for simple, direct conversation. Your way with words and smooth moves guarantee that you'll hit the bullseye.
"Gaurantee huh?" skimming over the other options, he easily found Kagome's type and read it out loud.
Were you just winking at me? I couldn't quite tell... In fact, I think it's pretty safe to say that you're a Subtle Flirt - you're a master of the flirting game. You know how to attract attention from anyone, any time. A quick come-hither smile, a little game of look-away-and-look-back-again - before long you have the object of your affection wrapped around your little finger. One of the best things about your approach is that it's discreet. You can always act innocent and coy if something gets taken out of context or misunderstood. Just make sure you're not too subtle, or you may end up playing the game all by yourself.
"I don't think there's any reason to worry that you'll be playing by yourself," Miroku closed the magazine and set it beside them.
Allowing himself to just enjoy the rare moment with her in his arms, he felt the familiar twinge of regret and longing that had been plaguing him for days. That one kiss by the fire the other night should have helped ease his yearning for the young miko, but had only served to worsen the pain. He had always felt sympathetic towards her at seeing the hurt in her eyes when Inuyasha went after Kikyo. He had stopped feeling that way now that he found himself in the same position, watching her and Inuyasha struggling with their emotions towards one another.
Hearing a soft yelp from across the room, they both stiffened and looked up at Sango, feeling slightly guilty suddenly. It was no secret that the taijiya had feelings for Miroku, despite her arguments and constant beatings of the houshi, there was something in her eyes, in her sudden blushes and smiles. With a sense of betrayal, Kagome moved to pull away from Miroku and was surprised when he let her go far enough to twist her around and capture her startled gasp with his lips.
Unlike their previous kiss, this one was nowhere near the sweet, comforting touch of their last joining. This time they kissed heatedly, clinging to one another like one does to a lifeline. Kagome's arms wrapped around his neck and his slid around her back, crushing her chest tightly to his. They kissed long and hard, but when Kagome's hand lowered between them to get a better hold of him, Miroku broke it off and clentched his hands in her hair.
"Don't," he whispered against her neck, face buried in the crook between her neck and shoulder while he regained his breath. "We can't always put others ahead of our own needs Kagome."
"I guess you're right," Kagome trembled in his arms, heart breaking at the truth in his words. "But I still feel guilty Miroku, gomen nasai, I don't think I can do this..."
"No don't apologize," Miroku sighed and pulled back, gently setting her down in front of him. "I know you well enough to understand how you feel, and I feel a bit guilty as well."
Kagome saw the truth in his words and gave him a shaky smile, "I know."
With a grateful smile in return, he lifted their hands to place a kiss to the back of her palm, releasing it and handing her back the discarded magazine. "That was an interesting quiz Kagome-sama."
"Hai, I figured you'd enjoy it," giving him another peck on the lips, Kagome had just pulled back and sat down when Inuyasha's footsteps could be heard coming down the hallway. Moving to their respective beds, they shared one last smile before laying down to sleep.
At the exact moment when Kagome set her head on her pillow, Inuyasha opened the door and stepped inside, closing it behind him with a grunt. Plopping down beside the wall behind her, he remained silent for a while, his bangs covering his eyes and hiding any emotion from them. Kagome rolled over to look up at him and frowned a little, turning her shoulder to roll back over when his hand on her arm stopped her.
Feeling him move closer and inhale deeply a soft growl sounded in his throat and made her gulp, "Why do you smell like Miroku?"
Quickly searching for an excuse to give him, Kagome glanced over at the houshi and saw him looking over at her also, giving her a reassuring look meaning he wouldn't mind whatever Inuyasha did to him if she told the truth. Feeling angry suddenly at the arrogant hanyou, she turned and raised an eyebrow at him, "I don't know what you're talking about."
The low growling became louder and she saw out of the corner of her eye Miroku wince. "Whatever happens while you're gone is none of your business Inuyasha, now if you don't mind I'd like to get some sleep."
"Bitch what's gotten into you?" Inuyasha let go with a growl.
"Nothing actually, I was in a pretty good mood until you came in here with your attitude," Kagome shrugged and turned her back to him. "Oyasumi Miroku-sama, arigato."
"Hai, oyasumi Kagome-sama."
Snuggling into their blankets, they both drifted off to sleep, ignoring the frustrated hanyou by the wall.
