A cool breeze blew across the lands. Everything was peaceful. The birds were singing joyfully, the trees swayed gently, and all of the villagers were busily working, carefree of worries.
Up high on a hill rested a large and magnificent castle, a castle for the Lord of the Western Lands. But, he was not in this castle at the moment. Earlier, he had decided to set out on a walk and view the land he owned and was currently still doing so.
Behind him crept a small boy. He peeked out of the bushed once in a while to stare at his retreating back before dashing to another bush to hide until he was sure the Great Demon Lord was not aware of his presence. With a cautious step, he proceeded to follow this great man.
After a moment, the boy was very tired of simply dashing, hiding, and staring. He took on a look of determination and walked silently towards the man until he was walking right behind him. His left foot joined in rhythm with the man's left foot and he smiled as he imitated the exact gestures of said man. When the man brought his hand up to scratch his head, the boy did the same, continuing to match his large strides with his small ones.
He was so sure that the man was not aware that he was being followed that he almost forgot to turn as the man looked behind him. Luckily, the boy had done this many times before and was not caught. Instead, he was still very much invisible to the man.
They walked until he reached a clearing. Gulping, the boy suddenly realized there were little to no places to hide in case he was unable to mimic the steps of the Great Demon Lord.
Then, he heard a chuckle. It was at that moment he comprehended that he had been caught.
“Come here son,” the man laughed as he scooped up the boy in his arms and ruffled his hair.
The boy laughed as well, but was disappointed that he had been caught.
“You did well, my boy,” his father congratulated. “I didn't even notice you until a few minutes ago. You're really getting better at your sneak attacks.”
“But, Father. You found me out in the end,” the boy sighed. “I still have much to learn and understand.”
Repositioning his son so that he sat atop his shoulder, his father replied, “Don't we all, Sesshoumaru? Don't we all?”
Slumping against his father, the boy closed his eyes. It was very tiring trying to match the steps of someone much bigger and with longer legs than you. With a yawn, he tucked his hands in the opposite sleeves of his kimono and fell asleep.
His father grinned as he carried the boy back to the castle, where his wife and servants were waiting.
All the while, Sesshoumaru slept, peacefully.

“Sesshoumaru-sama?”
Turning his head to acknowledge the young girl approaching him, Sesshoumaru said simply, “Rin.”
“What were you thinking about, Sesshoumaru-sama?” she asked as she hugged the bouquet of flowers closer to her body. “You were smiling, my lord.”
Turning his head away, Sesshoumaru gazed out at the land that he had inherited. He was the new Lord of the Western Lands, ever since the death of his father had occurred. Not forgetting her question, however, Sesshoumaru answered, “Fond memories, Rin.”
Content with his answer, the girl sat beside him, resting against his shoulder as she brought the flowers up closer so he could see them. “Do you like these flowers, Sesshoumaru-sama? Rin-chan picked them just for your liking.”
Without a word, Sesshoumaru merely picked one flower from the batch, slid it in her raven locks and let that be her answer. She smiled, knowing full well what he meant. Sitting side by side, they gazed out at the land, fond memories flooding through their minds.
