InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ For Love comes on the Wings Of Pain ❯ Prologue ( Prologue )
The silence that was found in every tree, beneath every rock, around every bend and twist in the calm forest was disrupted by the frantic hoof beats of a galloping horse. From deep within the forest a lone figure on a horse burst through the brush and onto the main trail. The cloaked man looked over his shoulder at the twenty horsemen that had followed him from the castle. He urged his tiring horse faster as they reached the boundaries of the Northern Lands. A sigh of relief escaped his mouth as his horse stumbled over the boundary line. Turning to look back on last time an arrow pierced his shoulder, causing him to lurch forward and fall off the galloping horse. He rolled into a ditch, the blanket wrapped bundle hidden within his cloak gently rolled out. He cried out in pain as the arrow was jarred deeper within his body. As eternal darkness over took him, he was relived that the child made no sound.
~The Western Castle~
“What do you mean our allies heir was kidnapped!” a loud gruff voice boomed from within a stone chamber.
“Sire, some man came in with the failing light and snatched the child from the kings own grip. The king now lies in his bed, wounded. The queen is besides herself with worry and the young lord is upset over the child’s disappearance.” a shaky voice said.
In the stone chamber, decorated with tapestries of great dogs, worked in fine silver thread, at the end of the chamber a man sat, his silver hair outlined by the glow the moon cast from the window behind him. He held his hand up and looked at it. “Myoga, I want you to search for this child and find the heir. I would wish my allies to do the same if InuYasha or Sesshomaru would be lost.”
“Yes sire.” a dark splotch on the king’s hand vanished as the flea hopped away.
“Tashio, come to bed. Sitting up so late will not bring the child home.” a calm collected voice said from the doorway of the hall. He smiled down at his wife and stood, smelling the fatigue of dealing with their month old son. He stood and strode over to her.
“Izayoi (I think I spelt it wrong.) my love, let us go to bed.” he said as he took her hand, and led her to the royal bedchambers where an infant wailed it’s protests of the bed it was in, not in his mother’s arms. “The boy sure has some lungs.” Tashio managed to chuckle.
~ The Wolf’s Den~
“Ryoko what is it?” a female wolf demon asked, holding a red-haired pup to her breast.
“There is death in the air. Something must have died close to our cave. Human, or half human by the smell. You two, check it out.” he pointed to two wolf demons with graying hair, elders of the clan. They nodded and stood and proceeded to leave the cave tailed by two graying wolves, their hunting brothers. No wolf demon went without them. Ryoko looked down at his and stroked the large black wolf’s head as it’s bright blue eyes watched the mouth of the cave for any disruptions.
Soon they came back, carrying a ragged bundle. Ryoko stepped back and sniffed. “You found a human child?” he asked as he gently took it from them. He peeled back the blanket and found his blue orbs drawn in by the lighter blue of the child he held in his arms.
“We found it by a dead man, he was shot by an arrow.” one of them said as they sat back down. The wolves laid at their feet.
“We must not let it live then. It should follow it’s comrade in death.” Ryoko said as he raised a clawed hand.
“Wait!” a male voice shouted from the back of the cave. They turned to see a young wolf demon from the western tribe.
“What is it Koga?” Ryoko asked as he lowered his hand.
“We have no pups in our pack. Allow me to take the pup back to my lands. Allow me to raise it like it was my own.” Koga said in his youthful voice, a voice full of vigor.
“Granted.” Ryoko said as he handed the child to Koga who cradled the pup in his arms.
“It’s a female.” Koga smiled brightly, for females were rare in the wolf demon clans. “Kagome. I shall name you Kagome. For you shall be the jewel of my pack.” the wolf lifted a claw and lightly stroked his adopted daughter’s face.
