InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ For The Love of An Enemy ❯ Letting Go ( Chapter 15 )
Letting Go
The sun shined brightly, brilliant in its golden splendor. Flowers were blooming, leaving traces of color throughout the land. Spring was nearly here. Her season her mate had deemed it.
For the first time, life was truly beautiful. She had won the battle, and found her love. She had finally reunited with her long lost friends. It was a tearful reunion, a happy one, but tearful nonetheless. Sango and Miroku had finally confessed their love and were getting married. Kagome had adopted Shippou and he now lived in the castle and he had found a best friend in Rin. Sesshoumaru finally possessed the Tetsusaiga, a sword he had spent most of his life fighting for. After their battle with Naraku, he had refused to use it. Instead he put it on display in his study. He had everything he wanted, everything he desired, he no longer yearned for the power of the sword, he didn't need it. Everything seemed to be perfect, but Kagome knew there was still one last thing she had to do, one more thing she had to face before she moved on with her life.
That was why she was here, that was why she had come to the place that held so many painful memories, a place that remembered her sorrow and grief. She was standing before the God Tree, the place she had first met Inu Yasha.
"Inu Yasha" she started, placing a hand on the bark of the tree, much as she had done months before. "There's so much I want to say, but I can't find the words." She began, as silent tears began to roll down her cheeks. After all this time the hanyou still had the power to evoke such deep feelings from her. "You were my first love and my first heartache. I loved you, despite your many faults I loved you, truly. But you chose her, your own first love, and you forced me to face myself and to the find the strength to live…without you. I hated you for a long time, hated you for choosing her and for betraying me. But once I had found my own love, my own fate, I realized you could not betray me, you could not when you were simply following your heart. Your heart was yours to give. Sesshoumaru, the brother you thought had no heart, the demon I thought could not feel, has given me a love that cannot be touched, not even by you. I can forgive your choice and the hurt you blindly caused me. I can forgive you, and I can forget you because that is what I must do to leave the past behind and begin my future. Good bye…Inu Yasha." She finally whispered as she wiped the tears from her eyes. She touched the tree one last time, her mind recalling the very first time she met him, pinned to a tree and demanding her to release him.
With a smile she turned and walked away, absently rubbing the mark at her neck, the mark of her mate, she walked away from the tree that had started it all, she walked away from Inu Yasha and into the loving arms of her only love, her true love, Sesshoumaru.
