Chapter One: Sacrifice

By: Diren Dark.

I smiled; my parents and I were finally taking some quality time together. We were holding hands and of course, I was in the middle of the two. What a rare treat I thought.

We kept walking toward the forest, which was forbidden or else I won't be told not to go near it. I think I was told over a million times never go near the forest or the demons will eat you.

But why now?

Heading toward the forest I felt a weird turn in the pit of my stomach. Suddenly we stop, right in front of the mountain of trees. That's when I felt my stomach whirled around like some kind of tornado.

My daddy went down on to his hunches, so he was around the same eye level as I. “Sweetie, mommy and daddy need you to go into the forest and get us a herb, ok?” he said in a soft and gentle voice. I hesitated a bit at first, but my parents would never put in harm. They love me.

Walking out of my parents grasp and slowly toward the forest. Turning my head, I saw my mommy pointing to a tree, not so far from I stand. “Go to the tree and get us the flower that lies under it.” Told my mommy.

Taking a deep breath I started to walk, getting closer to the flower and farer away from my parents. I pulled the flower out of the ground, then another, and then another. Looking at it made my fears go away, only for a second. It is a beautiful colour, purple and violent.

I heard something like a snake or a tree groaning on a windy day. Scared, I turned to face my parents. Only to see veins of the forest covering the only exits to my village. Running full speed with the flowers still in my hand; trying desperately not to be separate from my mommy and daddy.

My parents just stood there, as if they were dead. They didn't even show any emotions in their hollow eyes as I cried for help.

The veins came together, making a barrier. Crashing into the green wall and soon slipping down the ground, digging my small finger to make a hole for me to crawl out to the other side. It was no use. I am trapped in this world were demons live.

“Mamma, Daddy!! Are you there; what's going on!! I'm scared, help me!!” I cried in a horsed voice. A trickle of salt ran down my cheek as I realized that my beloved parents would not come get me from this demon forest. No', I thought in angry, `they would never do this to me. They have no reason to do this.' That thought gave some happiness in my small heart and as I sat down on the ground and wiped my tears away. I told myself that their going to go find help and get, so I should just wait here patiently.

A howl groaned in to dark forest, followed with others. I know that they were hungry, it had to be that or it wouldn't sound so scary.

Getting up from my spot and started to find my own way out, I didn't want to stay here anymore.

I kept walking in a straight line; turning my head constantly to see if any demons were here. THUMP went behind me. My breaths turned short and strutted. I felt sweat trickled down my face. I ever so slowly turned my head around to see what made that sound. A she-demon. It was in human form. It had long silver hair, two red strips on the cheeks and glowing red eyes. I could see her long teeth poke out of her mouth as she grinned.

I screamed with all my might and ran, throwing the flowers away, as the claws of the she demon tried to rip me in half. She howled in angry and chased her prey, me.

Thrones and twigs scrapped my lily skin, but I couldn't stop running. My legs had a mind of it's on. “AAAHHH!!!” I screamed for the third time today; this time it was for I fell down a cliff. I winced in pain as I painfully hit the ground. “I might as well die here,” mumbled to myself.

The howl, not so far away, brought me back to reality. I can't give up, I wouldn't give up. I pushed myself off the rocky ground and began to walk. Pain shot through my legs. I looked down to see scratches upon scratches on my legs. My knees are badly bleeding; I can't see myself walk anymore. But I can't just let that she demon eat me. `No,' was all I thought as I continued my way through the forbidden forest.

“AAAAHHHHH!” screamed a voice of a young girl, inside the forbidden forest. The two parents remain outside, listening to their daughter.

“Oh Kouichi,” the mother who was referring to husband said, “do you think we did the right thing and sacrifice our only daughter?” Now unleashing tears which were held back till now.

“ Aiko, we had no choice. Priest Ekki said this the only way for the village to live in peace.”

“Yes that is true Kouichi,” spoke a new voice from behind; “she will save us from the demons, just what the gods above told me in my slumber.” The priest smiled a gentle smile on his wrinkly face. “Don't worry,” he spoke, “it was for the best. Now come on, we must go back to the village.”

I greedily gasped the air. I run for a couple of hours, I think. Turning my head to see if that demon was still behind me, I thought by now she would have caught me.

“Oaf.”

I hit something hard and fell on the rough ground, once again. Looking up to see what I crushed into. A dog demon and with two icy golden orbs staring down into my soul. There were two maroon strips on each of his checks and a crescent moon in the colour of purple right in the middle of his forehead.

He tossed his silver mane over his armed shoulder and a fluffy thingy too. He was definably a dog demon. I knew because my grandpa, who lives in a shrine, told my stories of demon. Mostly he spoke about dog demons.

His clawed hand took a hold of the collar of my shirt and started dragging me. I could barely catch up with him. My bruised feet kept stumbling over each other; during this long run from the demons, my shoes fell off. Again I stumbled and scraped my tender flesh. That dog demon in the warrior outfit didn't even have a flicker of emotion in his eyes. My feet are bleeding here because of him and he doesn't care.

`Demons are way too cruel,' I thought angrily in my head, ` I'd like to smack that girly look right off of his face now!!!'

Yanking myself away, I started to run. When I looked back, the demon just stared at me, doing nothing to stop me. I look what was in front of me, only to stop in totally fear.

“D-d-demons”. I managed to mumble my words out.

And it wasn't like there were three or four demons; in fact there were a whole village in front of me. Their bloodlust eyes all focused on me. I numbed when I saw one of the demons lick his lips and locked eyes with mine. Out of nowhere the emotionless demon from early appeared behind me like magic.

“Call my father and the rest of the family,” the icy words slipped out of his lips, “ tell them it's dinner time.”
