Kagome woke to feeling that something was wrong. The room was still filled with darkness meaning sawn had yet to come. Looking around from her position laying down she couldn't see anything. Rolling over she sat up grateful that the male beside her let her willingly sit up.
“Mate?” Shunkai grumbled in his sleep pulling her closed.
Looking around the room Kagome flexed he still weak powers and spread them over the grounds. Finding nothing odd she lay back down, but the feeling didn't change.
Staring at he ceiling Kagome listened. The only sounds that came to her were the sounds of life outside and the snoring of the occupants of the castle.
Lifting her mate's arm she pushed the covers away and stood.
“Mate?” Shunkai was instantly awake sitting up in bed. He didn't look happy.
“Something is wrong.” Grabbing her miko sword she crept towards the door.
“I sense nothing. Return to bed.”
“But… please, something is wrong. I'm serious here.”
Shunkai sighed. Why did he have to find the stubborn one who didn't know when to listen? “Kagome.”
Shunkai sighed. Why did he have to find the stubborn one who didn't know when to listen? “Kagome.”
Looking between the door and the male in the bed Kagome was lost. Looking up to the ceiling she mentally prayed.
It took only seconds for her prayer to be answered as a knock echoed through the room.
“What?” Shunkai growled not happy.
“My Lord the has been a breach of the grounds.” A guard called through the door.
Tossing the covers to the side Shunkai began dressing. “You will stay here Kagome.”
Kagome stared at him appalled. Gripping the sword tighter in her hand she growled.
“Do not challenge me, I am in no mood. Remain here and should you leave these walls your punishment will be severe.”
In a flourish of robes Shunkai left the room. Not at all happy, Kagome dressed but remained where she was.
Inu Tashio leapt from his balcony onto the roof and up to the spire of a tower. He watched as his sons slip up and began to search for the intruder. He could smell panther in the air but the smell seemed to be everywhere at once. Growling in frustration he watched the shadows in wait.
Kagome sat on the edge of the bed and threw her aura over the lands. “Tell me to stay, like a common dog.” Although through her grumbling she didn't leave the room. Holding her sword up to look at the blade Kagome let out a sigh.
Something shimmered against her aura and her head snapped up in alarm and caution. Scanning the room she saw nothing. Standing Kagome looked again.
”Show yourself.” She growled holding her sword at waist level. There was no reply and she called out again. Still waiting for any idea of who was in the room with her Kagome pulled her aura in and focused. Instinct told her to block and she threw up her sword feeling the vibrations of metal on metal shake all the way to her shoulder. The pressure went away and she had a heartbeat to turn and block again. Trying to cover her back Kagome backed to the window and bent her knees ready for anything.

Inu Tashio looked over the land again. Not much had changed since his reign but he could help the feeling of something wrong that ran through his veins. His attention snapped to the window of the closest tower as it shattered and his daughter-in-law went flying out in a rain of glass. Watching in horror he let out a sigh of relief as she corrected herself and landed in the courtyard. Jumping he landed and went to speak when she turned to him and tackled him to the ground. She jumped back up instantly and he heard the clash of swords. Kagome held strong but cried out as her clothing ripped and a cut appeared on her ribs. Inu Tashio could tell it was a attack aimed at her heart.
“Kagome!”
Kagome jumped to avoid a midsection attack but didn't count on getting thrown back to the ground at bone-crushing speed. Placing a barrier around herself the second before she landed it took most of the damage but not all.
Standing again breathing hard and in pain Kagome felt the auras of her mate and best friend. “If I get in trouble I'm going to kill you then revive you and go it over again.” Rushing forward Kagome dodged to the left and swung knowing she missed.
Shunkai looked at the scene in front of him, his father stood by watching as his mate played with herself in the courtyard. He and his brother stopped to stand and watch.
“Kagome!” Inu Yasha cried aat his side as the wind caught the scent of her blood.
Spinning Kagome blocked and let out a purifying blast from her hand. Jumping she leapt back 3 times in hope to get a rest but had no such luck. Whatever thing that was attacking her wanted only her. Swinging blindly Kagome jumped to keep her back clear but couldn't move fast enough, feeling the cold steel pierce her chest and slice cleanly threw. Shocked, she grabbed the blade and held it feeling the futile attempts of it to be removed. Looking at her hand she gripped the sword in it harder and swung feeling the blade cut threw bone. As the sword cleared it's target in a spray of blood the assailant became visible once more. The head rolled away and the body slumped to the ground in a bloody heap.
Kagome coughed and pulled the short sword from her chest. Blinking back the pain she pushed away the guards trying to help her. A circle of spectators watched now, when they had appeared she didn't know.
Looking up through her hair she looked at her friends, father-in-law, and lastly her mate. Flinching at the sight of his angry eyes she forced herself to stand strong.
“You disobay me again.” Shunkai called across the field.
“Son, she didn't have much of a choice.” Inu Tashio tried to reason. After all it wasn't Kagome's fault.
“Silence.” Striding forward it was next to impossible to control his anger. Before a bloody Kagome stood obviously in pain and exhausted. He knew she didn't have the strength to defend herself as his hand slapped her face knocking her to the ground.
Kagome fell barely having time to brace before she fell to the ground. Muscles locked and she didn't bother to try and stay on her hands and knees.
“You are weak.” Shunkai growled. “You have endangered my pups, and have made a fool of this one. For that you will be punished.” From his fingers fell a single poison whip.
“Don't do it.” Inu Tashio said stepping forward but was blasted back by his own son's barrier.
Kagome felt the snap of the whip across her unguarded back. IT wasn't long before she was totally numb and had lost count of the cracks of the whip.
“May that teach you.” Shunkai said panting all of a sudden very weak himself. Turning he dropped that barrier and began to walk away.
“Rot in hell.” Kagome's weak voice filled the courtyard as a dark light surrounded her. Struggling to stand she leaned heavily on her sword.
“Do not push me bitch.” Shunkai snapped turning and striking out again with his whip.
Kagome didn't try to stop his attack feeling it wrap around her neck. The pain didn't last long as she purified it and pulled on more of her strength.
“Go to hell.” Kagome pulled on everything she had and threw it at the man in front of her.
Shunkai felt his barrier break under her attack and flew across the courtyard into the castle. His body slipped from the stones to lay in the dirt.
Coughing and falling to her knees Kagome willed herself home.
Inu Yasha watched the whole scene in horror. It wasn't until his father's voice broke the trace did he relize Kagome was gone.
“Inu Yasha. Kagome has undoubtedly returned to her time. Since you are the only one who can pass, I feel you should go, tend her. I will deal with things here.”
Inu Yasha nodded and ran.
Inu Tashio stood over his son, the man looked up at him clearly as injured as his mate had been. “You are a fool and a disgrace.” Turning he walked away. No one moved to help their lord up, not even his faithful servant who had been the first to turn from his wounded Lord.
Kagome stared weakly at the ceiling of the well house. Everything felt so heavy to her but she found enough strength to pull herself out of the well and onto the floor.
Inu Yasha felt his demon rising but welcomed it, the trees blurring around him as his speed increased. The well appeared and he didn't slow as he leapt and embraced the light. Kagome's blood assaulted his nose as he leapt out of the well and to her side. She was breathing hard and blood was beginning to pool around her.
“Stay with me Kags.” He whispered kneeling beside her.
“Ba..barrier.” She wheezed.
Understanding clearly he took both his sword and her own and embedded them in the ancient wood of the well effectively shutting it off to all travelers except him or her.
As soon as the deed was done Inu Yasha carried an unconscious Miko into the Shrine, already dreading the worst.
He couldn't smell anyone, the place had been empty for days, even outside not a single soul walked. Laying his best friend on the table he took the stairs in one leap and rushed to get the extra medical supplies. When he returned he didn't bother with her modesty or the bottle caps of the alcohol. Shredding the red kimono he ripped the fabric away and poured the bottles over the blistering flesh. The gaping hole that had been a stab wound was crusted with blood but the poison from the acid whip had melted the edges causing it to bleed again.
Grabbing the dish towel he lightly rubbed away everything to reveal the abused flesh. When the towel became useless Inu Yasha pulled off his own robe and continued to clean.
Kagome felt the poison in her veins. She also felt Inu Yasha's aura above her and the emptiness of the house.
“Inu?” Still weak Kagome coughed and leaned over whatever she was on to empty her stomach. She felt him grab her hair and hold it back as her stomach continued to empty even after nothing was left.
“It's okay, you're safe. No one is here and hasn't been for days. I'll fix you up like all those times you fixed me.”
“I don't wanna go back.” She whined feeling like she was 4 again.
Inu Yasha placed a cool rag on her neck. “You can go back when you want. You don't ever have to go back if you don't want to.”
“Good.” She again fell into the darkness of sleep.
Shunkai and Sesshomaru both couldn't understand why they were so weak. And to top off their anger their mate was gone and no one would tend them. It was humiliating and annoying. Both knew that the way they were being treated was only fair. In her short time, Kagome had captured a piece of every person in the castle. She gave the castle light and many other things. Now because of his anger she was gone and everyone blamed him. His brother had yet to return with news of his mate and no one would speak to him, even when threatened. Letting out a frustrated growl he knew he had dug a hole this time, the question now was, what did he need to do to fix it?
