Chapter 6- Behind the Smile

A/N-Well, I just couldn't resist…I had to update! I swear, you guys will like this chapter…I hope!

 

“Inuyasha, why don't you go apologize to her?” Sango suggested at the lunch table. Kagome was sitting far away from Inuyasha and just staring at her food.

“Why should I apologize?! I didn't do anything!” Inuyasha shouted.

“Yes, but you could have made her feel better.” Miroku said. “If you hadn't just stood there and stared at her, she might have felt more comfortable.”

“I don't think she meant it anyway.” Sango said. “One would have to be an idiot to fall in love with you.”

Inuyasha growled. “Sango, watch it!”

“Look, all we're saying is to spend time with Kagome. Maybe she just isn't sure about her feelings and I'm sure an hour with you will change them.” Miroku said as he and Sango busted out laughing.

Inuyasha growled again. “You guys are such losers!” He said standing up to throw his trash away.

Kagome could hear every word they were saying. `I don't love him. It just came out wrong. I care about him, but don't love him…' She turned and looked at Inuyasha as he sat down. His eyes met her's and she quickly bowed her head back down in it's original position. `I should probably tell him. I mean, it's so tense with us right now.'

Kagome started her long walk home from school as Inuyasha caught up to her.

“Kagome! Hey, wait.” He shouted.

“What?” She asked not even bothering to look at him.

“Ka…” Inuyasha growled. “Kagome! Would you quit with that?! It's pissing me off!”

Kagome inhaled and was ready to tell him about her feelings.

“I feel the same.”

Kagome gasped. `What? He loves me too? But it's only been 3 months and…'

“I feel things between us have been tense since last night.”

`Oh…'

“So,” Inuyasha looked up at her and smiled. “I wanted to apologize for whatever I did. Because, Kagome, your relationship with me is far too important to ruin by some silly words that I bet you didn't even mean.”

Kagome smiled. “Yeah?”

“I already feel closer to you than I do to Sango and Miroku.” He said.

Kagome giggled. “Maybe it's because I'm not picking on you 24/7.”

“Yeah. Oh, hey…you wanna just hang out at my house tonight? There's some one I want you to meet.”

“I'd love to!” Kagome said happily. `Even if he doesn't love me, I'm still happy to know that he feels close to me. It makes me feel like I can stay with him longer. Like I can stay by his side.'

“What a big house.” Kagome said stepping inside and taking her shoes off.

“Yeah, my brother's pretty rich.” Inuyasha said.

“Inuyasha! You're here!” Rin ran up to the door and hugged him.

“Yeah, hi Rin.”

She let him go and looked the girl next to him over. “Wow, she's pretty. Is this Kikyo?” Rin asked.

Kagome smiled. “I'm Kagome. I'm just a friend of Inuyasha's.” She said kneeling down so she was eye-level with the girl.

“I'm Rin.” Rin said hugging Kagome. “Oh Inuyasha! Sesshoumaru asked if you wouldn't bother him…he's busy.” Rin said turning to Inuyasha.

“With what?!” Inuyasha snapped.

“Well, Kagura came over to help him `get out of his pants'” Rin said dumbly. “I think it's one of those metaphors people use to describe relaxation.”

Kagome giggled.

“Rin, go to your room.” Inuyasha was pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Aww…she's so cute!” Kagome squealed.

“Yeah, and a pain in the ass.” Inuyasha added. “Well, I guess you won't be meeting Sesshoumaru.”

“Is that who you wanted me to meet?” Kagome asked walking up the stairs.

“No, he's in my room…just a sec.”

Inuyasha came out two minutes later holding a furry little ball.

“What is it?” Kagome asked looking it up and down.

“It's Shippo!” He said holding it out in front of her. The ball finally poofed and turned into a little fox-like child.

Kagome nearly had tears in her eyes. “He…he's so adorable!”

Shippo opened his eyes and looked at Kagome. “Hey! I know you!”

Inuyasha winced.

“You're the girl all over Inu-“ Inuyasha put a hand over his mouth to cover it.

“What?” Kagome asked confused.

“Nothing.” Inuyasha sighed and set Shippo down.

“So, I know your face… and let me guess your name.”

“Okay.” Kagome said.

“He likes to do these little `magic tricks'” Inuyasha said.

“Kagome.” Shippo finally said.

“Wow…” Kagome looked back up at Inuyasha. “He's good!”

“Wanna see a really cool one?” Shippo asked.

“Yeah, do another one.” Kagome said clapping her hands.

Shippo grabbed a hair off Inuyasha's head and placed it on his own. He then just turned into Inuyasha.

“Aww…how cute!” Kagome cooed.

Inuyasha snarled and punched Shippo. “It gets annoying after a while.”
“You're just jealous!” Shippo said sticking out his tongue.

“Sure what ever.”

Shippo yawned and looked outside. It was already dark. “Inuyasha, I'm getting tired. I think I'll go back to sleep.”

“Oh, I'm sorry…You weren't sleeping before this were you?” Kagome asked.

“I was, but it was totally worth the while to wake up. I enjoyed meeting you.” Shippo said holding her hand in his tiny paw and kissing it lightly.

Inuyasha growled and threw him into the bedroom and closed the door after the satisfying sound of him crashing into the wall.

“Inuyasha!” Kagome said. “You can't treat him like that!”

“Sure I can!”

“How is Shippo related to you?” Kagome asked.

“He's my…well…he's kind of like my son.”

Kagome cocked an eye brow at him.

“Well, adopted son. Sesshoumaru and I found him one night digging out of our trash can. It was the same night his parents were murdered.”

“Murdered?” Kagome asked.

“Yeah, some two lame wads killed them in front of the poor kid.”

“Oh…” Kagome looked down. “Well, Inuyasha, thanks for bringing me over. I had a blast!” She slipped her shoes on.

“Bye Kagome!” Inuyasha said as she walked out the door.

Inuyasha opened his door to his room and sat down on the bed. He turned on his side to face the wall covered in pictures of a girl. She looked about thirteen and like a mix between Kikyo and Kagome. Inuyasha sighed. `Maybe Kagome is the one I've been looking for.' He thought remembering her smile. It wasn't like Kikyo's, it was like this girl on the wall. He stood up and looked at one of the pictures of the girl smiling. `Yeah…'

“Inuyasha.” Shippo spoke up.

“Yeah?” He asked still deep in thought looking at the picture in his hand.

“I think…the girl you're looking for is Kagome.”

Inuyasha just nodded. “Yeah, me too.” He sighed and set the picture back down before crawling back into bed.
