Chapter 2 - Him
He could see that setting sun in the distance on the balcony he stood on. He was alone in the world; with the exception of his hanyou, half-brother. He could honestly say that his half-brother hardly counted as company.
He could see his brother in the hallways, always moping around for the wench named Kikyo. He would always roll his eyes as he passed his brother. He knew that this moping around, and depression, was a human trait, a human characteristic. So, he had decided not to get involved.
He continued to watch the sun. It was beautiful, he would admit, but the glowing sun, with its bright streaks of yellow and orange, were not what made him feel the power he loved.
He would always wait for the moon.
The moon had a certain glow to it that made him feel more powerful. It was like the moon itself was his power surge; almost like the moon was his drug that he could get off of. Only the drug was power.
He loved the feeling of being more powerful then anyone else. It was like someone had made him the ruler of the land but not through government. No; nothing like that. It was through the power he held over everybody.
He could tell that everybody feared him. He had that cold, cruel voice that everybody shivered when hearing it. He had that tall, built exterior that everybody frowned out, wishing they had his body. He had his long flowing Silver hair that everybody envied.
He knew that he was handsome and cruel. The two combinations that brought all the women he knew to his bed. The combinations that he knew powered over everybody.
He smirked slightly. His train of thought was pleasing him immensely. He knew though that sometime soon it would be broken. He could smell the stench of his brother coming closer to his room.
“Sesshomaru!” his brother called as his thoughts came crashing down and he was brought back to reality.
He looked over at the entrance to his room which was where his brother was now standing. He then looked back to the sun which was almost gone and forgotten to the sky above.
He smiled inwardly as he could feel the moon approaching the sky, making everything dark around; making him feel more powerful.
“Sesshomaru you have to see this.” Inu-yasha called out to his brother once again. He could feel his brother coming closer to him as he showed him the yearbook he had collected.
“What is it Inu-yasha? You are disturbing me at the moment. It would be kind of you just to leave me alone if this is about Kikyo.” He said, coldly.
Inu-yasha shook his head looking at his brother in vein. “Fluffy, you bastard, just look at this!”
He growled at the nickname that was given to him at that moment and looked at the book that was being pushed into his face. He then grabbed the yearbook and looked at the girl that looked like his brother's past lover. She seemed to have tried to hide her face from the camera but failed miserably.
“What does this have to do with me?”
“Well you know everybody at the school. Do you know who she is?” Inu-yasha asked looking at his brother hopefully.
“No…” Sesshomaru then looked confused for seconds as he then turned away from his brother. He faced the balcony and walked towards it.
The moon was up.
“Now leave me brother.” Inu-yasha nodded. “Leave the book behind.”
With that he walked to the balcony and let the moon drench him in its light. It was his comfort; his one and only comfort. He was hoping it would stay that way too. He didn't want anybody to come between him and his power.
He vowed silently that nothing would come between though the girl in the yearbook was bothering him.
How could he not know who she was at all?
He knew everybody; right?
He turned away from the balcony and walked over to the year book. It was on his bed which was decorated with silver and gold silk sheets; just like the rest of his room.
He picked up the book and opened it, looking through the pages to the girl. He eventually found her. She was wearing a black sweater in the picture which matched her raven, black hair that flew down just above her shoulders. She had the same colour skin as Kikyo which made him shudder but the shudder stopped mid-way when his eyes looked upon her eyes in the picture.
Her eyes were a strong blue and violet. They were like looking at the sky, when the sun was rising, and it was cloudy.
He couldn't help but to continue to stare.
He then looked at her neck and saw a bruise. He wondered silently how he could have missed it. His claws traced the bruise as it seemed to pop, more and more, out too him. It almost seemed like she had been trying to cover it.
As soon as he realized that she had been trying to cover it some other bruised that marked her face were popping out too him. He came to the conclusion that she was either really clumsy or something was terribly wrong.
He shook his head, “Why should I care?” He then closed the book and threw it the floor. He lay then lay up in own bed looking out to the balcony.
The moon was as beautiful as he had always remembered. It was the only thing he could remember throughout his childhood that seemed to ever make sense to him. That didn't matter though. What mattered was that he could always look at the moon and he knew it would stay the same.
It was that basis of consistency that made him like the moon much more then just the power he would get from it. He didn't know why the consistency felt good but it did.
“Sesshomaru?” a quiet voice said. It was annoying and high pitched; almost like a toad was talking to him. He looked at the owner of the voice and found it was none other then Jaken. He was the toad that he had kept only because he was useful to use as a punching bag for his brother, Inu-yasha.
“Jaken,” he growled throwing a pillow in the toad's direction. “It would be in your best interest not to bother me at this moment.”
Jaken bowed slightly at him and left quickly and quietly. “Yes Milord” he croaked on his way out and Sesshomaru growled once again.
He then laid himself back down on the silk dreams; finally letting his mind drift again to another train of thoughts.
His power.
He held power over, not only the school, but the world. His father had died protecting Inu-yasha's mother. This left the family estate to him. Everything his father had, including the money, the fame, and the power over the largest business corporation in Japan.
He didn't feel like he had to, even though in all reality he had to uphold his father's legend, he loved the feeling of the power as he walked down the hallways to the corporation. He loved that everybody bowed to him as he walked to his office. It was like he was royalty and he wanted that feeling to last.
He looked up at the moon for one last glimpse. The power was radiating off of it which made him smile.
“This Sesshomaru will sleep well tonight.”
