Chapter 2: Feudal Beginnings

 

They found Kouga holding Kagome's hands with an angry half-demon breathing down his neck.

 

“Don't worry, sis, he only does that to annoy Inuyasha…he's over Kagome” Ginta whispered to Kumiko.

 

Inuyasha and Kouga then faced off and started a growling fight. Meanwhile, Kagome finally saw Kumiko.

 

“Kumiko! Ginta, Hakkaku!” Kagome called joyfully and ran over to hug her.

 

Shippo, then, hopped off Kagome's shoulder into Kumiko's arms, “KUMIKO!”

 

“Kumiko”, “Lady Kumiko” Sango and Miroku said in turn, turning away from the battling canines.

 

In the background they heard Tetsusaiga being unsheathed, followed by “mangy wolf!”

 

“Sit boy!” Kagome called without even looking back. Inuyasha slammed into the ground, face first, and muttered a few choice curses.

 

Kouga turned and strode over to Kumiko who was smiling sheepishly and being bombarded with questions. “Yo, Kagome…I just remembered why I came to see you.”

 

Everyone quieted down and Kagome smiled, “Why's that, Kouga?”

 

“Kumiko lost her memory…or had different memories…I dunno, I was wondering if you could tell her how she came here.”

 

“You don't remember anything?” Sango asked.

 

“Well, I just woke up in the den, but before that I was living in Kagome's time…In America…” and she told them all about the show called “Inuyasha”.

 

“Well, there's definitely no show like that in Japan” Kagome responded.

 

“Well, Kouga says I was traveling with you first, so, do you know how I got here?” asked Kumiko.

 

“Well, you knew me from school and you followed me through the well.”

 

“So I lived in Japan? Then, why are we speaking in English?” Kumiko asked.

 

“We're not speaking in English…you're speaking in Japanese.”

 

“I am so confused!”

 

“Well, I'll just continue and maybe something will come back to you” Kagome said hopefully, “You came over to get some notes from me and saw me go into the well house. When you got there, you saw the blue light of the time slip and were worried so you climbed in after me. For some reason the time slip let you through. I was talking to Inuyasha and Shippo when you climbed up after me.”

 

“No…you were yelling at me and said `it'!” Inuyasha grumbled as he stomped over to them after the subjugation had worn off.

 

“You were picking on Shippo!” Kagome spat back.

 

“What happened after that?” Kumiko asked to interrupt their rapidly escalating argument.

 

“Oh…well…I took you to meet Sango and Miroku and explained that this is where I went when I wasn't in school” Kagome continued, “but then, Inuyasha said you should go back home, so we went back to the well.”

 

“Inuyasha forced her to go back home because he didn't want any more `stupid humans' hanging around” Shippo supplied before hiding behind Kumiko to avoid being thumped by Inuyasha.

 

“So, why am I still here?” Kumiko asked, eager for more answers.

 

“The well wouldn't let you back through, so you began traveling with us” Miroku said, throwing in his trademark sparkling smile.

 

“So, how did I end up with Kouga?”

 

“He showed up one day to see Kagome and he smiled at you and you liked him” said Shippo from his position now on her shoulder, “a couple of days later you got Inuyasha to take you to his den.”

 

“I see…” Kumiko said, blushing, “well, that still doesn't explain why I don't have those memories.”

 

“You still don't remember anything?” Kouga asked with a frown.

 

“No, sorry”

 

“Do you think this has anything to do with Naraku or his disappearance?” asked Sango.

 

“Why not? Everything here seems to revolve around him” Kumiko replied.

 

“Too true” agreed Miroku.

 

“What happened before Naraku disappeared?” asked Kumiko.

 

“We were following him, looking for that stupid baby and he trapped us inside this oni's stomach…” Inuyasha replied.

 

“That's when you used the jewel shard to get out?”

 

“Yeah, but we have been looking for him ever since” Inuyasha continued, “he just disappeared.”

 

“Well, I'm sorry I can't help, but that's where the show ended…so, I don't know what happens next.”

 

“That's ok, Kumiko, we'll just keep going on like always” Kagome smiled.

 

“Alright, let's get going Kumiko” Kouga said.

 

Kumiko said her goodbyes and hugged Sango, Kagome and Shippo. She wished them luck before following Kouga back into the forest. Ginta and Hakkaku waved hurriedly to Kagome and followed after their leader.
