She sat at a rock near the edge of a river, looking at her reflection. The water rippled gracefully beneath here, as if it were singing. Singing about nothing, and everything.

When Kagome was trying to get up, she almost lost her balance, but managed to grab a weed growing firmly on a small cliff behind her. She then climbed that cliff, careful not to fall. As the young miko got up, she dusted herself off and ran towards the group of travelers a short distance ahead.

Kagome jogged quickly, her mind jumbled with thoughts and feelings that she did not understand, no matter how much she tried.

“Ready to go, Lady Kagome?” asked Miroku. Kagome smiled and nodded her head. She had known Miroku for almost two years. She loved him dearly… like a brother of course.

Then there was Sango, her best friend. The miko knew she would always be able to count on Sango.

“What the hell took you so long? It doesn't take a fuck'n hour to wash your face!” Inuyasha interrupted Kagomes thoughts.

“Sorry…” usually the young woman would talk back and argue with the hanyou, but she didn't feel like doing so at the time. Instead, she just smiled widely.

“Bitch…” he rolled his eyes and continued, “Let's get going, we still have shards to find.”

Kagome just nodded and followed the group with Shippou perched on her shoulders. The miko looked ahead of her, still smiling. Inuyasha…. Inuyasha… he was more then that of a friend to her, more then a sibling… there was just something about the hanyou that made the miko want to spend every moment of her life with. She wanted to be with him… she couldn't understand her feeling… it felt too surreal. But them again Kagome was only 18 going on 19. How could she understand something deep like that?

Sighing, she looked at the couple beside her. Miroku was glancing at Sango's rear. Kagomes smile widened. Sango and Miroku belonged together. They were meant to be. Too bad the demon slayer was too naive to admit it.

“Kagome, can you let me down please?” asked Shippou.

“Sure.” Kagome loved Shippou like she was her own child… well; at least that's what everyone told her.

The group walked to what seemed like five minutes to Kagome, but when she finally snapped back to reality, it was evening.

“Why the hell are you smiling so big?” the hanyou asked curiously.

“Nothing, just in a good mood is all.” Kagome then smiled wider.

“Whatever, lets set up camp here, its already late, and this is the best I could find.” announced Inuyasha.

“Thank you!” Kagome cheered happily.

“Kagome, are you all right?” asked the demon slayer worriedly.

“I'm fine, just feel so… happy.”

A few hours passed and the group had already eaten, and settled to go to sleep. Kagome and Sango in their sleeping bags, and Miroku in some old blanket, which he claimed will restore his spiritual power over the night. And Inuyasha was up in his tree, with Kagome under it.

The next morning the gang got ready to travel once again, in search for the Shikon shards. After a few hours of walking they came to a small village. After introducing themselves, the gang was sent to a small room with paintings covering every part of the four walls.

Finally, an old man entered the room and took a seat in front of the group.

“I have heard many legends of ye travelers. That ye are in search of thee shards of thee Shikon Jewel. I also have heard thee help villages in need. Would thy not take time to kill thee demon attacking our village?” asked the old man.

Miroku smiled and nodded.

After some time, arrangements were made that Inuyasha was to kill a toad demon in exchange for food, shelter and other commodities.

That night, the gang went to the nearby forest looking for their prey.

[During the battle]

An oversized toad came from behind the trees, “Who dares enter my forest!?”

“We do!” Inuyasha replied, seeing that the toad was not much of a threat to him.

“Well then, your foolish acts will cost you your life!” the creature boomed.

“Feh…”

The toad opened his large mouth when Inuyasha attacked him, releasing a dark purple substance, which landed on the hanyou right arm. But, none-the-less, the on blow managed to kill the toad.

“Well… that was easy!” laughed the hanyou.

“Inuyasha!” Kagome shouted and ran over to the young man.

“Oi, what's wrong wench?”

“Your hand, it's… it's….” Kagome didn't have to finish when the hanyou looked at his right arm all he could see was the bubbly, purple substance, and all he could smell was burnt flesh, yet, the pain wouldn't come.

“I suggest we get that checked up!” Miroku stated the obvious.

“But it doesn't hurt…”

~o~O~o~

It was evening and Kagome was tending to Inuyasha's wound as Kayo, the head priestess of the village, instructed.

The two were outside, and Kagome was cleaning out the puss from the hanyou's arm.

“You know, I'm a half demon, it's gonna heal quickly!” Inuyasha would protest.

“I don't care, the thing looked nasty and I don't want you going around with a bad arm, even if it takes you two time faster to heal than me.” the miko would reply.

Finally, when she was done wrapping up the wound Kagome sighed and sat beside Inuyasha, who was leaning against a wall.

“Hey, look, there's a fortune teller there, want to get your fortune told?” the young woman asked cheekily.

“Keh.”

“Here, I'll help you up.” Kagome offered.

“You know, I'm not an invalid, I can get up by myself, and anyways, you go by yourself, those things are stupid anyways!”

Kagome just smiled and nodded her head before she ran to the small tent, belonging to the fortune teller.

“Hello child, do ye wish to have thy fortune told?” asked an old woman dressed in navy blue robes.

“Yes please.”

“Very well, sit down, and close thy eyes. Relax.” The old woman instructed.

“I see thy are not from this time… Interesting… Are thee demon?”

“No… I'm human… a priestess in training if that helps.”

“Very well. Thee will live a long and plentiful life. I also see that thee will have a drastic change in thee life. But.. hmm… to thee positive.” the fortune teller informed before putting her cards back into a pile.

“Is that all?” Kagome asked.

“Yes, child, that is all thee cards will reveal.”

“Well then, thank you.” the miko bowed and walked out of the tent.

“Good luck, child, thee will need it…” the fortune teller whispered before snapping her fingers.

“Well, how'd it go?” asked Inuyasha as Kagome approached him.

“It went well, the fortune teller told me that my life would change… for the positive.”

“Feh, told ya those things were stupid!”
