Chapter 1

One shot

 

 

 

 

As they rode with great speed, they both smiled, but did not look at each other. Sydney always had a crush on Jake, but for the first time in a while, she didn't. It was odd, but all that went through her mind, was about the race. Her mind should always be set on the race, but it really wasn't, and she didn't know why. Half was thinking about the race, but the other wasn't. It was like her mind was drifting away with every length she took. (P.S., the race is a race that she and Jake are practicing for race.)

 

Her mind finally snapped back into reality when she heard his voice. It was a blur a first. Just a mix of unknown words. Sydney kept on playing them in her head, when finally it came to her. He said “Slow down Sydney, we have to let Amber ketch up”. She did as she was told, but her mind wasn't listening to her body movement. As she slowed down Calico (her horse), she looked over at Jake. His hair was long, but only barely touched his shoulder. It was so wild and silky, she wanted to touch it. But she new he wouldn't let her.

 

Her eyes kept a steady pace, as they ran over his hair. It shone like a tainted ruby. Marvelous, completely marvelous. Her staring finally caught his attention. As he moved his head to look at her, she made hers look away. It would be so embarrassing if he found her looking at him. After the long silence, they heard a steady beats of hooves.

It was the dreaded Amber. Sydney new she had a crush on Jake every since 6th grade and what were they in now. Uh, 10th!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It got so annoying, because every day Amber would get so emotional, she would just tell him how she felt. And every day he would turn her down.

Though, Sydney did envy a little her bravery. She would never be able to tell him her feelings. That would be impossible, utterly impossible. What?????????? When Sydney looked back at were Amber used to be, she was gone. And so was Jake. She looked everywhere, and when she finally looked under tree, wait there can't be any trees on the playa?!?!?!?!?!........ But there was, and right under it, there was Jake and Amber kissing!!!!!!!!!! And as soon as she blinked, Jake was standing right on the side of Calico. And with one small thrust of the arm too the right, (some how magically) she and Calico were falling off a cliff. “NOoooooooOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOooooo!!!!!!!!!

“Why is he doing this to me, did Jake and Amber have a secret relation ship? “If they did I didn't no......................................................................... .............................................

 

As her eyes closed, she let go of the reins so she wouldn't be smashed by Calico. A tear flowed out of her eyes as the opened. When was she going to hit the ground, she didn't know. She bravely turned her head to take a look, and all that she could see was clouds.

A small smile graced her lips. And as she twisted her head back too look at Calico, she was gone. The that was once on her face disappeared in a instant. She was gone. And once again streams off huge rivers flowed out of her eyes. She screamed, like her life depended on it. The suddenly, everything around her turned red. The white puffy skies were gone.

 

Then, everything stopped, just like that. A silent scream managed to escape her lips, but then it was over....................................................................... .....

 

“Whhaaaaaa..................... Sydney managed to say as she woke up from that dreaded dream (she is in the shower, didn't get much sleep last night) she had been having lately, but this time there was actual pain. Her eyes widened, and a sudden shriek escaped her mouth. The freezing cold water pelted her back. She rapidly turned off the shower, and looked at herself.

Her long brown chestnut hair stuck to her back like glue. And her butter milk green eyes were hazy.

Her mind wondered..............

“What if Jake and Amber did have a secret relation ship?” And what if they do kiss behind my back?” Sydney thought to herself.

Sydney sighed “I guess I'm just going to have to ask him.”

 

 

As she walked out of the bunkhouse of River Rain Ranch, she felt her heart sink. She once again saw Amber getting emotional and telling her feeling to Jake. But he once again rejected her. I mean who wouldn't. She was obnoxious, self centered, and on the last report card she made all F's. She was already going to Summer School. And she was leaving tomorrow. Her parents were picking her up, since she is only a cow hand.

 

Cow Hand: An extra person to help out around the Ranch/ farm.

 

She was supposed to stay for the summer on the bunk house with Sydney, but now she was leaving. Amber walked past Sydney with a smile on her face like she had accomplished something. But Sydney new she didn't. She lifted her head high and started to walk toward Jake. Bravery boomed in side of her. She finally was going to prove Amber wrong. She was going to actually talk to Jake for the first time.
