The Lord of the West’s plans for Friday the 9th seem perfectly ordinary. Totally ordinary. So ordinary, any sane human would be cowering under their beds. But Sesshomaru-sama has long been accustomed to doing what he want’s, whatever the consequence. Sure enough, Chaos and Fate are playing by their own rules this time, and taking great pleasure in destroying his comfortable existence. Especially since it gives them a chance to tease their sister...

 

An excerpt from Demon-kind in Ancient and Modern Times: A Guide to Noble Japanese Houses
             ...For centuries, the dog-demon Lords of the West have been something of a curiosity among youkai. Their uniformity is one strange aspect. The inu-youkai lords are so much alike in looks and personality that it is often hard for outsiders to tell the difference when one lord dies and his son replaces him. Their tastes in women are another strange thing. Inu-youkai lords are invariably tall, slender, often quiet and cold. However, their mothers, wives, and mistresses are equally invariably short, wide, and often very emotional. This tendency has been noticed in every generation of the inu-youkai family from as far back as the reign of the Ancient Kings, where a letters between court maidens chronicle these peculiar preferences. It is a standing joke among the dog-lords’ servants as to how their masters keep slender shape when they frequently choose a wife who is as wide as she is tall. However, it is sincerely doubted that the inu-youkai themselves know of this talk, since their loyalty to their chosen companions is another famed characteristic of the house...           &nbs p;   ...The current Lord of the West has not escaped these family tendencies. Several rumors, from multiple trusted sources, have reported that none of his past five girlfriends were under size 18 and that he often haunts Lane Bryant stores because "They attract more tasteful clientele"than other large-size clothing stores. He is also rumored to have toasted, when under the influence of a great deal of sake: "To my family motto: A pretty woman, and a lot of her!". It is hoped that his taste in female personalities has veered towards stability, but sadly this can not be confirmed or denied, as I have not be able to find any reliable sources of information on who Lord Sesshomaru has been involved with. Naturally, it is not something any woman wants to admit.

      &nbs p;     ...Of the demon houses that survived the cultural revolutions of the 19th and 20th centuries, the dog-lords of the western islands, formally known as the Lords of the West, are probably in the best financial situation. Very wealthy by human standards, and extraordinarily so for demons, the house has survived with more than half of its land intact. Because of wise investments, the house’s monetary value has actually grown since the late 1700s, when many demon houses began to decline. The total monetary value of the current Lord of the West, Lord Sesshomaru, is valued at anywhere from 80 million to several hundred million American dollars. This money is not all tied up in land or in liquid assets, but remains balanced between the two, giving the dog-lords much greater flexibility than some demon houses. Although the cat-lords are still very wealthy, their money is largely in monetary assets, and the latest recession hit them much harder than Lord Sesshomaru...              ...It is rumored that the house’s success is due to an excellent toad-seer, who predicts the future and invests based on those decisions. However, it has been determined that although a toad does indeed manage Lord Sesshomaru’s finances, he relies on intelligence and common sense rather than fortune-telling. Another aspect that has greatly helped the dog-lord’s financial success is the presence of competent, highly loyal servants. Where Sesshomaru-sama hires them is a mystery, but his retainers are highly trained and very dedicated. It is rumored that these servants first appeared in the later years of the Sengoku Jidai, and have served him ever since, for very low wages...           &n bsp; ...Another aspect to the inu-youkai’s financial success is the continuity of the house. The current Lord of the West is several centuries old, a rarity in a post-Nagasaki world. He was unable to attend the convocation of demon lords on August 17, 1945, and so escaped the dropping of the atomic bomb, which wiped out nearly one-fourth of all demon-lords, and many of their retainers and servants... ...In this less violent age, Sesshomaru-sama has turned his considerable talents and competitive urge from physical fighting to cutthroat business tactics. This combined with his toad lord’s inhumane financing abilities doubtless has a great deal to do with his house’s financial success.
