From Demons To Dementors
They laughed quite loudly for a while, (Mostly Souta) and then strode into the house smiling, though for different reasons. Souta slid open the door and turned on the light.
“Holy shit, Kagome!” Souta's eyes widened.
“What?” Kagome gazed down at herself and all around her body to see if something was out of place.
“You… you've changed,” was all he said eyeing her carefully.
“Have I truly...? Well I suppose…people do change you know, and I didn't have much of a choice in the matter…” Kagome murmured. Souta sat deep in thought and was in shock at the strange new appearance of his sister.
She was now about 5'8, which was rather tall for a pure-blooded Japanese girl, and her once mid-length, choppy hair now touched the back of her knees and was straight and even. Even her bangs were smooth and shaped her face nicely. Her eyes were still a grayish-blue color but they lacked the light they once held. (AN: You know, like Kikyo.)
“Wow! That's an amazing outfit, Nee-chan!” Souta exclaimed as he eyed her fighting gi jealously. It was pitch black with bright red stitching, a crimson obi and had little red flowers on the left arm and shoulder, but it was shaped and worn in a way that could blend in well in modern times. (AN: If you need a mental image, think of a more feminine version of Sesshoumaru's outfit, but in black and red and with no spiky armor and with a modern twist to it.) Draped over her shoulders was a long, black cape that looked as light as a feather and was made for stealth.
Souta also noticed that she had two swords on her hip; upon closer inspection he saw that both the sheaths were black, but one had red bindings and the other had silver. Kagome watched as her little brother gave her a once over, and then smirked when his eyes reached her swords. They were gifts from the others back home; the red one was named Zetsumei and the silver one was named Itazuki. She would not tell him of the many lives that had been ended by her swords; he didn't need to know that she had been trained by the most powerful and deadly youkai in the world.
She smirked again. `And he thought Inuyasha was awesome…heh… he was but a mere pup compared to me now.' Her amusement was cut short when she remembered that she would never see him again. `No. I will not think of the past, I will look to the future now. This is what I chose, I dug my own grave and now I shall lie in it,' she thought angrily. `I will be happy for my friends, both old and new, and for my family.'
She decided that since Souta was still admiring her…ah…new look, she might as well take advantage of the light to observe how her little brother had changed. What she saw rather surprised her; her bratty little brother was now a strapping young man. He stood at about 5'5” and had shoulder length, dark brown hair which was messy and choppy. She noticed he had on sweat pants that were ridding a little low, showing the tops of his boxers and he had on a black Linkin' Park tee-shirt. She giggled softly.
`With those looks, he must be quite the charmer with the ladies. If it were not for the fact that I am his sister, and the obvious age difference, I might actually find him attractive,' she quietly giggled again.
“What!?” Souta demanded.
“Sooo, little brother, do you have a girlfriend yet?” Kagome covered her mouth delicately with her sleeve to stifle her amusement, but her usually emotionless eyes twinkled with joy.
“Well……ah…that is to say…ah.” Souta blushed as he stumbled over his words.
“Ahhh… so you do have a girlfriend, I cannot believe it!” Kagome smirked at the thought.
“So? When might I meet her? What is her name? Is she pretty? How did you two meet? Have I met her? If not, do you think she will like me? And most importantly, have you two rutted yet?” Kagome's eyes shone mischievously as she fired off a million questions to confuse him.
“NOOO…! Wait… Rutted!?” Souta yelled at her and was about to defend himself when there came a thump from upstairs. Kagome, in the blink of an eye, had the silver sword out and was ready to deal with whatever had made the noise. A louder sound to the left startled Souta, but Kagome neither flinched nor jumped.
“Kagome, it was probably just Buyo,” Souta sighed, relaxing, but Kagome knew better.
`There are still youkai in this time, so there still is the possible threat of an attack. They don't know what's after me, therefore they do not know why I cannot let my guard drop; they don't understand the danger,' she remembered.
“Souta-kun? What's causing that racket down here? It's time for bed; you have to get ready for…” A woman's voice drifted from around the corner and into the kitchen. Souta turned back to Kagome in time to see her sheath the sword back silently.
“…Ka…Kagome-chan… is that really you?” the woman inquired.
“Hai, Okaa-san, it's me, I'm back; my quest in the past is over.” Kagome answered softly. `Sure, just keep twisting those words, Kagome. You know humans are too blind to see them for what they are.' Kagome mentally shook her head to rid herself of those thoughts.
“Oh, Kagome-chan!” she cried and launched herself towards her long lost daughter. Souta noticed as Kagome flinched and her hand twitched over her sword. He realized that Kagome was upset about something and did not want to be in contact with their mother physically or verbally, so he came to her aid and pried his mother off of his sister.
“Ah…Ka-chan? Why don't we let Kagome-nee-chan get some rest? I mean it's about 2 AM and I'm sure she's really tired from her trip back.” Souta led their mother back up to her room.
“Thank you,” Kagome mouthed, her eyes showing her gratitude before setting back into her usual cold, emotionless gaze.
“Any time, `Gome,” he mouthed back, giving her a small wave and calling her by her childhood nickname, and this time she didn't flinch. All three walked up the stairs to their separate rooms, eagerly waiting for the morning to come. Their mother could not wait to have a heart to heart talk with her daughter and to do girly things with her. Souta was anxious because he wanted to spend time with Kagome and to hear her story. Kagome was nervous for she didn't like the things that go bump in the night. Especially when they were just a few doors down the hall.
`Sweet dreams my beautiful, disgusting Tama.'
