“Ok then just let me take one last look around the shop then we can go home and you can tell me all about your girlfriend” Kagome winked and walked to the other end of the store
“But…oh man” Souta whined
“Oh you didn't think I'd forgotten did you? this Kagome forgets nothing!” Kagome smirked at the inside joke that she knew he wouldn't get.
“No sis…I was afraid you hadn't………… so Kagome how are you going to train me?” he asked
“Don't you worry your empty little head Souta” she winked and before Souta could ask she walked over to the counter and placed a note on the desk with a little charm
“what's that?” he asked
“oh it's just an odufa I thought he might appreciate and a little good luck charm I have blessed from our shrine”
“an odufa? Why would an old geezer like him want some piece of paper with scribbles on it? I mean you cant even fight with them so what's the point?” kagome just chuckled
“you know souta, one of my dearest friends fought quite well with odufs, saved our lives hundreds of times” kagome pointed out
“yeah, yeah whatever, I still think that a sword it better then some measly piece of paper” he said with all the manly pride he could muster
“hmmmmmmm” kagome murmerd, remembering the all mighty power of miroku's odufas
“Ok Souta lets go, do we have every thing?” she asked
“Ahh bags- check, weird old box thingie- check that's every thing” said Souta
“awww not all old things are weird, souta” kagome poked him with her finger
“yeah right, just look at that old fart” souta pointed to the old man in the back room. Kagome frowned
“he's not that old, the box on the other hand, now that's some old stuff” kagome patted the box fondly
Besides you know how much I like old things, I'm like the definition of old” she mumbled the last part
“Hey `gome what do you mean old your only like 21 right?”
“Well it depends on who you ask” she shrugged in thought
huh? What the hell does that mean?” He was cut off by Kagome whacking him on the head
language” she smiled
“what?! Language? Who do you think you are? My baby sitter!” he mumbled as he rubbed his poor abused head. Kagome just chuckled softly. Her eyes sparkled in joy at her brothers little fit.
“Ok Souta let's go home and start this sibling bonding thing, what do you say?” Souta smiled temporally forgetting the little fight and picked up all the bags, leaving the old box to kagome. Soon he thought of something where are kagome's swords? She said that she never takes them off so I wonder where they are. Then again if she had them on people might see them, then what would we do? Souta imagined a chibi kagome fighting off the police with her swords
“Ah Kagome…” But again before he could finished she had already started walking down the street
“kagome where are your swords?” he asked
no one can see then unless I want them too, I neat little spell I learned a long time ago, comes in handy all the time” she patted her own swords at her hip
“only some one with really high spirit energy would be able to sense that I had a cover up spell” kagome turned left and started walking down a nice back road
“well what happens if someone with really high spirit energy sees us?” he asked
“I kill them” she said seriously
“Kinda dark don't ya think?” he shivered
“It was dark times Souta, I trained in dark times” was all she said. Souta was quiet for a couple of minutes as they walked down the road that their family shrine was on
“Kagome?” Souta asked not sure how he was going to address the subject
“Yeah Souta what is it?” Souta took a deep breath and waited a minute before he spoke.I don't want to disturb this wonderful calm we share, I have enjoyed having her back so much but I need to know what happened, I need to know what made her change, and lastly howand whyshe has these unnatural abilitiesSouta thought worriedly I don't want to scare her away
“Souta!” Kagome's voice brought him out of his stressing. Then he noticed that they had stopped by the park that was next to their shrine, he looked up at Kagome's worried eyes.
“What is it Souta? What's wrong?” she put her hands on his shoulders and led him to a bench in a secluded part of the park. Here goes nothing he took a deep breath
“Kagome what happened?” he asked
“What happened when?” ahs asked back trying to sway the conversation
“You know Souta we really should get these bags home and I need to teach you how to use…” this time it was Kagome that was cut off
“Kagome what happened in the past? what happened to you and your friends? What about what happened in the weapon store? why wont you tell me? is it that you don't trust me or is it that you don't think I'm old enough, I can handle it Kagome! Why won't you tell me your secrets?” Souta yelled frustrated
“We all have secrets Souta and they were meant to stay just as they are, secrets. They were not meant to be told, just kept inside to fester until the end of our days, the number of people alive that remember any thing of the past I can count on one hand. Our secrets will not be told by me, it is our burden and I will carry it alone” she whispered sadly
“but…” souta started
“no, let me finish” kagome went on
“I will not let you throw away your life the way I did, I didn't have a choice but you do! I will not let my only little brother share this……this curse, that is my destiny, you will not die the way they did! I will protect you from this until my last breath has left my lifeless lips!” Kagome said in a deadly voice that would scare anyone, hell Souta was scared shitless but this was his sister and he would stay by her side.
“When you say “them” you mean your friends in the past don't you? They are dead aren't they?... I wont die like them sis I promise, I can help you, I want to help you this is my choice, you are my only big sister and your hurting!” Souta yelled
“Ah…Souta ……but you are in no position to make that promise, you…” but again she was cut off
“Do you think I can't see it! Damn it Kagome I can see it in your eyes, your in pain and it's killing you from the inside out!” he was standing and yelling now and drawing a few strange glances form random passerby's.
“You may think you need to protect your little brother but I will not let you suffer, not like this and no matter what the cost!” he broke down letting a couple of tears run down his face. Because he was about the same size as Kagome he picked her up and placed her in his lap and wrapped his arms around her
“you can't be sad! not if I have any say about it, I wont let you go, not after I waited so long for you to return to me!” Kagome was crying inside but she would not let a single tear fall from her eyes, she wouldn't let any one see her cry anymore not even her only brother, not after what happened so long ago.
Oh Souta” she sighed hugging him tightly
“When did you get so grown up?” she asked
“When I was waiting for you, believe it or not I have been having some adventures of my own, and I didn't even need your trouble magnet” he smirked
I am sorry souta but I cant tell you every thing, I cant even tell you some of it………it's complicated………things……things aren't as easy as they were five hun……I mean five years ago, it is the best I can do, it is either some or none, it's your choice, although I much rather you choose none” she sighed
“But…” he protested
“Some things I'm not ready to say and some things are just too dangerous for people other than me to know, there are you happy now? You got your way” she tried to smile
“I always get my way kags you should know that, no one is immune to my charm!” she burst out laughing
“Oh Souta you Miroku and Shippo would have gotten along wonderfully” she smiled
“but really Souta if you are going to get caught up in all this then you must know that your life will be in more danger that ever and there is a very good chance you will die but I will try every thing in my power to prevent that, do you still want to know what happened?” she asked seriously
“There's nothing I'd rather do than be part of an adventure with you sis, you know I have that hero worship thing going on” he smiled
“Plus it will give me a chance to use this thing” he patted the box that held the scythe then he made his eyes water like a baby animal
“I want to be just like you sis” he said in a squeaky voice. Kagome laughed again and picked up her half of the bags lets hope you never have to use your training, not like I did kagome quickly changed her train of thought so as not to alert souta to her inner problems
“Come on Souta before you dump your girlfriend for a mirror” she snorted as his mouth dropped open
“You'll catch flies that way” she smiled when he snapped his mouth shut, they walked home hand in hand, a little closer that they were earlier.
