From Demons to Dementors
“my mate” he growled again possessively
“yes, your mate” kagome said quietly, almost a whisper. Naraku smirked at Lupins shocked expression. Naraku started to laugh, lupin looked on helplessly as kagome laid limp in the madman's arms
“I'm disappointed in you naraku” kagome said calmly, despite the blood leaking sluggishly out of her mouth. Naraku stopped laughing.
“and why is that my tama?” he looked down at the bloody mess of a woman. Kagome started to chuckle but stopped with a sickening cough, spitting blood on naraku's haori
“you forgot…” lupin took a step closer to the ugly scene, hoping to hear more of the whispered conversation
“your not the only trapped voice in my head!” kagome looked up, suddenly, her eyes pure white with no pupil. Before naraku could respond, she quickly reached behind her back and whipped out a small dagger the size of her finger
“good bye” she whispered and cut his throat, sheathing the tiny dagger before the first drop of blood was spilt. Naraku looked surprised, not as surprised as lupin. then he smirked. Slowly morphing into the black mist the he was before. Kagome raised her arm, tiredly. Dripping blood from the tips of her fingers, the black mist floated up to greet her, swirled around her hand for a moment then slammed into her chest, sending kagome staggering back a few steps, lupin rushed to help steady her
“welcome back to hell naraku” she smirked, her eyes back to normal and went limp
“KAGOME!” lupin yelled shaking her
“I'm not dead fool” she mumbled
“at least not yet” she grumbled in an after thought
“you have lost too much blood, I need to heal you, hold on” lupin was shaking but his hand were steady when he laid her broken body on the floor
“I wont let you die” he said fiercely. Kagome snorted
“stupid mortal” she sighed
“I'll get help!” he shot up, almost falling over himself in haste to get away from the large puddle of blood seeping out of kagome's small body. Lupin ran to the door and went to open it but was shocked and thrown back a few steps, his hand lightly smoking
“what!” he cried hystericaly
“barrier” she said simply from the corner
“barrier?” lupin was confused but walked back over to kagome still nursing his hand.
“protection” she mumbled
“sound proof too, little bastards are all still asleep” she smiled weakly, the dried blood on her lips cracked. Lupin frowned
“how…how do I help you kagome?” he asked helplessly. He had decided that all his questions could wait for later…provided she had a later
“there isn't anything you can do” kagome groaned. Lupin almost sobbed
“I cant let you die, I know that we haven't known eachother very long, but you are souta's sister, you have come to fight our enemy, in my book that makes you a friend! And as a friend I cant let you die so horribly!!” he grabbed her hand and squeezed it. What he didn't expect was for kagome to snatch her hand back and hit him. Then sit up, grumbling about ignorant mortals and chatty spiders
“don't move, you're too hurt!” he tried to push her back down but kagome would have none of it. She shoved his hands back and stood up
“I have had worse, this wont kill me so settle down” she glared at him, then turned her attention to her blood soaked clothes. Her haori was dripping blood. She frowned and decided to take it off. Lupin stood mystified as kagome let her shirt drop with a loud slop. She had on an under shirt, also soaked with blood, that made it on the floor next to the first within seconds, now all that was left was her long black pants and the breast band she had on. She debated what to do next, the cloth that held her breasts was the only fabric on her that wasn't too wet. She looked down and cautiously poked her wounds. They were bad, four holes on either side of her, all of them were still bleeding, they had to be wrapped, at least until she had enough energy to heal herself properly. She sighed and started to undo the breast band, lupin's eyes got wider as he took in the beautiful sight. A death goddess, that is the only thing he could think of at the moment. She was bare from the waist up, covered in her own blood and standing in a small pool of it, completely focused on her task of binding her wound and yet totally aware of her surroundings. Kagome glanced back at him, tying the final knot in the make shift bandage.
“I never saw you as the kind of man to stair at a half naked woman” her upper lip twitched in a suppressed smile. Lupin blinked and automatically turned around, stuttering and apology. Kagome took note of his beet red face and smirked, had she been younger she would have hidden behind a chair or something but now, modesty wasn't one of her concerns. Lupin was still a dangerous shade of red she sighed, apparently modesty was one of his. She felt a sudden rare urge to tease him, not one to pass up an opportunity to mess with the male mind, she silently walked in front of him
“don't tell me you have never seen breasts before” she poked one of her own and watched it slightly bounce. Lupin's blush spread down the front of his slightly opened shirt.
“n..no, I have” he stuttered
“I, I just never …seen a woman with out a shred of modesty” his mouth fell open when she threw her head back and laughed. He smiled. He had made her laugh. Then he noticed her bouncing breasts and threw his hand over his eyes. This make her laugh harder, unfortunately this make her wounds bleed more for now her once white breast band was now slowly turning crimson.
“shit” she cursed and poked her sides again. Lupin wanted to help her but he couldn't with out looking at her pale breasts, frustrated, he must have made a noise because kagome looked up with a disapproving look.
“will you grow up, yeah, so what? There breasts” to prove her point she grabbed his hand and laid in to her chest. He gagged
“look, nothing special, they wont explode or fly away, now will you stop acting like a teenage boy in puberty” she turned her back on him and reached into her pocket, smirking when he couldn't see. Lupin stared at his hand, than at her back, she had taken out a small red ribbon and was now sweeping up her long hair into a messy bun. At this point every inch of her back was uncovered, he gasped. Her entire back was pained with scars, horrible scars that ran all over her back. He could tell that they were deep and old. She twitched and turned around, crossing her arms over her chest for his sake. That's when he realized, not only were the scars on her back, they were every where. All over he neck, her arms, her stomach…every where. He wondered if it would be the same scene on her legs.
“yes” she said as if reading his mind
“h..how” was all he could manage to say. Kagome smiled a sad smile
“I told you I had a dangerous profession” she bent down and examined her puddle of blood.
“but…” he didn't know how to finish. Kagome glanced at him and then her blood
“here is a piece of advice, you can take it or leave it” she sat down cross legged
“when you fight, fight to kill, not to win… only to kill, and don't let the thought of death get in your way. Abandon all fears and just kill. Granted it's dangerous, and you might obtain a few souvenirs along the way” she grinned at her scared arms
“but in the end, it's worth it…knowing that he's dead, and not coming back” she ended with a whisper. Lupin first thought she was talking about voldermort but then he caught the strange, private flash in her eyes
“is, is he dead?” he asked, curious about the story of kagome
“dead…what is dead?” she held up her hand and stared at it a few moments
“if you mean, has his heart stopped beating, and his body died…then yes he is dead” she clenched her fingers into a fist
“but if you mean, has his soul moved on, has his presence left this world….then no, no he is not dead” lupin was quiet he didn't know what to say. Kagome ignored him and went back to her examination of the blood puddle. She dipped her finger in and swirled it around absentmindedly. Lupin, as if pushed by some unknown force slowly reached towards the blood. Kagome, like a viper, snatched his hand away from the blood and shook her head. Looking around she picked up a pad of paper of a side table then dropped it into the red pool. The paper on contact with the blood, burst into flames and then sizzled into the finest of ash, settling on the top of the blood before slowly disappearing completely. Lupins mouth dropped as he clutched his hand to his chest, thinking about what would have happened if it was flesh and blood
“it's not a pretty sight, but it gets the job done” she answered one again seeming to read his mind. He looked at her in question
“there are…certain side effects to drinking that poison” she chuckled and dipped her finger back into the blood, slowly stirring it around in a circle, almost hypnotically
“with gain there is loss, every thing must be balanced in this world” she continued to swirl the blood. Lupin just watched as she softly mumbled under her breath. He tried hard to listen to the whispered words.
“begin, end, enemy, friend, heaven, hell, sick, well, truth, lies, husbands, wives, whisper, shout, in out, in out, laughter, cry, ask, reply, good, bad, happy, sad, right, wrong, outcast, belong, caged, free. You, me” she pulled her finger out of the blood and looked a lupin.
“every thing must be equal…..everything” she flicked her finger, sending tiny dots of blood flying through the air to land on the floor. Lupin watched curiously, the scholar in him intrigued.
“why isn't it burning though the floor?” he asked curiously. Kagome grinned
“barrier…altered to fit my needs” she waved her free hand over the blood puddle and a small blue ball seemed to appear right over it. She lifter her hand and the ball floated a few inches, taking the blood with it. She shrunk the ball smaller and smaller, when it got to the size of a basket ball, the ball was filled to the top with blood. She pushed harder, forcing the blood to solidify and grow smaller. A light sweat had broken out across her forehead as she pushed harder and harder, using both hands until it would shrink no further, it was now, against the laws of physics, the size of a large marble and it was a beautiful shade of red, it was crimson. Kagome sighed and waved her hand once more over it, cutting all spiritual ties and making it drop to the ground, bouncing once with a hard, sharp noise
“it's safe now…well as safe as it's going to get any way” kagome said sitting back, resting against the back of the upturned couch. Lupin slowly and cautiously picked up the red ball, it was smooth like silk, but it felt like glass, but the most disturbing thing was that it was warm and every so often it would pulse, like it was alive. He watched it for a few moments, it seemed to swirl, like smoke trapped in a crystal ball. It was the most bizarre yet beautiful thing he had ever laid eyes on…well second most beautiful yet bizarre thing he thought, looking back to kagome. He jumped up surprised. She was gone, all the upturned furniture was back to where it was supposed to be, all the blood gone, even her torn and bloody clothes were missing. He almost started to doubt that it really happened when the red ball in his hand pulsed.
“so it really did happen” he whispered, the ball pulsed again in response. He stared at the small ball again, hypnotized. he could have sworn that he heard kagome's tired voice in his head
“a present…perhaps it will be of some use?” the voice left, as if it had never come. Lupin smiled
“yes…perhaps” he tucked the red ball into his breast pocket and walked to the door. It didn't zap him this time. He walked up the stairs and to his room, for what few hours of sleep he could still get
“this year will be very…different” he smiled and patted his chest pocket where kagome's blood ball pulsed in time with his hear beat, he felt oddly comforted.
“why did you give it to him? You know how dangerous it is…”
“yes”
“you are getting soft in your old age”
“soft?...maybe”
“why?”
“he…he reminds me of some one I used to know a long time ago”
“how so?”
“he's young, way to trusting…he's ignorant and stupid…but he is loyal”
“and just who might this someone be?”
“she is dead”
“who?”
“me”
