Ch 5: Glimpse of the Future

Gandalf came to a halt at an area near a small patch of woods in the early evening. The sun was low in the sky, but would soon be setting. "I think we've traveled far enough today. What do you say to taking that rest now?"

"That sounds mighty nice to me." Said West as her stomach growled. She turned slightly red and rubbed her belly.

"Then it's settled, lets stop here and set up camp." Gandalf said in a loud voice.

They set up camp and started a fire. Aragon cooked a stew from the salted meat he was carrying and Legolas unpacked some of the Elvin bread they had left. Gimli sat on a log next to the fire. Inuyasha sat Indian style next to Kagome with his sword in his lap, eyes closed. Aragon conveyed the recent happenings to Gandalf who sat next to him smoking his pipe. West sat beside Gimli with her back resting against the log. She was tuning her guitar getting ready to play and liven up the quiet group.

"What type of musical instrument do you got there young miss." Gimli asked her looking in interest at her guitar.

She laughed at what he had called her. "It's a guitar, and Gimli, thank you." She giggled "You made me feel young for a minute there."

He gave her a confused look. She looks no older than 21 in human years, I wonder how demons age if she considers herself old. "How old are you then, you look young to me."

"I will be turning 400 this spring" Everyone's jaw dropped slightly, excluding Inuyasha and Legolas. "Demons age like Elves do as far as I have read in books. Higher class demons such as my self do not die of old age, but we can die in battle."

"I find that very interesting. You must have learned a lot in your time." Said Legolas "You are my elder by about 100 years."(An: sorry if that ain't right but I couldn't find his age so it is free game, unless someone tells me other wise.)

She smiled at him. "Yeah I guess I have learned a lot." She turned to Kagome, who was probably the only one who would know what she was talking about. "Did you here of the native Americans in your world history class Kagome?"

"Yes, a little why."

West smiled in remembering her past. "I was born shortly before the English arrived in America. My mom was a coyote demon stayin with her friend who was the leader of a tribe of Seminal Indians and my pa was a lone wolf demon that came upon there camp one night. They fell in love after she battled him to keep him from destroying the camp," she laughed at that part. " what a strange couple." Her smile faded "I remember when the English came and one group tried to attack our tribe. We fought em off, but they had strange new weapons. Both my mom and papa were shot in the head and died." She had a slightly pained look on her face. "We had saved the tribe but my parents were dead. In my grief I left the tribe and head out west where there were not any English." She sighed, "I watched as the people slowly migrated west and slowly joined into their society. My favorite time how ever was when the cowboys herded cattle across long trail drives. They were a rough bunch with a free spirited look on life. I was sad to see those times gone. Well, the years past and I adjusted." Gandalf was listening intently to her to get a possible glimpse of the future. Legolas also listened to her closely, understanding how she felt after spending so much time on this earth. " I still cling to those days though, hence the reason I started a country western band. Some of their songs and outlook on life reminded me of the songs on the long trail drives that the cowboys would sing to keep the night interesting." With this she positioned her guitar in front of her and strummed it once. Her face brightened. "Kagome, have you followed that country faze that's goin threw Japan?"

"Actually I haven't had time to get involved in any new trends, but I remember in the little time I had with my friends they played some, why."

"Do you have any requests?"

"um…" she thought for a moment, trying to remember one of the songs her friends played. "how about Any Man of Mine."

"Good choice." She smiled and played a few lines of lively music then she began to sing…

"This is what a woman wants…"

" Any man of mine better be proud of me

Even when I'm ugly he still better love me

And I can be late for a date that's fine

But he better be on time

Any man of mine'll say it fits just right

If last year's dress is just a little to tight

And anything I do or say better be okay

When I have a bad hair day."

Everyone in the group not from the 21st century looked at her a little confused. For one thing the music sounded pretty strange, but it did have a catchy tune. Second the way she was talking about men sounded like in the her time the men and women's rolls were reversed. Gandalf just laughed slightly at her lyrics, finding them amusing. So the women finally stood up for themselves, what an interesting future this must be.

"And if I change my mind

a million times

I wanna hear him say

Yeah," kagome joined in for the back up yeah. "yeah" "yeah" "yeah I Like it that way."

Kagome was now singing the Chorus with her, seeing as how it was one of the few parts she remembered. The music livened up a little more with this.

"Any man of mine better walk the line

Better show me a teasin squeezing peasin kinda time

And any man who knows, how the story goes

He's gotta be a heartbeatin fine treatin

Breathtakin earthquakin kind

Any man of mine."

Inuyasha looked over surprised at her. Is that really how she wants her man to be… ah, why do I care anyways.

"Well any man of mine better disagree

When I say another woman's lookin better than me

And when I cook him dinner and burn it black

He better say, mmmm, I like it like that yeah"

Gimli leaned over to Legolas who had recently sat down next to him. "A little demanding isn't she?" Legolas just nodded. She heard him with her sensitive ears and smiled at them.

"And if I change my mind

Kagome joined in again.

"Yeah" "yeah" "yeah" "yeah" "yeah I like it that way."

She stood up and grabbed Kagome's arm dragging her up to he feet. She started to dance to the song urging Kagome to dance with her.

"You gotta shimmy, shake

Make an earth quake

Kick, turn. Stomp, stomp, then you jump

Heel toe,Doe si doe

`Til your boots wanna break

`Til your feet and back ache

Keep it movin till you just can't take anymore

Come on everybody on the floor

This is what a woman wants…"

The two girls laughed together and sat down. West took her guitar and propped it up on a bolder setting her hat on the top of it. The men were still in a bit of awe. Gimli was the first to speak up about the song. "That isn't seriously what it's like in the future… is it?"

West smirked at Kagome and took off the black over shirt also hanging it on her guitar. She stood up and walked over to Gimli only to plop down in between him and Legolas. She put a friendly arm around both their shoulders. This should be fun she thought to her self. "Well, you see boy's, I hate to be the one to tell ya'll this, but in the future women are the providers and the men folk stay home to clean, cook and take care of the kids."

"WHAT?!?" Yelled every guy there.

"Hehe… I'm just jokin, take it easy." She laughed.

There were a few sighs of relief. Gimli continued, "So then that song was just nonsense."

"No, I didn't say that. Women and men are pretty equal when it comes to the work and home care." Again the men looked at her unbelievingly. "Sorry for havein rights, yeash." With that she got up and walked towards the woods. "I'm gonna go take a bath care to join me Kagome?"

"No thanks, I don't feel like taking a bath in the cold stream. I think I am just going to rest until the food is done."

"Suit yourself, cold water sounds good to me after all the runnin I did." She walked off to find the stream they passed a bit ago. When she got to it she was very pleased. It was deep and the water was clean and clear. She striped herself of her clothes and slowly walked to the middle of the wide stream until it came to about her waist. "This would be a good time to make another disguise barrier." She sat on a large rock in to middle of the stream so the water came to her chest. As she sat there she let the running water clean her as she concentrated on her task.

In her hands a small purple light began to shine. As the light grew little sparks flittered into the water and sizzled at the contact. A violet haze surrounded her and swirls of light mist slowly spiraled around her. This is what Legolas saw when he came upon her. He hadn't been paying attention to where she said she was going because he was still to busy thinking about how different the future must be. He had decided to fill some of the water pouches and that is how he came to be there. When he saw her at first, he froze to the spot a little shocked not only from the fact he walked in on her bathing, but also because of the magic that surrounded her. It was such a beautiful sight to his eyes after traveling for so long. The purple haze illuminated her face giving her an angelic look. He soon realized that he was doing something wrong by staring like some lecherous peeping tom. He quickly averted his eyes and tried to quietly leave the area.

With Legolas being an elf he should have no problem sneaking away, right? Wrong. West had just finished her spell when Legolas was leaving and now that her concentration wasn't only on her work she noticed a presence immediately. She was about to threaten who ever it was, but she caught the sent. She decided to not say anything. It was probably just an accident. She thought to herself. Slowly she dragged her very tired body out of the stream. Rubbing her neck she sighed. "Guess it took more outa me then I thought." She dressed back in the jeans and white tank top and made her way back to camp.

Everyone was eating when she returned to camp, still in her demon form. She didn't like to use it if she didn't have to so she would just wait to activate it until they came to the next town. Kagome stood to offer her a bowl. She took it with a smile of appreciation as she sat down next to her. She noticed a certain pointy-eared man trying his best not to meet is gaze, but the second he looked up their eyes met. He turned his eyes away quickly and his cheeks turned a slight shade of pink. Oh now, that's just to cute. What ever will I do with him. She thought with an overly dramatic mental voice. She smiled and chuckled slightly at his antics as she ate her stew.

Kagome looked at her confusedly. "What are you laughing at West."

"Oh it's nothin to worry about." West waved away her questioning stare and set her bowl down. Turning to the rest of the group, she spoke loud enough for everyone to hear her. "So, what's the look out arrangements?"

Gandalf spoke up, " I will take first watch. You look tired my dear. Rest you and Inuyasha should get a good night sleep after the work you've been doing."

"I will let you know that us demons can go days on end with out sleepin." She yawned. "…but, a rest would be nice. I think I'll turn in for the night right now, as a mater of fact." She stood up with a stretch and walked over to her guitar. Putting the hat and over shirt back on she walked over to a near by tree and sat down with her back resting against it's trunk. "Night ya'll." She pushed her hat down to cover her face as she slowly drifted off into a light, but well earned sleep.

IVX: Well, it's been a while cause I didn't get any more reviews, :::glares at people who read with out reviewing.::: Yeah, I see ya. There are to many visits to only have 4 reviews. BUT, I hope you enjoyed it anyways and thank you very very much to those who did review. I am updating because I really think that more people need to continue their work on these type of crossovers. It's hard with few reviews, but the works need to be completed because the mix is a good one even if it isn't favored. I for one think it is the best crossover types, but that's just me. And anyone who reads these types shoul Definitely review them to encourage them to write more. It makes it easier. Thanks for reading my incoherent babbling, but I have to go to bed cause I have to get up in 3 hours. R&R pretty please. Bies… ^_~
