Chapter One
"Stop saying that!!!" yelled Inuyasha. "Would you quit it already? It's not like that and she's not like that. I don't care what you say, but I'm going to her. What I feel about her is none of your business. Stay out of it!"
Kagome was shocked at his words. Was she really that mean when she said that it would be a trap that Kikyo set for him? But she was just worried about him and didn't want any harm to happen. But did he really have to say those words. Those striking words, piercing though her heart.
"Leave me alone. You don't have to stay here. No one's making you. It's just you. You're the one that wanted to be at my side that day at the well. I don't need you. I'm just fine by myself. Kikyo never did anything to you so quit saying shit about her." All of Inuyasha anger buried within him during the past few days were out now and all on Kagome's shoulder.
Tears started to swell on Kagome's eyes. Did he really mean all he said? Was she really that type of person? Yet Kagome couldn't help but feel a heartache and feeling that his words were true.
"Don't give me that look. That pathetic look you always have on your face." Inuyasha snarled.
"Inuyasha . . ." Kagome started.
"Just leave her alone . . . and me." Inuyasha runs off towards the woods in search of Kikyo.
Miroku, Sango, and Shippo were so shocked at Inuyasha words that they were speechless and to think that . . .
Kagome runs off at the opposite direction tears running down continuously. He really did mean it, didn't he? It must be true that or else he would never say that. He must really have had that in his heart and I pushed him too far. He just had to explode. It was all he could do. I must been weighing him down. All I did to help was getting him in deeper situations and slowing him down. If it wasn't for me, Inuyasha may have gone off with Kikyo a long time ago and they wouldn't have this line between them. He really does hate me, doesn't he?
"I SHOULD HAVE NEVER COME BACK!" Kagome yelled to herself. She really made a mess of things didn't she? She guessed that . . . it was Inuyasha. She still couldn't let go. Even though she said those words about giving him up, but her heart was still there. She couldn't do it. Tears glittered down her face and onto the floor soundlessly. Sango went in and saw that Kagome was packing her things, about to leave.
"Kagome . . . Inuyasha didn't mean what he says. He was just angry." Sango tried to reason. Inuyasha really did make a fool of himself yet. Letting his emotions out like that.
"Yes he did. That's the thing. He's angry enough to say things that are coming from his heart." Kagome said tearfully. She knew the truth. She knew it. No matter what they say or how much she wants to believe it, she knows it.
"Kagome . . ." Sango whispered. She didn't know what to say anymore. She was just as shocked as everyone else that she couldn't think. All she could think of was just to get Kagome to stay and get Inuyasha to apologize.
Miroku and Shippo were going after Inuyasha to make him come back and rethink what he said and did.
"Please Sango. If you're my friend, don't stop me. I had enough of him. Tell him, go look for the jewel shards on his own and that I'm taking my piece with me. I don't ever want to see him again." Even though that's what's coming out of Kagome's mouth, but she didn't really mean it. She just didn't want to make Inuyasha think that . . . she like so attach with him and that she can't live on her own. "I'm going home."
With that, Kagome swung her book bag over her shoulders and walked away. Sango sigh and looked at her. She needed time alone. She'll come back. Inuyasha will say sorry. Everything will be back to normal again. That's what Sango hopes, but something's telling her that it may not happen. Just when Sango was about to chase after her, Miroku and Shippo came back.
"Well . . .?" Sango asked.
Miroku and Shippo sadly shook their head.
"I just hope that they get over it soon." Shippo said sadly.
"I'm just afraid that'll be a while." Miroku said. He could feel the atmosphere changing for the worst and that today would be the start of it all. One single word . . .
-------------------------
Inuyasha was jumping from branches to branches trying to get to Kikyo faster. All he could think about was Kikyo right now. If she was okay, why she was here, and just to see her. He sees her near the lake with her soul collector.
"Kikyo . . ." whispered Inuyasha.
"Inuyasha . . . you came."
"Of course I would." Inuyasha said softly.
"Wouldn't you? Have you forgotten about me Inuyasha?" Kikyo said lonely.
"How could I? I would never do that. Not even for a second." Inuyasha insisted.
"Oh really?" Kikyo said laughing bitterly.
"Kikyo, I . . ." Inuyasha started
"You probably have. I know you Inuyasha. If you were really . . . That's not what I want to tell you when I came today. Naraku has all the parts of the jewel shard except for the one that you have with you. Be careful Inuyasha. When the time comes, I'll be back." Kikyo said as she starts to fade away with her soul collectors.
"Kikyo!" Inuyasha shouted. After all this time they haven't seen each other, Inuyasha was worried that something would have happened to her. When he got Kikyo's scent, he just wanted to rush off but Kagome . . . KAGOME!!! Inuyasha just remember.
"Oh crap!" Inuyasha rushed back. How could I have said that? Even after Shippo and Miroku came, all I thought about was Kikyo. I just hope that she's not THAT mad at me. Man, what have I done? She'll be okay. She's strong. I hope . . .
The minute he got there, he was met with angered looks from everyone. Oh no. Don't tell him that . . .
"What?!?"
"YOU TWO TIMING JERK!" yelled Sango, ready to kill.
"I HATE YOU INUYASHA. HOW CAN YOU BE LIKE THAT TO KAGOME? I DON'T LIKE YOU ANYMORE." Cried Shippo.
"Even I have to admit that was really bad of you for two timing." Miroku said while shaking his head, thinking about him with every other girl.
"She was asking for it." What was he saying? Inuyasha couldn't believe himself anymore. Is this really he, the one?
"No wonder she can't stand you." Sango commented.
"Your point?" asked Inuyasha.
"You're hopeless. If you continue being like that to both of them, you're going to lose them both and I think you lost one already." Sango said sadly.
"What are you talking about? Where's Kagome? She should by now come out and tell me to 'sit' about a hundred times." asked a curious Inuyasha.
Tears leaked out of Sango's eyes. "She left. That's what. All because of you. How could you do this to her after all the help she gave you? Don't you have a heart?"
"I don't. I'm a demon remember?"
"A half-demon. Even if you are a demon, it doesn't make it right for you to take it on Kagome. All you can think of is Kikyo and how she died for you and how you have to pay her back. But, what about Kagome? She was there for you when you were in danger. She risked her life!" yelled Sango.
"What's your problem? She's going to come back in a day or two and still be like her old self."
They couldn't believe how cold Inuyasha is being to Kagome. They turned and faced away from him, prepared not to talk to him.
"Fine. Leave. I don't need you people either." Inuyasha called out.
------------------------
"That jerk! Think he can say anything he wants. I'll show him. I'll show him that I don't need him. I HATE HIM!!!! To think I loved upon a dog like him." Kagome said under her breath. Oh no! What is she saying?
As Kagome was getting closer to the well, she gasped. Someone or something had destroyed the well. The sides were ruined and it looks as if everything exploded from inside. It couldn't be. How could anyone know? Kagome looked around fearfully. 'Get a hold of yourself girl.' Thought Kagome.
"No!" Kagome whispered. "No. It can't be true. It just can't. How am I supposed to get home? I'm stuck here! I can't go back. What will he think of me then? No stupid. Why do I care about what he thinks? But, where can I go? Anywhere, then with him."
Kagome slowly walked away from the well. She didn't really hate him and in her heart, she knows that she loves him more than anything in the world. But, he just doesn't feel the same as she does. It's no use. No matter how much she tries, he still loves Kikyo more then her. NO. He doesn't love her at all. All he loves is Kikyo and only Kikyo. She can't blame him. Kikyo died for Inuyasha. That's something she hadn't done. He probably just let her come along was because she was in the reincarnation of Kikyo. Yeah that's it. That's why.
Kagome kept on walking without knowing her destination, for she can only go where her heart tells her to go. It'll be a while before she can sort out her head. And by the time that she does, even she doesn't know how what she will do. She can't go home anymore. But, what about her mom and grandfather? Oh yeah, and her brother. Kagome was determined not to go to Inuyasha and to forget about him. After the things he said, it was clear that he doesn't like her anymore. Not even as a person. He just hates her so deeply. She doesn't have anyone left in the world. With the well destroyed, she will never be able to get home. What's the use. No one wants me anymore. School, no use. She barely even goes. Family, hardly ever see them. Inuyasha . . . what am I think? How can she even think about him after that?
As she was thinking about this, darkness started to fill her heart and the jewel shard. It wasn't as dark but gradually it was starting to. She was walking in Kikyo's path again. She'll be the second Kikyo. Just because she's the reincarnation didn't mean that she has to take everything from her and nothing of herself. Like some caring from Inuyasha because she's the reincarnation of his . . . true love. Oh why did she have to be the reincarnation of Kikyo? Why not someone else? But Kagome knows the truth. If she weren't the reincarnation of Kikyo, she would have never met Inuyasha and travel through the well. It was worth it she guessed.
----------------------------------
It was already three days since Inuyasha last seen Kagome and he was worried sick over her. The three-trio haven't talked to him since. They didn't even look at him. And even if they did, it was out of disgust. He didn't care. He wouldn't care. Why would he care? Like there opinion mattered to him.
Where could she be? Home, he guessed. That's the only place she can go or place that he will allow her to go. It would be so dangerous for her to be out there alone without him. But what if she is alone out there and didn't go home. What if she meets up with a demon? How is she going to protect herself without him? Oh wait, she can fight. She has her bows and arrows. But, Inuyasha couldn't help worrying about her. NO. She must have gone home. What could she do here and there wouldn't be a purpose. Oh Kagome. I just hope that you're safe. Please go home and not stay here.
"Oh Kagome, are you really that mad at me? I didn't know what I was thinking then. I guess I was just in a hurry and all. I wouldn't mind your 'sit'. Just promise me you'll come back. Please give me a chance. NO! What am I saying? I don't need her. I can do it on my own. Good riddance of her. Yeah. Without her, I'll . . . lose the extra . . . luggage. Yeah, that's it. So I hope she stays there for good." Inuyasha whispered to himself while he was lying on the grass and staring up at the sky. That's what he was saying, but that wasn't how he felt.
He never felt that Kagome was a weight. She was someone that would help him. Why does she have to be so stubborn? Can't she come here by herself and talk it over with him. It's not like I have to go to her first. Yeah. He'll ignore her. He'll pretend that he never known her. He'll just wait for her to come to him.
But, what if she doesn't come? Would he have to wait forever? Is she going to forget about him by then? He hopes not.
"Are you going to lie there all day?" asked Miroku. Finally!!! Someone that's talking to him after so long. It seem weird without Kagome and the others. No one to fight with him. Even though every time they fight, Inuyasha was sort of happy really.
"So what if I am? Is that a problem?" Still the same old attitude.
"What did happen with you and Kikyo that day?" Miroku asked, ignoring the comment.
"Nothing that you would do." Inuyasha said with a low laugh.
"Ha. Ha. Ha. Very funny. I'm being serious."
"That's a start." Inuyasha commented.
"Is there a start for you?" Miroku fought back.
"She told me that Naraku has all but one shard to complete the collection." Inuyasha said sadly. "So, now what are you going to say? That I should go look for the shard on my own? Yeah right. How am I suppose to locate it and anyways, we already have it."
"We do?" asked Miroku.
"Yeah. The one that we got, from the demon, that was killing everyone's crops."
"You mean . . ." Miroku started.
"What else could I mean you monk?"
"You don't understand. We don't have it anymore." Miroku said with wide eyes.
"What do you mean we don't have it anymore? It's not like it could walk away." said Inuyasha.
"But Sango told me that when Kagome left, she took the shard with her." Miroku prepared for the explosion.
"WHAT?!? HOW COME YOU DIDN'T TELL ME EARLIER?" exploded Inuyasha as he sat up in an instant. All the fears were there now. He never felt such thing. But it wasn't for him. It wasn't for Naraku being too powerful. It was for Kagome.
"Don't worry. I think Kagome will be safe. The demons can't go to her world remember. She'll be safe. Naraku can't get her from there. But we have to get it away from her as soon as possible, just in case." assured Miroku.
But Inuyasha still couldn't get over the uneasy feeling. He just had to get the shard away from her. But . . . to get the shard would mean that he would probably have to go to her time or she could come over. He doubts she will for a while, after what he said to her.
Inuyasha sigh. What is he going to do now? He's not giving in. The only person that would be giving in would be Kagome. He'll wait. He'll wait.
"So are you going to go after her?" Miroku asked.
"Why should I? I don't care if she ever comes back or not, as long as I have that jewel." Inuyasha lied through his fangs.
Miroku raised his staff and start hitting Inuyasha with it.
"Would you quit that?" Inuyasha growled. "What's your problem?"
"I'm just trying to put some sense into you. Don't you forget, if it wasn't for Kagome, you'll probably be dead by now." Miroku stated.
"Why do you care? It's none of your business." said Inuyasha.
"Let me ask you something. Who do you love better, Inuyasha? Kikyo? Kagome?" Miroku asked.
"Of course he loves Kagome better. He has to. Kagome is more important than anything." interrupted Shippo.
"What are you doing here?" asked Inuyasha asked. "Should you be curling up somewhere crying over her?"
"Inuyasha! What happened to you? Why are you like this?" Cried Shippo as he did just what Inuyasha said.
"Inuyasha." Miroku said sadly, shaking his head. "You change so much. Sometimes I wonder if I really do know you."
Miroku walked away, making Inuyasha think over the conversation they had. Mostly . . . Kagome . . .
"No. I have to get the shard away from her. I can't let my anger put her in danger. No matter what happens, I won't let her get hurt. Maybe if she did leave, it would be the better. But if I go see her, she'll think that I miss her so much that I went looking for her after such a sort period of time. But it's true. I do miss her like hell. I'll just say that if she's going to go, she has to leave the shard behind. Yeah that's it. She'll just think that I came for the shard and not for her. Then she'll never want to come back. But that's not what I really want. I want her by my side. But I can't be damn selfish. I have to think about her safety. But it hurts. It hurts to think how Kagome is feeling right now. It hurts to not know how she is." Inuyasha said to himself.
Inuyasha started to walk toward the well. The well that started everything. If it wasn't for it, he would have never met Kagome. He was grateful for it, but he never said it. As Inuyasha walked, he started asking himself questions that even he doesn't know.
"What was it that made me say those things to her? I would have never said that in the past. But now, even I don't know myself. I was in such a rush to see Kikyo that I just forgot --- how Kagome would feel. I have to stop doing that. Like Sango said, I'll lose them both if I don't choose. NO. I did already. I choose Kikyo that day. I told Kagome. I made it clear. But how come I can't make my heart say that? Kikyo died for me. She gave up her life for me. I have to repay her. But . . . if I'm just repaying her, why do I still have the feelings I have for her fifty years ago. I still love her. I can't let Kikyo be heartbroken again. But I can't have Kagome's heartbroken too." Inuyasha was furious.
"This is so fucking hard. No matter what I decide, one of them will be heartbroken. God damn it. So much pressure. At least I know Kagome's safe and sound in her home. I wonder if she's ever going to forgive me. Why do I care what she thinks? She's probably happy to leave me." Inuyasha whispered.
"What the FUCK?" yelled Inuyasha. Inuyasha saw what Kagome saw when she went here a couple of days ago. Burnt. Caved-in. everything was gone. Was Kagome this mad that she had to destroy everything? Wait. That can't be. How could she do it? If she destroys it, how did she get home? Kagome couldn't have. She didn't even have the things she needed to do so.
"Oh Damn." realization hit Inuyasha. If Kagome has the last piece of the shard and if the well is destroyed, that means . . . KAGOME IS STILL HERE!
"Oh crap. Kagome, don't you dare!!!" yelled Inuyasha. He hurried to tell the others hoping for their help.
"Kagome, please be alright. Why didn't you come back to us when you saw the well destroyed? Shit. It's all my fault. I was the one that told her to leave and get out of my sight. Did you have to listen that GOOD? Where can you be? Where can you go to?" Inuyasha asked himself.
"SHIPPO!" yelled Inuyasha.
"Humph. I'm not going to talk to you. You big meanie." Shippo said sadly.
"Would you stop that already you whip. It's about Kagome." Inuyasha said angrily.
"Oh now, you start thinking about her uh. Well, it's too late. She's gone. She's gone. All because of you." Said Shippo still not getting Inuyasha's meaning. "Why did you have to be like that? I don't get you anymore! I don't like you anymore! I hate you! I don't even know who you are anymore!"
"Would you shut up already? Where are Miroku and Sango?" Inuyasha asked impatiently. Never have he thought that he would be in need of them. But his was Kagome he was talking about. He didn't care about those things anymore. For somewhat of a view, he starts to think of them as a friend. But, now, Kagome is more important. He didn't have time to worry about any of these things now.
"Why? Do you even care?" Shippo shot back.
Inuyasha grabbed Shippo by his collar and parting only inches away from touching. "You listen, and listen clear. Tell me where they are or I can't promise what will happen to Kagome."
"Kagome! They went out to the woods to get some supplies for tonight." Shippo said in a hurry.
"Now, that was easy, wasn't it?" Inuyasha rushed off to the woods hoping that they haven't gone far. "Hold on Kagome. Just hold on." Whispered Inuyasha.
Inuyasha soon was able to pick up Sango and Miroku's scent. He slowed down when he show them just before his eyes and just beyond the set of trees. He was about to called out to them, when he started eavesdropping.
