Sunlight glinted off sharp white fangs as a certain hanyo yawned, stretching his back. It had been the first time in days he had actually slept, knowing they were safe near the village Lady Kaede lived. He wasn't going to admit it, but whenever the old hag was around he some how felt safer. Maybe it was because of her connection to Kikyou…

Grrr stop that, you can't lose focus on this now, don't, not when the jewel is almost complete, he thought scolding himself inside his head. He never realized just how much that girl actually **did** get into his head.

"Inuyasha!" he looked down, watching as Shippou scurried by on the ground calling his name, following by a very familiar purple haired wench. He smirked as he heard the fur ball calling him more and more. Some sort of twinge hit his heart as he heard the girls' laugh, no doubt at the immature little fox demon in front of her. His golden eyes saddened but as quick as it came the look was gone.

Kagome climbed out of the well, her pack nearly dragging her right back down into her own time. Ignoring the heavy sack she carried she nearly toppled over as she tripped on something…more like someone actually.

"Oh! Shippou!" the now wide awake fox cub scurried into her arms as she cradled him, "sorry! I didn't see you there! Where is everyone else?"

"Inuyasha told me to wait here for you today, to make sure you showed up! They're in at the campsite, come come!" he scurried ahead of her. Giving a sigh she heaved the bag onto her back and started to run after the very active cub. They sprinted past the village and into a clearing. Up a head she could see the small tamed forest they usually spent their nights in now-a-days. Finally coming to a stop she bent down leaning her hands on her knees while sucking in as much breath as possible.

"Getting a little out of shape now are we?" she looked up, meeting the eyes of Miroku with a smile.

"Never, you take this and tell me if you'd be a little out of breath," with out much warning she flung the pack at him, nearly knocking him clear on his butt.

"OUF!" was all she got out of him and she laughed. She looked down as Shippo ran around her ankles furiously.

"Come on! We have to find Inuyasha! Come on!" he tugged on her skirt and she laughed. Patting his head she grabbed a cup of ramen from her bag, bribery for Inuyasha, and headed towards a pack of large trees. "Inuyasha!" Shippo yelled frolicking a ways ahead of Kagome. "Inuyasha Kagome is here!" she laughed and stopped under a huge tree. Shaking the cup of ramen she looked around. Inuyasha's eyes twitched and perked up at the familiar sound on dry noodles clicking together.

"Peace offering Inuyasha!" she gave a startling cry as he dropped down only inches away from her. She smiled, bringing the cup up between them, "forgive me?"

"Feh," he snatched it away from her taking a few steps back trying to clear his nose from her sent. Walking over to the tree he slumped down cross legged as Shippou raced over, leaping on top of his shoulders.

"Aww c'mon Inuyasha, you can't stay mad at me forever. I needed to get new clothes and shower, besides I had school,"

"Feh," she smiled crouching down next to him. Bringing up her hand she scratched behind his ear. It twitched with liking, clearly having a mind of it's own. He grabbed at his ear, turning not so scary golden amber eyes onto her. She just smiled again hoping her ramen idea did work. "Feh." Turning around he decided to ignore her. The two little white ears poking out of his hair drooped down, flattening on his head as she stood and started to walk away.

"Okay then…I guess I will just have to give the rest to Sango, I'm pretty sure she enjoys ramen just as well as a certain youkai does," she couldn't stop the grin from breaking out across her face as his ears perked up, twitching towards her.

"You don't have more,"

"Oh yes I do! Bbbbbuuuuttt …..it all goes to Sango since somebody is being to stubborn to forgive little ol me for wanting to get cleaned up before she stayed for the next couple weeks," that did it, Inuyasha shot up, looking at her with questioning eyes.

"She doesn't touch my ramen," a hint of humor in his voice. (a/n ooc oooohhh the horror….but it's my ficcie so deal! ^,^) He started to walk towards her, finally shrugging the little demon off his shoulders, who only jumped onto Kagomes'. "Why are you staying?"

"I just noticed I've been gone more then I've been here, and I really would like to find the rest of the shards. Grandpa is ready to tell everyone I'm dead for petes sake!" Inuyasha just smirked. Good ol Gramps, he thought as the joined the others at the small hut they managed to build.

"Hello Kagome, I didn't know you were back," she smiled faintly at the miko and Kagome gladly returned it.

"Yeah, I'll be staying for a while now," she inwardly smiled as she shot a quick glance at Inuyasha, who wasn't paying much attention.

"We're going to leave in the morning," he muttered crossing his arms and leaning against the wall. Kagome silently sighed and nodded, taking a seat with Shippou in her arms.

Yawning Kagome snuggled down into her sleeping bag, careful not to disturb Shippou at the end of her bed. Resting her eyes shut gently she listened to the low steady breathing of her friends. Someone stirred, causing her eyes to open slightly. Inuyasha was walking past as she did so, glancing down at her. His eyes met her half open ones, stopping for a moment before continuing outside.

"Goodnight," she mumbled knowing her heard her. She smiled as a grunt came from him and nothing else.

Suddenly a feel raced through her, causing her to bolt up in her bed. Looking down the kitsune seemed undisturbed so she got up walking to the door of the hut. Her navy blue eyes scanned around the area, stopping on the bush that was near Inuyasha's tree.

"Inuyasha,"

"Feh,"

"A shard," his eyes popped open, jumping down from the tree to look at her.

"Are you sure?" he didn't sense anything, nor smell something suspicious. Her eyes widened pointing behind him. Turning around his eyes too widened. "Bah!" he jumped back as a half demon swiped at him. The demons' eyes were a dark honey colored yellow.

"You have the shard I seek, give them to me," it hissed, barging it's large teeth. Inuyasha rested his hand on Tetsusaiga glaring at the half-youkai. "Fine have it your way." He lunged forward, swiping at Inuyasha, who barely moved out of the way. Pulling out Tetsusaiga it transformed as he and the other demon faced off. Kagome just stood there staring in shock. Inuyasha be careful, she thought looking over at them.

Jerking her head to the side something glimmered in the nights' light. Eyes? She thought watching the dark figure creep through the darkness. She gasped as she heard Inuyasha cry out. He was now down on the floor, tetsusaiga off to the side out of his reach.

"Inuyasha!" she took off running seeing the other half-youkai ready to strike, "watch out!" pushing him out of the way she screamed as everyone else came running out. The demon's claws ran along her side causing blood to splatter around them.

"K-Kagome!" his eyes widened at the girl in his arms, bleeding from her abdomen. Damn you, his eyes lit with rage at the surrounding beasts. "You're dead." He lashed out at both the youkai's, slashing their faces. They whimpered and retreated off into the woods faster then Inuyasha could follow.

"Inu-Inuyahsa?" he turned back as Kagome coughed looking over at him with everyone surrounding her.

"Kagome are you okay?" he bent down next to her, cringing at the sight of her blood where her school shirt had been ripped. I'm going to kill them for this, he thought bitterly.

"Y-yeah I'll be fine," she squeezed her eyes shut in pain as Sango tried to move her. Inuyasha shoved everyone else away and scooped her up in his arms, avoiding her cuts. Inside he laid her down as Sango shooed him and Miroku away so she could clean her up.

All was silent as Sango ran a cool cloth on Kagome's cuts, wincing when she did. Her darks eyes looked at Kagome's pained expression and she sighed.

"Why?" Kagome opened her eyes at Sango.

"What do you mean why?"

"I mean, why did you do that? He-he's stronger then you, and these cuts are pretty bad…he would heal batter then you," Sango rested her eyes shut for a bit as she pulled out Kagome's first aid kit. She was a bit startled by her question.

"They were going to ambush him, I couldn't let him just sit there and say nothing," she replied quietly, causing Sango to look at her again.

"You can't keep taking risks like that Kagome, one day you're going to be way in over your head and you won't…won't…" Kagome gave Sango a sad smile and moved her hand over hers'.

"You're starting to sound like Inuyasha," that caused a angered, yet goofy smile to spread across her best friend's lips.

"Don't ever say that okay? Or I'll leave you to Miroku's care when you're injured,"

"Feh!" they both laughed at Inuyasha, whom was listening the whole time from outside.

"Yeah right, like he'd let that happen," Sango whispered giggling a bit while looking over at the opening of the hut. You got that right, Inuyasha thought crossing his arms over his chest.

"Hmmm," two silver eyes peeked out of the darkness surrounding the hut that Inuyasha and his friends camped out in. A soft chuckle coming from the lady in black and blood red echoed silently in distance. Her lips curved up in a wild grin as two fang like teeth were exposed. Running her tongue along her teeth her eyes narrowed as Inuyasha and Miroku walked out of the hut along with Shippou. "Those boys may be a nuisance if I want the girl…this problem will be eliminated."
