Chapter Eleven: Getting Ready For The Party
True to her word the next day Kagome was wearing a short black pleated skirt with a black off the shoulder shirt that had a sleeve on one side and a strap on the other. The back of her hair was out and wavy and the rest was in a curly ponytail. Inuyasha met her at the door as instructed. “Hey Kagome, you look beautiful.” He said as she walked in.
“Thanks Yash. You're looking good too.” Kagome answered smiling. Inuyasha was wearing baggy black pants, the kind that had the faded white on the front with a red shirt over a black beater.
“So, you're not mad anymore?” He asked cautiously.
“I was never mad Inuyasha,” Kagome told him. “Just… Irritated. Jealousy is just a waste of time and it'll get you nowhere so why bother with it. Let's just forget it happened.”
“Okay,” said Inuyasha happily giving her a quick kiss. They headed for Kagome's locker and then to Inuyasha's where Sango and Miroku were. “So you still going shopping for decorations for the block party? Did you get permission yet?” he asked.
“Yes and no. I'm going to work on that right after school. My mom is head of the Good Neighbor Committee and as far as I know everyone in the neighbor hood excepting Kikyou of course, likes me. So if I have her permission I'll most likely get everyone else's. Even Kikyou's mom likes me. She loves my cookies.” Kagome said smiling. “So how about we meet at Sango's around four and we'll take her car to go shopping?”
“Fine with me.”
“I'll be there.”
“Me too.” They all gave their consent.
“I'm going to invite Kagura and Kanna, does anyone mind?”
“Nope,” they answered together.
“Good. Walk me to class Inuyasha?”
“Course.” Kagome was quickly falling back into her role as leader and monarch Inuyasha noted amusedly. As the walked through the halls numerous people, girls and guys stopped Kagome to ask her advice on a problem, or compliment her, or just to talk for a minute or two. “Hey Kagome, you know what I've noticed?” Kagome looked up at him quizzically. “Since we've been going out you've been getting to school on time.”
“You know what, you're right.” Kagome said somewhat amazed. “That's so weird. Do you want to come to my house after school Inuyasha? I was thinking after I get permission and everything we could use my computer to design some flyers about the party.”
“Great idea Kags,” Inuyasha said. “You're like the idea queen or something. But yeah I'll come. Want me to ride you?”
“No, I refuse to ride that monstrosity of yours with a skirt on. I'll walk you meet me.”
“You can ride side saddle.”
“And fall off?”
“You can sit in my lap.”
“No, Inuyasha.” They reached her class. “I'll see you second block.” She stood on tiptoe to give him a quick kiss then entered the classroom where someone was already calling her. Inuyasha turned and went off to his class. The day passed rather uneventfully. In fact Sango was starting to get suspicious about Kikyou's quietness. She was acting as if nothing was happening and she was still queen of the school; even though day after day more and more people were coming to Kagome for things they used to go to Kikyou for.
After school Kagome walked home once again declining the opportunity to ride Inuyasha's motorcycle and declining an offer of escort from Kouga. When she got home Inuyasha was already there sitting on the porch. “Hey handsome.” Kagome said walking up. She backed him to the wall and kissed him. Then she took his hand and led him into the house. Her mother was in the kitchen. “Hey mom,” she snagged some cookies form the jar and sat down at the table. “You remember Inuyasha right?”
“Yes, the stalker boy.” Said Mrs. Higurashi looking up from the food she was preparing and smiling.
“He's sorta my boyfriend now.”
“Oh, well it's nice to meet you Inuyasha.”
“Nice to meet you too Mrs. Higurashi.” Inuyasha sat down beside Kagome and stole one of her cookies. “You make the best cookies.” He told her. Kagome blushed.
“So mom, I was thinking maybe we could have a block party Friday. I know I have to get the permission of everyone on this block and the surrounding ones, but I thought I'd start with you. Since you're my mom and all.”
“And me being the head of the Good Neighbor Committee doesn't hurt does it?” asked Mrs. Higurashi smiling.
“Nope definitely doesn't hurt. Quite the opposite in fact.”
“Go get the a couple of my petition sheets from my office. I'll sign for you.”
“Thanks mum.” Kagome ran off and took Inuyasha with her. She brought four petition sheets and while her mom signed it she grabbed a whole bunch of those little mini paper plates and begin putting four cookies on each and wrapping them with cling wrap.
“What are you doing?” asked Inuyasha.
“Well I figure it won't hurt to give out cookies to our supporters.” Kagome said sweetly. She loaded the cookies into a paper bag and handed it to Inuyasha. “You carry these.” Then she got the petition sheets put them on a clipboard grabbed a pen and they were off. Kagome managed to charm everyone on her block and the one across the street in under twenty minutes. Inuyasha was in awe of her.
“What do you want to do when you get out of school Kagome?” He asked as they worked their way down another street.
“I haven't really decided yet why?”
“You should be a PR agent or a sales person. You really know how to tell people what they want to hear and get them to do what you want to do.”
“Ya think?” Kagome said thoughtfully. “I guess it's a natural born talent. I've always been able to do that. Never really thought anything of it.” After they got all the signatures they needed they headed back to Kagome's house to make the flyers. They still had an hour left before they had to meet Sango and Miroku. Kagome handed the signatures over to her mom so they could be filed then they went up to Kagome's room.
“Did I ever tell you I like your room?” Inuyasha asked her flopping on her bed.
“No.” Kagome was at the computer starting the flyers.
“Well I do.”
“Thanks.” They worked hard on the flyers and the finished product was great. They proclaimed the start and end time and place of the party. They also per the agreement with Miroku's uncle put in an ad about his shop. They also put the entrance price. If you didn't live in the area where the party was being held you had to pay three dollars to get in. They had to have some way to make up the money they would use on decorations and such. The actual party area would be roped off and the connecting streets blocked. Kagome got a couple of parents to agree to play bouncer and admit people who'd bought the tickets Kagome had designed with the flyer. All in all it was going great.
At the allotted time they headed off to meet Sango and Miroku. Kagome finally consented to ride Inuyasha's motorcycle with her skirt. They were the last too arrive; Kanna and Kagura were there also. “Hey guys, check these out.” Kagome showed them the flyers and tickets.
“Wicked cool Kagome.” Said Sango.
“They are very nice Higurashi.” Said Kanna formally. Kagura just looked over it and nodded.
“Thanks. Me and Inuyasha are gonna go into school early tomorrow and put them up all over the place. I put on the flyers to contact one of us six for tickets. You guys don't mind do you?” No one minded. So Kagome gave them all a share of the tickets. “We can pay off any expenses from the party with the money we make and if there's any extra we'll divide it among us.” They climbed into Sango's car; Miroku had talked her into letting him drive, and headed for the mall.
They dunked in and out of stores buying whatever they thought would be cool for the party. They got some colored paper lanterns, and things they could hang in the trees that would swoop around in the breeze like colorful butterflies and such. Sango rented Big floodlights to light the area since the paper lanterns wouldn't provide enough light once it got dark. In a sense they were really having two parties in one. The first would start around four in the afternoon so the younger children who had bedtimes could participate and then once it got dark it would really be for the teenagers. Though some children would still be around so they also got sparklers and other cool stuff for the younger partyers to have fun with. By the time they were done shopping Inuyasha and Miroku were loaded with bags and the girls carried about four bags each. There was barely enough room in Sango's trunk.
After they stored everything in Sango's house Inuyasha drove Kagome home. She did her homework, ate dinner, took a bubble bath and then headed off to bed. Right before she fell asleep she said to herself with a big grin, “This is going to be the best party ever.” And when she woke the next morning she was still wearing that grin.
