Goin' Under

Chapter One*~

When I'm Gone*~

Kagome's eyes fluttered open as a screeching beeping blared in her ears. Rolling over to smack the alarm clock on her bedside table she tumbled unceremoniously to the floor. Standing up she pulled the covers tangled in her limbs with her. Flailing her arms the comforter fell to the floor and Kagome walked slouchy to her dresser.

Taking out her outfit for today she walked into her little walk-in closet. She came out a couple minutes later sporting a dark red tube with black netting over her stomach. It was held up with four black-leather grommet (holes with metal on the side) straps. A black band stretched from her right wrist to her elbow studded at the wrist. Thin studded bands silver, black, red, and brown bracelets, and chains decorated her left wrist.

The silver chain around her neck bore a black and blue marble. Kagome then pulled on a pair of green cargo capris and laced a black grommet belt through the belt loops.

Strolling down the hallway, barefoot, Kagome entered the white tiled upstairs bathroom. She used a washcloth to clean her face, then applied black eye shadow and red eyeliner. Her dark green bangs framed her face ending perfectly at her chin. The Red tips of her shoulder-length hair rested at her collarbone contrasting with her light skin.

Running into the kitchen she stole an apple from the fruit basket on the counter. "I'm going to school."

The bustling around above her head continued and no reply was heard. "Whatever." She took a large bite out of the green apple as she slung her black bookbag over her shoulder and slipped into her wicker-black-trimmed thong flip-flops then pulled on a navy hooded jacket.

I wonder if any of the cheery Misatu's will be with me at school. Kagome thought as she waltzed carelessly down the busy sidewalk. `Cause if the kids are like their mom, I don't think I could handle them. A giggle escaped her lips as she recalled last night's events. "Oh well," her voice was lost to the roaring cars passing by.

"Wonder what kind of crappy school I'm stuck in this time." She turned up a long street that lead to a large white and brick building with platinum-looking letters spelling out `Hikaider High School' just above the double doors.

"Here goes nothing she thought

"Yo, Inu! What's up?" Miroku slammed back against a locker next to his friends.

"Miroku," Inuyasha cocked an eyebrow as he eyed his black-haired friend. "Last time you slammed into Sango's locker, your head was stuck in a girls' toilet for six and a half hours."

Miroku then eased off the locker. "Yep," Inuyasha chuckled. "You dented it good."

Miroku panicked and ran dangerously down the hall. "Tch." Inuyasha slid his textbook and binder into his arms. He had started down the hall when everything went quiet and all heads turned to his left. He followed the others' gaze and spotted the girl from last night. She was waking casually down the hall amidst whispers and stares.

He watched as she retrieved her books and entered his homeroom, only to emerge seconds later with earphones and a CD player. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Inuyasha deposited his books on an empty desk in the back of the room (opposite to where Kagome was).

He then slouched into his seat and started to read his Cowboy Bebop manga. Slowly the room filled with chatting teens.

Kagome sat on the windowsill of a large open window at the end of a hall. She nodded her head in time with the song she was listening to.

Screaming deceiving, and bleeding for you,

And you still won't hear me.

Don't want your hand this time I'll save myself.

Maybe I'll wake up for once.

Tormented dealing defeated by you.

just when I thought I'd reached the bottom.

The bell rang and she walked slowly into her classroom. Whispers filled the room and Kagome was vaguely aware that everyone else was in their seat already.

"Miss, would you please put away your CD player and introduce yourself." The young female teacher insisted. Kagome kept her face emotionless as she shoved her player into her forest green binder.

"What d'you want to know." Her voice was hollow as she interrogated the teacher.

"Well how about your classmates ask you questions and you answer them. Alright." The teacher had a smile plastered onto her delicate face.

"Fine," Kagome sighed in defeat.

"Good now stand in the front of the room and I'll call on people."

Kagome strolled up to the front of the room and thrusted her hands deep into her pockets. "Alright," the teacher searched the room as three or four hands shot into the air. "How about Toshiro."

"Why do you look like you just rose from the grave?" The brown haired boy sniggered and high-fived the many giggling friends around him.

"Now Toshiro, was that really appropriate?" She looked very distressed her smile wiped clean off her pale features.

Kagome turned her head slowly and glared at Toshiro without a word. He stopped his chuckling as his gaze connected with hers. Suddenly he started shivering and his teeth chattered together.

"Any other appropriate questions?" Fewer hands were up in the air. "Miroku."

A boy in the back with a tiny ponytail stood up. "I would like to know if you would like to bear my child?" The room resounded with roaring laughter. Even Kagome's eye's held amusement. But her scrutinizing gaze never left the still shaking Toshiro.

"Miss Sotai?" A stiff man in a business suit stood in the door, a grim look wrinkled his young face. "Would Miss Higurashi please come to the office? It's an emergency."

Inuyasha noticed the fear seeping into the pale girl's scent. She exited slowly through the doorway.

Kagome let fear dance in her eyes but kept her expression stoic as she entered the carpeted office. Once through the second door she saw her grandfather and little brother, both with red eyes. "Please sit down Miss Higurashi."

She took the third seat by her grandfather. "This may be hard to cope with, but I have some bad news." At this Sota burst into fresh sobs with his hands covering his eyes. "You're mother was in an accident, she died on impact."

Kagome froze; this was the last thing she expected…
