Goin' Under

Chapter Five

Meant To Live

OK! I am SO sorry. For the cliffy and the freakishly long wait. Anyway…I hope you'll all forgive me ( ihave been annoyingly busy.) and I don't want any flames.

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru dashed over to the railing of the bridge and peered into the inky water below. There was barely a sign of disturbance, but in seconds Kagome's body resurfaced. Immediately Inuyasha leapt from the bridge into the rushing river below. Once in he swam and with his speed and the water's current he easily caught up with Kagome.

Looking up he saw that they were underneath the bridge directly and precisely in the middle of the river. Deftly he swam to the edge of the riverbank and pulled the unconscious girl onto the land with him.

"Come on Kagome," He leaned down to listen for breathing but seeing her chest rise and fall with deep breaths was all he needed to see. Carefully lifting the girl into his arms, Inyuasha made his way back up towards the bridge. Sesshomaru's silver hair help ed a lot as well because in the dark it stood out quite well and leaded him right to the bridge.

Once he was about twenty feet from the joining of the road and bridge he heard something. Sirens blared and ambulance horns honked as their lights whirled casting a strange light on the nearby people. If there were any.

The lights were slowly getting brighter and brighter. Inuyasha realized that they were headed in this direction. Directing his attention to the bridge he saw Sesshomaru stuff his cell phone into his pocket and turn towards him and Kagome. The man gave a sad smile. Upon reaching the bridge Kagome was abruptly yanked from his arms and put on a white stretcher. The stretcher was rolled into a large, lit-up ambulance.

Inuyasha stood dazed as the paramedics talked to him.

"Sir, we are going to need to question you later." The woman's voice was soft. "Would you like to stay with her?"

He nodded dumbly and was led to the ambulance by the gentle nurse. Inside a soft light lighted it as though the lightbulb would burn out at any moment. Kagome was lying on the pure white stretcher. Her raven tresses fanned out under her head and let off the reflection on the heart monitor by the bed. The green line moved slowly and it was scaring Inuyasha how slow her heart rate was.

^*One Week Later*^

Kagome sat on the edge of the white, sheet covered bed. Her bare feet swung forward and back, bare feet brushing against the cool floor.

"Well, miss Higurashi, it looks like you're in the clear." A tall, soft-voiced doctor made marks with a short pencil on his clipboard. "You can go home now. Just call for a ride, the phone is down the hall."

"Thanks," Kagome muttered. The doctor left and Kagome slid onto the cool tiled surface. Slowly, she made her way out of the room and down the hall. She was wearing a knee-length white gown, white bandages were wrapped around her legs and there were bands of white tape-like bands where the IV needles were held in.

Strolling leisurely down the hall she stopped at the white front desk. Picking up the phone she dialed 0 and got the operator. "Misatu, Inuyasha."

Soon a ringing filled her ear. "Hello?"

"Hello, is Inuyasha home?"

"Speaking."

"Inuyasha, it's Kagome."

"I could tell. What's up?"

"I need a ride home from the hospital."

"Really," he sounded suspicious. "Why'd you call me?"

"My family is on vacation."

"Don't worry, I'll come get you."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, it's better than hanging around Sira."

Soon after the couple hung up and Kagome retreated to her room to finish packing. She had to agree that Inuyasha had a valid reason to leave and she would ask him to stay over rather than making him stay with his bitchy, new stepmother.

After securing her suitcase, she picked up her outfit from beside the suitcase and trudged to the bathroom connecting to her room. She came out wearing a black, star-covered, T-shirt and a baggy pair of cargos. Pulling on a long black coat that resembled a trench coat, she trotted towards the waiting room. Once there she sat in an empty seat and waited for her friend to arrive.

"You seem a little bit out of it, Inuyasha," Kagome said concernedly as she sat in Inuyasha's room.

He looked up at her. "Yeah…guess so…" he mumbled. He stood up as the phone began ringing. Kagome stared after his slouching form.

He had been so inattentive and spaced out recently. He had spilled his coke all over him at McDonald's at lunch. Suddenly the phone rang.

Hello?"

"Um…Yes is Inuyasha there?"

"May I ask who is calling?"

"Oh yes. I am his mother." Kagome's eyes got wide and she turned to stare at Inuyasha. He appeared as though he would cry-but that wasn't like him.

`this is ridiculous'

"I'm sorry?"

"I am Inuyasha's moth-" Kagome hung up the phone. Turning quietly she made her way over to Inuyasha.

"Inuyasha…?" He turned his head the slightest bit to acknowledge her. "Your…Your mother was on the phone."

Inuyasha whipped his head up quickly and snapped at her "She is not my mother. Got it!! She never will be either!!"

With that, he stomped out of the house without closing the door at all (K I dunno whose house they were originally at, but now they're at Kagome's.)

The raven-haired teen sighed deeply. Turning the Television off and shutting the door, she stood up and made her way to her room. Ignoring the signs she had posted on her door, she swung it opened and slammed it shut. Inside her room was almost freakishly clean. Considering her absence due to the hospital and being cooped up in the living room, she couldn't find anything wrong.

Slouching from fatigue, she slowly made her way to her bed. Kagome threw herself on the bed, intending to just crash right there. But something was under the thin sheets over her comforter. Her hand wound its way behind her and under the covers to pull up a jacket. A black jean jacket that Kagome recognized as Inuyasha's.

"Oh well…" she mumbled sleepily. She decided to return the article of clothing to him in the morning at school. She groaned at the thought. She hadn't faced school for quite a while and didn't know if she wanted to anytime soon. But she would have to miss no more school days to probably pass with an average grade. Considering that she had barely been at the school and hadn't done too well in the little time she had spent there.

Whatever…was the last thought she had before she gave way to sleep.

Okay…I got to go get something to keep me going' then I will update by tomorrow at least. LOOK for a NEW chapter. R&R!
