Gone with the Wind
Chapter 9
Sesshoumaru, Lord of the West, ran deceivingly dangerous claws through the hair of a small slumbering female as he silently noted the sun cresting against the horizon. The female in question had fallen asleep in his lap shortly before his young ward and attaché returned with several moderately sized fish for the evening meal. He had pondered, at the time, whether he should wake the woman and insist she eat, but decided against such things as he recalled her previous emotional outburst. It had been clear, at least to him, that the real source of the human's distress had been the toll their journey took on her body, and all though eating was probably just as important as rest, he could just as easily make sure she ate something when she woke. If it somehow hindered another fit of sobbing, he decided, food could wait.
Keiko had slept particularly soundly with her head against the demon lord's shoulder as the rest of her body was held in place by his arm. At some point during the night, however, her head had tipped back at an odd angle, causing her mouth to fall open as her sinuses began to rattle in a loud and distressful way.
Sesshoumaru had nudged the woman softly as he attempted to wake her and stop the god-awful racket, only to stiffen visibly when, instead of waking, she simply muttered in her sleep and turned to snuggle against his chest. At the time the great dog demon had considered throwing her from his lap. After all, he didn't let…well anyone touch him as she was. Eventually, however, the great dog demon decided such things wouldn't be necessary as he realized the woman wasn't conscious, and that waking her in the middle of the night would only serve to wake everyone else in camp.
That is how the mighty Lord of the West found himself lightly stroking the hair of a human woman as he contemplated when to rouse her while planning out their journey for the day. The act of running his claws through her hair had become a subconscious motion now, and all though he wouldn't typically engage in such behavior, he found his fingers seeking the midnight locks whenever he allowed his mind to wander.
Sesshoumaru was attempting to decide which route they would travel, something he often did to occupy the time in the early morning hours, when the faint scent of sexual pleasure suddenly assaulted his olfactory system. For a split second the great taiyoukai glared at the top of the woman's head as the shock of holding a lustful human in his arms fooled his senses into believing she had awoken. A second later he released a staggered breath as he realized, with great relief, the young woman against his chest was merely dreaming.
`Relief?' Sesshoumaru's inner voice questioned as he absentmindedly began to stroke the young woman's hair again.
`Is that what I am feeling?' He questioned again as he furrowed his brow in quiet contemplation. `Why should this Sesshoumaru feel relief that this woman, a human, does not find me enticing?'
Sesshoumaru knew many females in his lifetime. Both humans and demons alike, at some point or another, wanted him. Typically these females would end up putting themselves in shameful positions, in the hope of currying his favor. Such things were, of course, laughable and sometimes down right disgusting, but never anything to cause him concern.
`What is different this time?' Sesshoumaru found himself pondering as he shifted ever so slightly so that he could stare at the flushed face pressed against his chest. His nose flared and his back stiffened as the female body snuggled against his middle silently pleaded for contact through her intensified scent.
`Could it be?' Sesshoumaru pondered as the answers to his previous questions seemed to become painfully clear. Could it be that this time…for the first time since he could remember…his body craved the touch of a human woman?
Sesshoumaru's hand fell from the slumbering woman's hair as it rested against the hilt of tensaiga. He eyed the muttering woman quizzically, another question plaguing him, as he ran his clawed palm over the ancient metal.
“Did you know this would happen, Tensaiga?” Sesshoumaru whispered as he closed his eyes and silently cursed his bloodline. Was this the reason the sword stopped her from going through the well? Surely the great dog must be laughing at him by now.
In the land of dreams a rather content reincarnation, knowing nothing of a certain dog demon's confliction, was far less troubled…
“Mmmmmmm.” Keiko moaned as the clawed palm of the unseen man that spooned against her back worked its way under her shirt and over her bra, causing her to squirm with pleasure. She giggled softly within the confines of the dream as she attempted to wrap her sluggish legs around the man who so lovingly nuzzled his nose against the shell of her ear.
`It's about time.' Keiko's mind cooed randomly as she reacted to the sensations of the dream, despite the fact that they made no sense to her rational mind. A soft smile curled against the woman's soft lips as she turned to face her obviously skilled and delightfully amorous companion with a sleepy expression.
Keiko's eyes widened almost instantly as instead of being face to face with a forgotten lover she found herself staring into the eyes of a dark familiar man.
`No!' Her mind screamed as the claws against her breasts began to slowly edge their way to the spot just under her collar bone.
“No!” Keiko screamed as she began to squirm again, this time in terror, as she frantically attempted to push the clawed hand away from her heart.
“Not again!” The young woman exclaimed as her foggy mind suddenly noted that all though the clawed palm still remained on her body, it was now suddenly wrapped around her torso.
“Don't touch me!” She shrieked as she struggled against the strong arm; her muddled mind slowly accepting that she was awake but unable to explain how the clawed palm remained on her body.
“I will not serve you!” The young woman frantically screamed as her hand flew to cover her heart in an attempt to verify its steady rhythm.
“Woman.” Sesshoumaru growled loudly as he shook the once peaceful female as if she had suddenly gone mad. “Wake up.” He demanded as he glowered at the obviously terrified female and noted Rin and Jaken's apparent stirring. He suspected such a commotion would wake them and while he planned on rousing them soon anyways, he didn't appreciate such a disturbance to their typically quiet routine.
Keiko stilled in the great demon lord's arm as her brain slowly registered the change in scenery. Silently her trembling fingers went to the taiyoukai's hand as she attempted to pry it from her middle. “Let go.” She ordered as her body's motions became calmer and more deliberate.
Sesshoumaru noticed the young woman's change in demeanor and, deciding she was at least mostly cognizant, released the iron hold against her middle. He could tell from the way her body still trembled, and the scent of fear that emanated off of her in waves, that she was still petrified of something she had witnessed in her unconscious state. He eyed the woman skeptically, silently hoping the small measure of space he bestowed upon her might prove beneficial as she slowly regained her wits.
Keiko's gaze remained on the ground as she silently took note of her location in the clearing.
Sesshoumaru's eyes narrowed dangerously as he noted the woman's odd behavior and the increase of her heart beat. It only took the taiyoukai a few seconds to analyze the information her body unwittingly broadcast before he moved to intercept her first attempt to bolt past him.
Keiko shrieked as her path was immediately blocked by the great taiyoukai and quickly ran in the opposite direction, only to have her path impeded by the demon lord's imposing body once more.
“I will not serve you again!” She screamed out in frustration as she warily backed away from the obviously angered dog demon.
“Wench,” Sesshoumaru snorted as he narrowed his eyes again, “You have never served this Sesshoumaru. You speak nonsense.”
“I…I saw you.” Keiko faltered as the images in her dream seem to blur inside her mind. “You're hair…was different…and you're face….was……You were wearing a baboon pelt.” She blinked as identities within the dream became more confused. Why was she so sure it was him to begin with? Why was his hand the one she believed was touching her?
`She was dreaming of Naraku?' The great taiyoukai noted with interest as he lifted an elegant eyebrow. Silently his intrigue morphed into revulsion as he recalled the woman's initial reaction to the dream. Why would her scent spike in such a……manner when dreaming of the hanyou that delivered her soul to the afterlife? And how could she possibly confuse himself with that…disgusting….
“It was just a dream.” Keiko muttered softly as she placed her hand against her forehead and rubbed at the offended flesh. Ever since she fell through the well and hit her head she'd been having these dark dreams. Was this what it felt like to lose one's mind?
“I'm…I'm sorry Lord Sesshoumaru.” She offered softly, saying the taiyoukai's name for the first time, as she silently wondered just how much of her reality was real and how much was imagined.
Sesshoumaru raised his hand in a halting gesture as he analyzed the woman's confused features. No doubt the events of the last few days were taxing on her soul, and if she was reliving pieces of Kagura's life when she slept, as she seemed to imply, he supposed any human might find such things difficult to accept.
As interested as Sesshoumaru was regarding the events of the young woman's subconscious mind, he suppressed the urge to inquire further. He was simply uninterested in hearing the inevitably revolting details that would evoke such a heated response from the young reincarnation earlier. While he was certain Kagura and Naraku had never coupled, her scent reeking of the hanyou but always missing the undeniable scent of musk, he simply did not want to dwell on the multitude of scenarios a sadistic bastard such as Naraku could concoct. She had been his, the taiyoukai noted, and among youkai, that meant something.
“You should eat.” The taiyoukai more ordered then suggested as he looked to the woman and then to the left over fish from the previous nights meal. He allowed his eyes to follow her movements as her body language seemed to communicate she still felt uncertain of her safety.
`Kagura was Naraku's.' The great taiyoukai noted as he stared at the woman who tentatively pulled a speared fish free of the earth.
`This woman….Keiko…. will not be.' He silently vowed.

In the early morning hours, camp inu-tachi was just finishing up breakfast, a reticent hanyou glancing at a bustling young miko, as they prepared to embark for the day.
Unbeknownst to Kagome, Inu Yasha had been watching her for the better part of the evening and well into the night. He simply couldn't understand how someone he had so figured-out could be so….different then he originally concluded.
`Does she read lots of books like this?' The hanyou pondered silently. Did she have any idea where this particular book was headed? Just how far had she gotten?
“All set!” Kagome exclaimed cheerily as she picked up her novel after dousing the all ready smoldering fire.
Inu Yasha's eyes instantly locked on the book in the young miko's hand, to her face, and then to the book again as his ears lay flat against his head.
“You aren't gonna read again… are you?” He questioned as he eyed the girl warily.
“Yup.” Kagome answered back casually as she offered her puppy-eared friend a small smile and motioned for him to lead the way.
They had only been walking a few minutes before Inu Yasha felt the need to say something to his quiet human companion.
“What's so interesting about that stupid book?” He questioned with a guarded expression as he locked his eyes on the novel to avoid looking directly at the miko.
Kagome smiled but did not look up from the paragraph she was immersed in. “It's just exciting.” She admitted as she continued to walk and read; her eyes momentarily surveying the road ahead of her as she decided to take the responsibly of scouting-for-trees on first hand.
“How...Uh….Are you almost done with the damn thing?” Inu Yasha faltered as he attempted to keep his questions casual. Inwardly he wanted to know just how far his seemingly innocent human friend had read, while outwardly he was attempting to feign disinterest. The difficulty of such a task was starting to grate on the young hanyou's easily frazzled nerves.
“Shhhhh,” Kagome scolded, “It's just starting to get good.” She added, earning herself a wide-eyed expression from her puppy companion.
Inu Yasha fell silent as he decided to study the young miko's facial expressions in the hopes that he could discern what she was reading by the face she was making. He supposed if she was able to get through the whole book without throwing it away with disgust that would tell him all he would need to know. After all, there was the possibility she had no idea what kind of book this was….right?
Kagome's cheeks began to flush as she continued reading and Inu Yasha was sure he spotted a splotch of lotion on the top of the page she turned. As she licked her lips he found himself transfixed on her scent, her heart beat, and the subtle changes in the way she was walking.
`Was she reading that chapter?' The young hanyou wondered as he sniffed in her direction, noting she didn't seem embarrassed if she was in fact reading the indecent wording.
Suddenly Kagome's hand moved to cover her heart as she continued to read with a far off, tearful expression.
`What the hell is she reading?' Inu Yasha's agitated brain questioned as he grew completely frustrated with the effect the book seemed to have on his Kagome. Was she reading the…perverted parts? If she was then why did she look so happy about it? Was she some sort of hentai?
Kagome released a long staggered sigh and her puppy companion was suddenly on the ground beside her.
“Inu Yasha?” The young miko questioned as she raised a curious eyebrow and stared at his prone form.
One of Inu Yasha's ears twitched reflexively as he silently noted all eyes were on him. His mind had been so tuned in on what Kagome was doing that he forgot to watch where he was going and stumbled over an oddly shaped rock.
“Stupid book.” The hanyou muttered, only to have his words completely muffled as he grumbled against the dirt.

Keiko shot a certain toad demon a sour expression as she sat on Sesshomaru's shoulder like a parrot and received an angry glare. Why the toad was so pissed off at her she couldn't fathom. It's not like it had been her idea to be packed around like an oversized parcel.
When Sesshoumaru had insisted upon carry her she had originally declined, stating that she was being sarcastic at the time and didn't expect him to follow through with such a thing.
Once Sesshoumaru had made it clear that he intended to carry her whether she was willing or not Keiko had folded. Her muscles were still sore, after all, and she really wasn't looking forward to the journey that awaited them. It had been a simple matter of negotiating how she would be carried after that.
Sesshoumaru seemed to think the most logical course of action was to carry her about like a toddler, with his forearm firmly secured under her ass.
Keiko quickly decided that this form of travel was out of the question, after considering how much of her body would be pressed up against his in such a position.
After declining his first offer the young reincarnation had countered with a suggestion that she ride piggy back.
Unfortunately, that too proved unacceptable, all though this time by the great taiyoukai, as he tersely informed her, “This Sesshoumaru is not a pack animal.”
Keiko had quickly found their options limited as she noted the dog demon's missing limb. Not wanting to annoy Sesshoumaru further, she attempted to suggest she was simply too heavy for him to carry, to which he responded by snorting at the apparently absurd comment before hoisting her up on his shoulder without further discussion.
`Good compromise.' Keiko's inner voice cooed as she noted that the tall man's shoulder made a comfortable perch, despite its boniest, and that her new position gave her a much better view of the countryside as they passed. It was a little awkward at first, she admitted while recalling the times her arms brushed a pointed ear or her thigh accidentally brushed against his cheek, but now that they were moving at a somewhat steady pace and Sesshoumaru held her calves against his torso with his arm, she was able to keep her balance with minimal effort.
“This was a very good idea.” Keiko felt compelled to point out as she took in a lung full of crisp clean air. She could never recall a time when she smelled air so clean and free of pollutants. She supposed it made sense, considering she was in the past, but still found it hard to believe the air had once been so clean. It was odd, she noted while taking in her surroundings, she was feeling….at peace…for the first time in her life and in a situation where she really shouldn't.
“Thank you.” Keiko stated softly as she felt the need to express her gratitude for the tranquil moment. She let little things like kidnapping and thievery fall to the wayside as she attempted to lose herself in the moment. Moments like these were fleeting, she noted, and she fully intended to enjoy them while she could.
“You are welcome.” Sesshoumaru replied smoothly.
Keiko's eyes suddenly grew wide as the demon lord's entire form reverberated with the sound of his baritone voice. The effect, she rationalized, was not unlike what one might experience when sitting on top of their clothes washer during the spin cycle. Not that she ever engaged in such things of course, but the comparison forced her to acknowledge two distinct differences between the demon beneath her and the washing machine at home….that she most definitely did not experiment with.
First, Keiko noted, where a washing machine was flat and square, Sesshoumaru's shoulder was curved and rounded, which made it's placement a little difficult to ignore.
Secondly, the young woman admitted with a wince, where a washing machine was cold and lifeless, the demon lord was warm and most definitely alive, which made it that much more exciting.
If he talked much more, Keiko noted dismally, she stood of very good chance of being very embarrassed.
“We will…” The taiyoukai began as he attempted to alert his companions of their progress.
Quickly Keiko's hands buried themselves in the demon lord's hair as she bit her lip while trying to ignore the way the gentle roll of his voice caused her nether regions to tingle.
“Sorry.” She offered reproachfully as she released the lock of long white, silky hair before returning her hand to her lap.
Sesshoumaru flinched minutely as the woman perched on his shoulder gave his hair a small tug. He assumed she had found her center of gravity several miles back, and while he knew humans often took more time then what he felt was typically required to develop a skill; her actions suggested something had caught her off guard. As he continued on without so much as a faltered step the great taiyoukai shot the young woman a quizzical glance and attempted to analyze her body language.
She was making a point to look away from him, Sesshoumaru noted, which wasn't necessarily strange considering she more then likely feared his ire after tugging on his hair. Her cheeks were flushed as well, he tallied, all though, she appeared to be more….embarrassed then frightened or upset.
“This Sesshoumaru…” The taiyoukai began as he decided it was probably easier to ask the woman what it was that caused her to falter. His mouth snapped shut, mid-sentence, as the woman buried her fingers in the fabric of his kimono while releasing an extremely muffled squeak.
Sesshoumaru's eyebrow rose as he continued to lumber forward but directed the majority of his attention on the creature against his shoulder.
“This…” He began again.
“Eep.” Keiko squeaked softly as she pressed her knees firmly together and braced herself against the straps of the taiyoukai's armor. She could feel the skin of her face begin to burn as a feeling dread overtook her. Somehow she knew this would not end well. Not that things ever did end well, she noted, where she was concerned.
Sesshoumaru's nostrils flared as he attempted to ascertain what it was that was causing the young woman to act so strangely. She acted strangely normally, he noted humorously, but this…this was even strange for what he knew of her.
His nose began to twitch ever so slightly as the enchanting scent from before lightly caressed his senses.
`She is feeling lascivious?' The taiyoukai questioned internally as his ancient mind attempted to reason the cause. They had only been walking, he noted with an almost comical air, besides himself, what other stimulant could there be?
Sesshoumaru released a low growl from deep within his chest as he recalled her previous confession regarding a dream she had of a baboon skin covered man. He would not suffer the stench of her desire while she fantasized about the pathetic waste of flesh that was Naraku. He would simply have to derail her train of thought.
“Woman,” The taiyoukai ordered with agitation, “stop thinking.”
Keiko's knees once again pinched together as she whimpered out a small, “Huh?”
Sesshoumaru's eyes narrowed as he decided to clarify his orders. “You are recalling your dream from this morning.” He stated matter-of-factly; pausing for her to confirm his statement.
“I am?” Keiko replied dimly as she suddenly wondered what the hell made him so talkative all of a sudden.
The demon lord's nostrils flared again as he attempted to sniff out the deceit in her words. His eyes widened slightly as he found the scent of deception lacking. Was his nose finally failing him? She was obviously ashamed of her thoughts and didn't want to admit to them, but her scent had not changed. Was it possible…could something other then her dream evoke such a response?
“What are you…?” Sesshoumaru began, only to pause as he realized she was reacting again. Was it his voice that was somehow having an effect on her?
Somehow the realization that it was him, or at least a part of him, and not Naraku, caused a pleasant sense of victory to swell within the taiyoukai's chest.
“Keiko…” Sesshoumaru drawled, using her name for the first time, as he attempted to test the theory; his face cracking into the slightest of smiles as he realized his hypothesis was correct. Something about their close proximity, the tone of his voice, or possibly both was bringing her pleasure where Naraku couldn't.
`Excellent.' The taiyoukai's inner voice cooed as he continued on through the forest.
To have such power over a female was definitely an ego booster, Sesshoumaru decided, one that he intended to abuse at every given opportunity.
“Rin.” The taiyoukai stated authoritatively as his young ward ran up beside him.
“Hai Sesshoumaru-sama?.” Rin answered as she beamed up her master with love and admiration.
“Today you will learn to identify herbs.” The demon lord stated smoothly, the corner of his lip twitching ever so slightly as the woman perched on his shoulder practically shuddered.
“Hai!” The small child exclaimed happily as she gushed over the prospect of having her master teach her something instead of Jaken. It was very unsual for her lord to concern himself with matters that the toad demon could easily handle, and the prospect of getting special attention caused the young girl to positively glow.
`Oh....Hell…' Keiko's inner voice droned despairingly as, for once, it captured its owner's sentiment exactly.
