InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Goodnight ❯ Prologue ( Prologue )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Disclaimer/Claimer: I do not own Inuyasha (owned by Rumiko Takashi) or the song "Goodnight" (owned by Evanescence). But, if you dare to steal my story line or idea, I will hypnotize William's evil mutant female bunnies in heat to come after you. Then, I will send the evil mutant female bunnies in heat's original leader after you, who is the Boogie Man, and he will stuff you into a discoball, making sure to grind your bones so much that they turn to a powder. So, be warned... And, don't think I'm joking. Because I'm not.

Goodnight, sleep tight
No more tears
Goodnight morning, I'll be here
And when we say goodnight,
Dry your eyes
Because we said goodnight,
And now goodbye
We said goodnight
And now goodbye

Music echoed through the room. The light, harmonious sound brought peace to anyone who cared to listen to it. The room itself was extremely large, it was a ballroom.

Decorated with rich cream and golden hues, the room itself had an aura of calmness, and an elegance ambiance. Many people danced inside of the large room. What one would and should find odd about this was the fact that some were youkai, others hanyou, but there were even humans thrown into the mix. All three races were celebrating together, it was unheard of.

Amoung the many, two seemed to stand out the most, one a girl of human heritage, the other a boy, he was a hanyou, both glowed in young love.

The girl had long raven hair, crystal blue eyes, and a smile to stop the world. With a perfect figure, her name was Kagome Higurashi and she was only seventeen years old. The boy also had long hair, even though it was silver and put into a low ponytail, he had golden eyes with a certain spark to them, and was also smiling. He only smiled around the girl, Kagome. His name was Inuyasha Magika and was eighteen.

The both danced to the euphonic music being played, seemly truly happy. Even though, there was an air of sadness around them, almost impossible to detect, but it was still there.

"In one month, right?" Inuyasha asked the girl in his arms.

She smiled at him, "Yeah... In one month, I'll be eighteen..."

His smile grew even wider, he put his mouth up to her ear, "And then, we'll be able marry."

"...Just like... My father asked," Kagome whispered.

Inuyasha's arms wrapped around Kagome tighter, as a show of comfort and affection.

Only two years ago, Kagome's parents were killed. They were murdered, and no one had the slightest clue who would do such a horrid act. Everyone seemed to like the family, Kagome's mother, Rimi, was always very welcoming, but somewhat strict, and her father, Mikyu, was the laid-back type, and always was enjoyable company. No one could think of who would kill the two kind people.

"Want to go outside, the stars are out..." he asked her.

She nodded her head as the two let go of each other, but they still held hands. Both walked through the large door, which led to a balcony, not noticing the red eyed glare directed towards them.

Neither of the pair realized that those eyes would belong to their murderer, or that those eyes had belonged to the person who killed Kagome's parents.

Kagome stood at the very edge of the balcony, without the gate around it as support, she would have fallen off. Inuyasha stood right behind her, both hands on the railing, one on each side of her.

"You see that star?" he asked the girl.

"There are millions of stars, which one do you mean?" she asked him back.

Pulling his hand off of the railing, he pointed to it, "That one. Right next to the moon, up to the right, it's the brightest one."

Her gaze landed on the dot of light, "Why are you showing this to me?..."

"It's only in that position during autumn," he told her, ignoring her question. "I've always kept my eye on it, ever since I was around eight."

She nodded her head, realizing that that was when his mother had passed away due to an unknown sickness.

"And you told me that every star was really a soul..." he continued. "So, I choose that star to be our soul."

She glanced at him, lightly blushing from his last comment, especially the 'our soul' part...

He had a small smile on his face; "I just want you to remember it, that's all..." he shrugged.

She looked back up at the star, then glanced down to her small feet, "I won't ever forget the importance of the star, I promise." Looking back up at the dark sky, Kagome realized how breath taking the sky looked.

"Good," was Inuyasha's simple reply.

They were overcome by a comforting silence, both enjoying the company of the one they loved, each other.

One Month and Two Days Later

Lord Magika sat at his table, he was eating breakfast. He couldn't help but notice that the home was so quiet, he knew it was because his son, Inuyasha, was preparing for his marriage to Kagome Higurashi at her home. He smiled lightly to himself, he was glad the two fell in love from the very start, if they hadn't, he would have had forced them to marry, which he never would want to do. He looked at the clock, actually, it was Kagome's birthday that day. November sixth...

"Sir?" a voice asked from the doorway, he looked at the person to find that one of his maids stood there.

"I ran down to the store, and got you the newspaper you requested," she told him.

"Yes, please bring it to me," he replied. She walked up to him and handed him the paper, bowing down, she quietly excused herself and walked out of the room.

Opening the paper he read the headline, but dropped it gasping.

"I-it can't be..." he told himself, but picking up the paper once again, he read the headline.

Two Viciously Murdered...

Kagome Higurashi and Inuyasha Magika's bodies were both found yesterday in the Higurashi home. Both in a bedroom, possible been have dead for two days. It has been confirmed as a homicide, but there is no clue as to who the murderer could be...

Flash Back

Kagome slipped out of her ballroom dress, and put on a much more simple dress, she quickly pulled off her jewelry and took off her makeup with a rag. Quickly standing up, she walked through her bedroom door, out into the hallway.

Inuyasha stood there, "Ready?"

"Yup," she said nodding and smiling all at once.

He quickly grabbed her hand and ran through the hallway towards the back door of the home. Now outside, Inuyasha crouched down, "Come on."

Kagome crawled onto his back and put her arms around his neck, after that Inuyasha leapt into the air, running faster than anything Kagome had ever seen. They headed into the forest.

She began to laugh as the wind went against her face, it felt like flying...

"Having fun?" Inuyasha yelled. She nodded her head vigorously. He quickly sped up, trying to get to his destination as soon as possible.

After five minutes of nothing but running, they had come to a lake. No one was around for miles, Kagome was sure. Kagome slid off of Inuyasha, and looked around at her surroundings.

It was truly beautiful, there were trees all around giving the place a mystic glow, colorful flowers were tucked in between all of the other plants, the moon's glow gave the area an enchanting feeling.

Inuyasha walked up to the lake's shore, sitting down, he patted the ground next to him, motioning for Kagome to sit down.

Kagome lightly dipped her toes into the shallow water in front of her while she sat down.

"This place is beautiful..." she told him breathlessly.

"Isn't it?" he asked her back.

She played with the sand beneath her fingertips as an uncomfortable silence fell upon them.

"...What will happen after we get... Well, married?" Kagome asked him.

A devilish grin came to his face, "I say we start a family as soon as we can!"

She smacked him playfully and laughed, "Shut up!"

He laughed too, "I'm serious."

Kagome promptly stopped laughing, making no noise whatsoever.

"Kagome?" Inuyasha asked her waving his hand in front of her face.

"...Maybe," she told him. "I'm not sure if I want to have children right away..."

Inuyasha smiled, "I don't mind, I can wait..."

Silence fell upon the couple once again.

Kagome and Inuyasha both stared at the dark sky.

Kagome wrinkled her nose in annoyance, "When we get married, are we going to have it the traditional way?"

"I don't really understand what you mean, but I think so," Inuyasha said shrugging.

She shook her head, "I don't like the usual vows."

Inuyasha looked at her, "Why?"

"I never understood why that they always say, 'until death do us part,' I always found that pretty stupid..." Kagome trailed off.

"I suppose, if you want, I'm sure that we can take that out," he told her.

She smiled wistfully, "Do you think 'death will do us part'?"

Inuyasha looked at her in the eyes, "Nothing will do us part... Not even hell or heaven... Much less death..."

Kagome smiled at him, she laughed, "Promise?"

He nodded his head and smiled at her, "I promise."
