InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Graduation ❯ The House ( Chapter 3 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Here's the third chapter. Sorry that it took so long to get up. I kinda lost interest, but then read it at work (keh!) and got interested again. Fluff abound.

Edit 02/10/08: Found some mistakes thanks to wbaker5286 and have now fixed them! Thanks again for pointing them out!

I don't own Inuyasha.

Graduation

“Hey, Inuyasha, can you help us lift this up?” the monk asked, gesturing to the beam. The half demon nodded and effortlessly lifted the beam for the village men to secure. The foundation of the house was already complete; it was suspended about a foot off of the ground, with a single step leading up to the porch and where the front door would be placed once the walls were up.

There were two separate groups working, one of the supports to the house, and the other working on the walls to the house. Inuyasha was moving between the two groups distributing wood and helping where needed.

Kagome was with the women of the village, chatting away happily and creating pillows and other things for her new home.

It had been two days since they'd started building the house. Inuyasha was always seen with a grin on his face as he looked at the frame of his and Kagome's new home. He had to be forced by his mate to let the humans have a break every once in a while, and he reluctantly did, but not without complaints (“Keh, fine, Kah-goh-meh.”).

It was dusk now and the village workers had gone home for the day. Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippou sat near their almost completed home, staring up at the stars and dreaming of their lives to come.

Kagome sat in Inuyasha's lap, her back to his chest, with the fox kit snuggled up against her stomach, sleeping deeply and snoring slightly.

A shiver ran down the trio's spines as a powerful and familiar aura caressed their own. Kagome and Inuyasha sprung up, Shippou gripped tightly in Kagome's hold, their auras fluctuating with the possible and probable threat. Inuyasha pushed his mate and pup behind him, hand resting on the hilt of Tetsusaiga, lip curled back in a snarl.

A gliding two headed dragon dropped down out of the sky in front of them and deposited its passengers. The powerful demon Lord Sesshomaru, along with his human ward and toad thing disembarked.

“Miss Kagome! Rin is so happy to see you again!” the young teen said as she ran up to Kagome, hugging her around the waist. “Lookie, lookie at the flowers! Lord Sesshomaru let us stop so Rin could pick some!” She pointed to the circle of flowers on top of her head. She was now at the age of thirteen and officially a `woman.' Kagome mentally giggled at the memory of a pale (paler) Sesshomaru demanding that she `heal' Rin.

“They are very pretty Rin, and it's good to see you too,” Kagome said with a smile.

“What do you want you bastard!?” Inuyasha yelled at his older half-brother.

“How dare you speak that way to the great Lord Sesshomaru you filthy—” Jaken's squawking was cut off.

“Jaken, silence,” Sesshomaru said coldly.

“Inuyasha, calm down,” Kagome whispered soothingly to her mate. “If he came here with Rin then that means that he doesn't want to fight. Try to calm down and let's see what he wants. If it's not good, then feel free to pound him.”

Inuyasha snorted, smirked slightly at his mate's humor, and relaxed his stance slightly. “What do you want?” he asked Sesshomaru again.

“This Sesshomaru may despise you, little brother, but demon law dictated that when you took a mate, you received half of father's lands,” the demon lord spoke.

“Really?” Inuyasha asked surprised.

“Yes, little brother. It is the east side of the Western Domain. There is a castle there as well, with servants to keep it up whenever you wish to visit.” He turned his back on the half-demon and his family. “Come Rin.”

“Yes, Lord Sesshomaru! Good bye Miss Kagome!” the teen said cheerfully as she scampered after the fearsome demon. Jaken gave the half-demon a glare before he hopped onto the dragon.

“Thank you, Lord Sesshomaru!” Kagome thanked as the dragon flew away.

“That was weird…” Shippou commented.

“He certainly is an enigma,” Kagome concurred.

`I have land?” Inuyasha asked.

“Apparently so,” Kagome answered.

The bushes that led in the direction of the village rustled and Miroku, Sango and Kaede emerged, all three battle ready.

“Where's the demon?” Sango asked, readying her giant boomerang.

“It was only Sesshomaru,” Kagome told her friend.

“What did he want?” Miroku asked as they relaxed their battle stances.

“He gave me land,” Inuyasha answered.

“You have land?” Sango asked as equally surprised as Inuyasha had been earlier.

“That's what he said,” Shippou snickered.

“If all is well with yeh, then I shall head home,” Kaede said, turning back towards the village.

“We'll be heading back as well, see you tomorrow,” Miroku said, following after the old priestess.

“Good night, Kagome, Inuyasha, Shippou,” Sango said, following after the monk.

“Night,” Kagome replied.

“Good night Sango!” Shippou chirped.

“Let's hope that it's a better night,” Inuyasha muttered.

“It can't get much worse,” Kagome commented.

“Unless it rains,” Shippou said.

“Don't jinx us, runt,” Inuyasha growled.

“Well, I don't know about you, but I'm tired,” Kagome said, punctuating her comment with a yawn. Inuyasha grunted his agreement. They cuddled inside of Kagome's sleeping bag, Kagome's back pressed tightly against Inuyasha's chiseled chest and Shippou pressed against the priestess's stomach.

Shippou breathed in his surrogate mother's scent, relishing in its sweetness. Wait…the young kit thought. He sniffed again. If that's what I think it is…I'll have to talk to Inuyasha tomorrow to see if he noticed anything. And with that last thought, he fell asleep, nose pressed into the indent that Kagome's belly button made.

---------

Inuyasha woke to the sun shining down on his face. He grumbled and pushed his nose deeper into his mate's hair, bathing his senses in her sweetness and musk. Wait, that wasn't there before, he thought as he trailed the smell down to her stomach, right where Shippou had his own nose pressed.

Inuyasha nudged the kit lightly, wanting to see if he'd noticed as well. The kit grumbled and peeked open an eye.

“Do you smell that?” Inuyasha asked quietly, too low for Kagome to hear and awaken. The kit nodded and smiled, pressing his nose back into Kagome's stomach.

Inuyasha grinned as well, looking like the proverbial kid in a candy store. He pulled Kagome closer to him, resting his hand over Shippou and his new pup. His grin grew at that thought. His pup. He never thought he'd be so lucky.

He felt Kagome move, her breathing and heart rate quickening, signaling that she was waking up. He felt her stretch her legs out, loosening her tight muscles. “Good morning,” he whispered to her and he nosed the shell of her ear.

“Morning,” she yawned back, snuggling back into his warmth. She pet Shippou's hair, slowly bringing him back to the land of the wakeful. He grumbled, crawled out from the sleeping bag, mumbled something about a bush, and disappeared into the surrounding shrubbery.

“I have good news for you,” Inuyasha told his mate.

“Oh, really?” she asked, turning around in his arms. She looked up into his grinning face and couldn't help the one that formed on hers. “It must be really good news if you're grinning like that.”

“You know that comment your mother made after your end of school thing?” he asked.

“Yeah, but what does—” she stopped mid sentence and thought. “Do you mean—?” She looked up at her mate for confirmation, a smile slowly spreading across her face. “I'm pregnant?” she whispered. Her mate nodded, the grin still full blown on his face. She squealed and latched onto him, holding him tightly to her. “We're going to have a baby?”

“A pup, Kagome,” her mate corrected her. She grinned and kissed him hard on the lips.

“A pup,” Kagome giggled. Inuyasha grinned as well and sat up, pulling her into his lap.

“The house should be finished today and then we can start on stuff for the pup,” Inuyasha mumbled into her neck, rubbing circles over where the pup was growing.

Shippou came back from the bushes and crawled into Kagome's lap. He bounced excitedly, smiling up at her as he chirped excitedly, “Yeah, Kagome! We need to make a crib and decide which room is gunna be his and we gotta find out what to name him and you're gunna get big fast!”

Kagome laughed at his enthusiasm. “We'll also need to go visit my mother and maybe see about a doctor's appointment.”

“Dah-ktors appoin-men?” Shippou asked, trying to pronounce the foreign words.

“Yeah, it'll see if I'm healthy and see if I need any supplements of vitamins and nutrients,” Kagome explained. “It can help check the health of the pup.”

“How can you check the health of the pup when it's still inside you?” Inuyasha asked, confused.

“You can come and you'll see,” Kagome told him.

Inuyasha perked up and grinned. “We'll go visit your mother once we finish the house,” he told her.

Kagome nodded and looked down at the fox kit in her lap. “Will you be alright while we're gone, Shippou?”

“Of course!” the kit chirped.

“Keh, you'll need to look after the house while we're gone, `kay runt?” Inuyasha inquired.

“Yes!” Shippou answered back in all seriousness.

“Well, now that that is set, the villagers should be here soon, so let's get a fire going so that I can start on breakfast,” Kagome said, standing up from her mate's lap.

“Ramen?” Inuyasha asked hopefully as he stood up and followed her over to her huge yellow backpack.

Kagome giggled. “Of course, Inu,” she laughed quietly. With that promise, Inuyasha enthusiastically got the fire going and set up Kagome's cooking pot over the hot flames.

They ate quickly and just as they were finishing, the villagers arrived, ready for the last day of construction. They quickly put together the rest of the walls and installed them, making the house take shape. They started construction on the stairs that Kagome and Inuyasha had designed and installed the sliding doors that separated some of the lower rooms from each other and the sliding front door.

The stairs were soon completed and the second floor was under construction. The walls were soon up, and the roof constructed. All in all, by the time that the home was completed, it was early evening and Inuyasha and Kagome were ready to head towards the well.

“Guard the house well, runt,” Inuyasha grunted as he picked Kagome up bridal style and walked towards the ancient well.

“Yessir!” Shippou answered.

“We'll be back in a couple of days, okay Shippou?” Kagome asked the kit.

“Mhm,” Shippou nodded and watched as the couple disappeared into the bright blue light.

The couple reappeared in modern day Japan and Inuyasha hopped out of the well and up to the door before setting his mate back down on her own feet. “Mama's gunna be so excited!” Kagome gushed as she pushed the door aside and stepped into the early summer's evening sun.

They quickly made their way to the house and went in through the front door. “We're back, Mama!” Kagome yelled as she slipped off her shoes.

“Welcome back!” Mama Higurashi greeted as she walked towards them from the kitchen, wiping her hands on her apron along the way. “Can I assume that you're back because…?” she trailed off as she smiled knowingly and hopefully at her daughter and son-in-law.

Kagome nodded enthusiastically and her mother squealed, enveloping her in a tight hug. “Would you mind making me a doctor's appointment?” she asked her mother.

“Of course, honey. I'm assuming that Inuyasha will be accompanying you?” she asked, smiling at the half dog demon. Kagome nodded and Inuyasha replied with a `keh.' “I can't wait until your first ultra sound!”

“Ultra sound?” Inuyasha questioned his mate.

“It's a device that allows us to see the pup before it's born,” Kagome explained. Inuyasha cocked his head to the side in confusion, but Kagome just waved it off and told him that he'd see.

“I'll see if I can get you an appointment for tomorrow, okay Kagome?” Mama Higurashi asked her daughter as she headed towards the phone. Kagome nodded in acceptance and led her half demon into the kitchen, knowing that he must be hungry.

I hope that you liked it! I sure as hell had fun writing it. I hope that there aren't any mistakes and that if there are someone would be kind enough to point them out.
