Chapter 8 Gentle Demon

Kagome drifted off to sleep when she had finally relaxed in Inuyasha's presence. He kissed her forehead before he went to get a rag to clean Kagome up then himself.

He went into the bathroom down the hall that he had seen Kagome use before. He opened the big cabinets by the sink and found the top one had the towels and washrags. He grabbed one that looked older and ran cool water over it. He didn't want to ruin any nice towels in case they meant something to someone.

Inuyasha returned and crouched next to the couch where Kagome laid. He gently whipped the mud and sweat droplets from her face. He couldn't help the smile that graced his lips as he watched her peacefully sleeping.

So very different from the way he saw her less than a half an hour prior. She looked as though she didn't have a care in the world. She looked comfortable and content. So calm and innocent. So beautiful.

He softly traced her cheekbone with his finger tips, careful of his claws. Noticing his claws reminded him he needed to replace his charm around his neck. He walked over to where it fell by the doorway.

He noted the clasp was the piece that snapped and sighed. Knowing he would need to pay a visit to the crafter to fix it. But the powers would still work well enough for the time being. He tied the two ends of the chains firmly around his neck and the concealing took affect immediately. He found his ball cap in the corner. He picked it up then throw it on the recliner. He didn't feel the need to irritate his ears since he would hear if anyone was approaching the house.

Inuyasha sat back down in from of where Kagome lay sleeping. His back resting on the couch. He made a noise as he stretched his arms above his head. All of his muscles seized in protest. He hadn't realized how much that scuffle with Koga had taken out of him. He relaxed and lowered his head to try and get a little rest to regain some of his energy.

He raised one knee and rested the elbow from the same side on it. He closed his eyes and relaxed his body completely. He could already feel his strength returning.

Kagome heard Inuyasha grunt. She opened her eyes quickly. When she saw he was only stretching, she relaxed again. She watched as he relaxed from his stretch and rested his arm on his knee.

When he didn't move anymore she noted that he was trying to get a little rest. As quietly as she could, she repositioned herself so her arms and hands were free. She carefully reached her hand up, not touching Inuyasha. She slowly and gently took hold of the appendages on top of his head, as to not surprise him, and began to message them. He felt he soft touch and wasn't surprised by it. He allowed her to continue.

Kagome rubbed circles with her index finger and thumb. A vibration built up in Inuyasha throat and escaped as a low growl that sounded like a purr to Kagome. She giggled. Inuyasha smiled at her small happy sound.

"Hey." She said. His ear twitched in her direction to indicate he was listening. "I'm kind of chilly." He opened his eyes and turned to look at her. She made a pitiful face to indicate that he should 'help' her with her 'problem.'

He grinned. He hurriedly jumped to his feet and climbed over her and positioned himself behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and nuzzling her neck to 'get her warm.' Kagome laughed and giggled with every tickling breath on her neck.

Inuyasha began kissing the exposed skin on her neck. Kagome relaxed her muscles from her giggles and leaned her head so more of her neck was accessible to Inuyasha. His kisses turned more passionate rather than joking and his teeth nipped at the skin on her shoulder. Kagome's heart beats began to speed up.

She rolled on her back allowing Inuyasha to lean over top of her. Inuyasha gave her a peck on the lips and they smiled at one another. Inuyasha rested his head on her shoulder and took in her sweet scent into his sensitive nostrils. Kagome hugged his tight.

"I know that you're different than the rest." She said softly.

Inuyasha sat up slightly, not forcing her to release her hold on him. He looked at her questioningly, as if to say 'what are you talking about?' She continued.

"From other demons. The only one I thought I had met was your brother Sesshomaru, and then I find out Koga is one. Koga was so mean to me, and he hurt me in more ways than one, but you protected me. I bet most demons wouldn't have done that for a human." Kagome said.

Inuyasha's eye became soft and warm. "All demons aren't as mean and cold as you think. Yeah I take after my mother a lot with my human half, but my father was a very kind and gentle demon. As well as one of the most powerful of all in his time." He paused, reminiscing on memories of his parents. "Sesshomaru believes that we have possibly surpassed my father in strength, but I don't think we will ever even come close to what he could have done had he ever had to use his full power."

Kagome couldn't imagine how many demons really existed in the world. Let alone in her town. The disguise themselves to look like everyone else, so there's no telling who is and who isn't. She just pulled Inuyasha back down to lay like he was before. He didn't fight her. He loved laying directly in the scent of her hair. Kagome closed her eyes and could feel Inuyasha's heart beat against her chest. She smiled and hugged him close.

"I love you Inuyasha." She whispered. Inuyasha nuzzled closer to her neck and whispered back.

"I love you too Kagome."

The two of them laid engulfed in each others warm embrace for, what Kagome describes as, not long enough, before Inuyasha sat up and kissed Kagome's pink lips. He carefully pulled out of her hug to get up. He walked over to the recliner where he throw his ball cap and place in on his head. Kagome rolled on her side and watched him curiously. He saw her questioning look and gave her a smile with a wink.

"Your housemate is home." He informed her sweetly. Kagome blinked then realized it was really late and he meant Sango had finally come home. She sat up and stretched a little. "I'll get us something to drink." He told her before heading to the kitchen.

Kagome flipped on the tv and found something Sango would have expected her to watch. She rested against the back of the couch, waiting for Inuyasha to return and join her.

Moments later, Inuyasha reappeared with two glasses in his hands. He handed Kagome one and she gladly took it. He took a seat next to her on the couch and put his arm on the back of the couch around Kagome's shoulders. She sipped at her orange juice Inuyasha had given her and leaned into his side. They both smiled at each other.

A few minutes later, Sango re-entered the house.

"Welcome back Sango!" Kagome greeted her warmly and Inuyasha gave a small waved and said hey.

"Hey you guys! I hope you two 'behaved' while I was gone!" Sango teased as she throw her jacket on the coat rack by the stairs. Kagome rolled her eyes at her.

"So how was your date with Miroku?" Kagome asked. Sango walked up the first step and sighed heavily in obvious bliss over the sound of his name.

"Amazing!" She almost sang. She slowly continued up the stairs. "But I am pooped! I'm going to bed! Oh yeah, I finished getting all your stuff in the guest bedroom earlier Kagome! I forgot to tell you before I left."

"Thanks Sango! You're the best!" Kagome said cheerfully. Sango smiled back at her warmly.

"Hey are you staying the night Inuyasha?" She asked due to how late it was. Inuyasha nodded. Sango gave Kagome a sly grin. "Well you two have a good time tonight! I'll see you guys in the morning. Goodnight!" She gave them one more wink and was off to bed upstairs.

Kagome let out a big yawn and Inuyasha looked down at the sleepy eyed Kagome. "I'd better get you to bed or you will be exhausted in the morning." He told her. She shook her head in resistance.

"But... I'm... Not... Sleepy...." She managed to say between another big yawn. He grinned, put his and her glasses on the coffee table, and scooped her into his arms placing her on his lap. He put her head on his chest and held her close. She couldn't help but get drowsy as she listened to the soothing rhythm of his heart beat.

Inuyasha heard her breathing become more even as she drifted off to sleep fairly quickly. He stood with her in his arms and followed the scent of Kagome to a room filled with her things. He gently placed her on the bed and covered her with the sheets.

He walked to the other side of the bed and flipped on the lamp on his side. It wasn't very bright but just enough to illuminate the room. He slid his shirt over his head, causing his cap to go with it. He dropped them to the floor. He carefully untied the charm around his neck to prevent further damage to the chain. He placed it gently on the nightstand as his true features became visible once more.

The unconscious Kagome felt the aura in the room change but wasn't alarmed. She felt safe in this aura. Her hanyou's aura. Her eyes fluttered open and she saw his silver hair flowing down the bronze toned skin of his back and shoulder in the dim lamp light. She could see the claws and single fang tucked over his bottom lip and felt a chill at how handsome he really was. She watched for a few more seconds just in awe of his magnificence.

Kagome made a purr of approval in his direction. Inuyasha jumped at her sudden noise, but quickly recovered and smile.

"Oh you like what you see do you?" He said teasingly. He flexed his muscles. When he changed poses, Kagome could see his muscles rippling. She bit her lip.

"Get your sexy ass over here and lay with me!" She squeaked with anticipation. He laughed. Sliding under the covers and flipping off the lamp in a single motion, he was holding Kagome to his chest in moments.

She was comforted by his warm skin and calm aura. She quickly slipped out of her sundress and cuddled back in his arms. Inuyasha felt his heart rate accelerate as his hands felt the bare skin of her hips and back. The only thing between him and her were his pants and the thin material of her bra and panties.

Kagome heard the acceleration of his heart. She looked up at him. "I should put something else on." She said with a grin.

"N-no!" Inuyasha choked out. He blushed at his awkwardness and cleared his throat to speak again. "I mean, if you're comfortable, I don't want to.. Uhh.. Make you uncomfortable because... Uhhh..." He trailed off. Kagome giggled leaning up and kissing his lips to hush his babbling. He gladly shut up, grateful she spared him the rest of his long, pointless explanation, and kissed her back.

She pulled back, giving him a sleepy smile before letting out a huge yawn and cuddling back into his warm chest. His smooth rhythmic heart beat lullabied her into a deep slumber.

Inuyasha heard her breaths even out and knew her consciousness had slipped away. He placed his nose in her hair and soon drifted off with her into his own dreamworld.

Kagome woke up the next morning late in the afternoon. She groaned as she stretched. Her hand reached to gently waken her boy toy she had fallen asleep with, but found only sheets and a pillow. She shot up in a panic. He was nowhere in the room. She quickly jumped out of bed and ran of the bedroom door towards the main part of the house.

She smelt something cooking in the kitchen so she started there first. She was panting from her hast as well as her anxiety when she finally reached it's entrance. She gripped the door frame to prevent herself from collapsing. She found both Sango and Inuyasha making breakfast staring at her with confused faces. Sango's jaw dropped when she saw her.

"Kagome! Put some cloths on!" She teasingly. Kagome looked down and realized she only had on her bra and panties from last night. Kagome shrieked as she ran back to the bedroom she had just come from. She throw on a pair of jeans and a fitted tee and quickly returned to the kitchen.

Inuyasha and Sango were both laughing about the situation when she finally came back. Inuyasha greeted her the second time with a kiss. Sango was putting the last of the food on the table.

"Breakfast for lunch?" Kagome asked jokingly. She didn't care since she just woke up anyways. Inuyasha chuckled.

"Well, we both just got up not too long ago our selves." He informed her. Sango laughed.

"Yeah and 'Chef Boyardee' over there knows how to make everything!" She teased Inuyasha.

He huffed in response. Arguing that she just didn't know how to cook, and she came back with another snippy comment. They went back and forth a few more times before they both just laughed because they forgot what started it. Kagome smiled at their bickering. She knew they were becoming friends. She was glad.

They all finished eating and Kagome put away the leftovers in the refrigerator while Sango placed their dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Kagome heard an unfamiliar ringtone. Inuyasha reached in his pocket and answered. Kagome just heard a few yeahs from Inuyasha and an 'I'll be there in a minute.'

He turned to Kagome and gave her a worried look. Kagome returned a questioning one.

"Kagome, we need to go meet Sesshomaru." He told her.

"Ok." She said, quickly putting the last dish in the refrigerator. Inuyasha grabbed her hand and led her out the door. She yelled a bye to Sango who looked very worried and confused. "Don't worry Sango! I'll be back later!" Kagome assured her.

Once outside, Inuyasha was scanning their surroundings while rushing them to the car. He quickly opened the passenger door and helped Kagome in. He slammed the door shut and took a second to look around in a little more detail, then was in his seat before Kagome knew it.

The engine rawred to life. Inuyasha throw the car in gear and sped off down the street. Kagome turned to look at him.

"What's going on Inuyasha?" She asked. Inuyasha looked to her. Eyes wary.

"The council." He finally stated. Kagome's eyes widened as she gasped.
