I woke early this morning, early enough that it was still dark. I’m not entirely sure what made me wake up, but it had occurred to me that maybe there was something I had been closing my eyes to. You know, that feeling in the back of your head like you’re forgetting something important, but no matter how hard you try, you just can’t remember? Well, I guess that’s what it was like. I didn’t know what my mind was wanting to tell me. So I sat up, looked to my left at the figure lying there. Usually, watching her while she slept, listening to her breathe would wipe my thoughts clean. Not this time.
I pushed the covers away in silence, pausing only once when she gave a sigh in her sleep. What was she dreaming about, I wonder? Whatever it happened to be, by the smile she wore, I presumed that it wasn’t troubled. Yeah, she was still fast asleep, and I stood, fingering the beads around my neck as I left the room, eyes turned down. I didn’t have to wake her, but the ‘ill-at-ease’ knot that was bunching itself in the pit of my stomach was telling me otherwise. No, I wouldn’t wake her.
The sun was still hidden far behind the horizon. I sat outside waiting for it. If there was anything else to cleanse my mind, it would be the sun. Problem is, dawn was hours away. So all I had to do was sit and wait. Maybe, whatever the damn discord that was hassling my thoughts, would dredge itself up…
